Dielectric Characteristics of Polytetrafluoroethylene-based Composites for Microwave Substrates with Formation Pressure (고주파 기판용 PTFE 복합체 형성 압력에 따른 유전 특성)

  • PTFE composites for use of microwave substrate were fabricated by impregnation and heat treatment fabrication with glass fabric. This study shows dielectric properties such as dielectric constant and loss can be controlled by thickness of PTFE composite with change of pressure condition in heating press process. The dielectric constant of the PTFE composites has decreasing tendency as given higher pressure condition. The dielectric loss has similar result too. Especially, the case of the dielectric loss was affected by the condition of pressure at heating press and had the best performance under 3 MPa. In order to see the reason why thickness conditions make different, their microstructures were also observed.

Crystallization Mechanism in ZnO-P2O5 System Glass (ZnO-P$_2$O$_5$ 계 유리의 결정화 기구에 관한 연구)

  • ZnO-P2O5 system glass containing 45 to 60 mol% ZnO has been melted at 120$0^{\circ}C$ and crystallized through heat treatment. Each condition of crystallization was determined by measurement of dilatometric softening point and DTA. The principal crystalline phase was identified as zinc metaphosphate [Zn(PO3)2] in the glasses containing 45~55 mol% ZnO and zinc pyrophosphate (Zn2P2O7) in the sample of 60 mol% ZnO with X-ray diffraction patterns. The crystalline mechanism was investigated by XRD and SEM. As the results, the specimens containing 50~60% ZnO showed the existence of oriented structure due to one-dimensional crystal growth.

Etching Characteristics of Er-doped Sodium Borosilicate Glass Film Fabricated by Aerosol Flame Deposition Method (Aerosol Flame Deposition 법에 의해 제조된 Er 첨가 Soldium Borosilicate 유리박막의 식각 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The etching characteristics of Er-doped sodium borosilicate glass film for the planar optical waveguides were investigated using reactive ion etching. The etch rate decreased as the pressure in creased but increased as the RF power increased. The etch rate increased as the flow rate C2F gas and the amount of O2 addition increased but decreased over critical point (C2F6 7,5 accm O2 20%) The etch rate was 180${\AA}$/min under C2F6 7.5 sccm O2 20% RF power 270 W, pressure 150 mTorr. With this optimum etching condition and subsequent heat treatment at 975$^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes planar optical waveguides having improved sidewall roughness were fabricated successfully.

  • Indium tin oxide (ITO) layers are of considerable interest on account of the combination of properties they provide high electrical conductivity, high infrared reflection with high solar energy transmission, high transmission in the visible range. We are concerned about the variation of the spectral transmittances and sheet resistances as the thickness of SiO2-ZrO2 barrier layer and ITO layers and heat treating conditions are changed. Transmittances and reflectivities were studied by measuring UV-VIS-NIR-, FT-IR spectroscopy. ITO films are crack free, homogeneous and of polycrystalline cubic structure. The microstructure of good ITO films shows a narrow grain size distribution and mean value of 100 nm. The selectivity of absorbing properties is improved by increasing the thickness of ITO films. The increase of sheet resistance of ITO films are due to the increase in the reaction between films and glass substrate.

  • TiO2-SiO2 system anti-reflective(AR) film was prepared to decrease reflectance on the glass surface. The experiments were carried out as fellow, 1) preparation & hydrolysis of TiO2-SiO2 system sols. 2) glass dipping, and 3) drying & heat treatment. We investigated the refractive index and thickness of film with viscosity, zeta-potential of sol, sol concentration, withdrawal speed, drying and heat treatment condition. As a result, we prepared good qualitative Quarter-Half-Quarter type anti-reflective film that had minimum, 0.02% and average reflectance, 0.087% in the visible region.

  • A measurement method of the dielectric constant of materials whose standard sample is not prepared easily is proposed. The unprepared sample of the material is placed in a cavity, and the resonant frequency is measured. A commercial software simulates the same sample and the cavity leading to find the correct dielectric constant. The measured samples include a ceramic, a forced glass, and a powdered enamel. The measured dielectric constant of a ceramic, a forced glass, and a powdered enamel are 11-j0.0033(${\epsilon}_{\gamma}=11,\;tan{\delta}=0.0003$), 4.15-j0.053(${\epsilon}_{\gamma}=4.15,\;tan{\delta}=0.0128$), and 3.9-j0.042(${\epsilon}_{\gamma}=3.9,\;tan{\delta}=0.0108$) respectively.

  • An experimental study has been carried out to investigate the effect of growth rate V and time on secondary dendrite arm spacing of cristobalite dendrites in $14.6K_2O-85.4SiO_2$ glass by means of x-ray diffractormetry optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy The scanning lectron microscopy reveals a two-phase layer of dendritic crystals and interstitial melt which grow from the surface at a constant rate. Based on this experiment secondary arm spacing is proportional to V-0.24 and dendrite coarsening during isothermal holding shows that the secondary arm spacing increases with increasing heat-treatment time.

Electrochemical Approach in Plasma Display Panel Glass Melts doped with Sulfate and Sulfide II. Square Wave Voltammetry

  • Redox behavior was observed in alkali alkaline earth silicate PDP (Plasma Display Panel) glass melts doped with sulfate and sulfide by square wave voltammetry (SWV). According to voltammograms produced at a temperature range of 1100 to $1400^{\circ}C$ and frequency range of 5 to 1000 Hz, both melts showed the same behavior in which there is one reduction peak at low frequency but another peak at an increase of frequency. Based on the frequency dependence of the peak current, self diffusivity of $S^{4+}$ was determined. Based on the temperature dependence of the peak potential, standard enthalpy (${\Delta}H^0$) and standard entropy (${\Delta}S^0$) for the reduction of $S^{4+}$ to $S^0$ were calculated.

  • Author examined clinical procedure, clinical application and clinical failure of castable glass ceramic (Dicor) crowns which were made at the Dept. of Prosthodontics, Seoul National University Hospital during 19 months from Jan. 1988 to July, 1989(Observation period:19 months). The author obtained the following results. 1. A total of 86 crowns were constructed ; Most of them has been set on maxillary central incisors(53 cases, 62%):maxillary lateral incisors(20 cases, 23%):maxillary canines(6 cases, 7%):others(7 cases, 8%) 2. Dicer could be used as a lamiate veneer for discolored tooth. 3. During the examination period(1-19 months), there was no fracture case. 4. Dicer could be applied on the maxillary anterior tooth with minimal occlusal force.

Induced Second Order Optical Nonlinearity in Thermally Poled Silica Glasses (Poling된 실리카 유리의 2차비선형광학효과와 공간전하분극의 관계)

  • The cause of Scond Harmonic Generation (SHG) in thermally poled silica glass is suggested basedon the electrical and dielectric relaxation measurements. The absorption currents as functions of time were measured for various types of silica glasses and analyzed by the theory of Space Charge Polarization. Space charge polarization occurs when an ionic conducting material is subjected to dc electric field with blocking electrode. Thermal poling performed to induce SHG in silica glass is basically identical to the process generating space charge polarization. Hence it was found that gene-ration removal reproduction and temperature dependence of SHG in poled silica is directly related to those of space charge polarization. It turned out that the fundamental parameters governing the SHG in poled silica are charge carrier concentration and mobility. Based on the theory of space charge polarization and experimental results of electrical rela-xation the method to increase the intensity of SHG is proposed.
