In this study, a solvothermal reaction to prepare nanocrystalline titania was carried out using $TiCl_4$ and mixed solvents of alcohol and water. The effects of the type and the composition of alcohol on the crystal structure and agglomeration of final $TiO_2$ products were investigated. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) as well as scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In the solvothermal reaction using the n-butanol solutions with different volume ratios of n-butanol/water (100/0, 75/25, 50/50, 25/75, 0/100), the extent of agglomeration of obtained rutile $TiO_2$ was found to change with the volume ratio of n-butanol/water, and the n-butanol/water ratio of 75/25 revealed the best result for the preparation of well-dispersed nanocrystalline $TiO_2$ powders. The crystal phase of $TiO_2$ prepared through the solvothermal reaction changed with the type of alcohol in solvent (alcohol/water = 75/25). $TiO_2$ products obtained with the aqueous solutions of methanol, ethanol and isopropanol have an anatase phase, while that with n-butanol has a rutile phase. The results showed that, in the solvothermal reaction using both $TiCl_4$ as a starting material and the alcohol-water mixed solvents without any other additive, the enhancement of dispersion and control of crystal structure of $TiO_2$ products can be feasible by simply varying the composition and type of alcohol in the mixed solvents.

A novel microwave dielectric composite material for ultra-low temperature co-fired ceramics (ULTCC) with (1-x)BaWO4-xBaV2O6 (x=0.54~0.85) composition was prepared by firing a mixture of BaWO4 and BaV2O6. Shrinkage tests showed that the ceramic composite begins to densify at a temperature as low as 550℃ and can be sintered at 650℃ with 98% of relative density under the influence of BaV2O6. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that BaWO4 and BaV2O6 coexisted and no secondary phase was detected in the sintered bodies, implying good chemical compatibility between the two phases. Near-zero temperature coefficients of the resonant frequency (𝛕f) could be achieved by controlling the relative content of the two phases, due to their positive and negative 𝛕f values, respectively. With increasing BaV2O6 (x from 0.53 to 0.85), the 𝛕f value of the composites increased from -7.54 to 14.49 ppm/℃, εr increased from 10.08 to 11.17 and the quality factor (Q×f value) decreased from 47,661 to 37,131 GHz. The best microwave dielectric properties were obtained for x=0.6 samples with εr=10.4, Q×f=44,090 GHz, and 𝛕f=-2.38 ppm/℃. Chemical compatibility experiments showed the developed composites are compatible with aluminum electrode during co-firing process.
Magnetic and structural properties of $(CoFe_2O_4)_{1-x}(Y_3Fe_5O_{12})_x$ powders (0 $\leq$ x $\leq$ 1) grown by a conventional ceramic method were investigated using X-ray diffractormeter (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Mossbauer spectroscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The XRD results for the powders annealed at 120$0^{\circ}C$ indicated that no other peak was observed except for the ones from cobalt ferrite and the garnet powder. SEM micrographs indicated that cobalt ferrite and garnet powders were aggregated and completely formed together. It was hard to identify which part of the powders was the garnet or the cobalt ferrite. Mossbauer spectra for powders grown separately and mixed mechanically consisted of sub-spectra of cobalt ferrite and garnet, however, powders annealed together had an extra sub-spectrum, which was related with the interaction between iron ions at the grain surfaces of cobalt ferrite and the garnet: cobalt ferrite and garnet particles were located very closely. The value of the saturation magnetization measured by a VSM as a function of composition ratio agreed very well with the ones based on the theoretical calculation.

The polymer insulators have been extensively used as an alternate material of ceramic insulators. However, when they are used in practical conditions, there are many problems of decreasing performance and shortening lifetime due to the exposures of degradation factors applied from the outdoor situations. Accordingly, the analysis of polymer degradations has been getting influential too late as one of important subjects for improvements of safety and reliability. Heat, water treatments are arbitrary simulated for finding out the initiations and processes of surface degradation on the polymer surface. Especially, this study is focused on the chemical changes properties. From the analysis of hydrophilic and hydrophobic molecular structures, final modeling of surface degradation is accomplished. We checked the contact angle depending on heat and moisturized accelerated degradation and ran an XPS analysis to check the mechanism change of the surface of the PCB polymer composite. The surface that had a tendency to attract moisture showed a decrease in the contact angle and generated a large amount of carboxyl($-COO^*$) radicals. The hydrophobized surface showed an increase in the contact angle and had a stable chemical composition constituted of the breakaway of oxygen radicals and the formation of double bond by carburization.
CaO-based by-product, which consist of CaO, $SO_3$, $Al_2O_3$ and so on, has being used to raw materials of CaO compound. When It was applied to recycling water of remicon, concrete performance can be enhanced because hydration reaction of powder material is accelerated. In this study, activated-sludge, which was putted desulfurization gypsum of CaO-based in recycling water, was manufactured to verify effect of them, and then they was investigated by characteristics of cement matrix and mortar. As a results, they indicated reduction of setting time and high soundness in cement matrix, and acceleration of hydration reaction can be verified by XRD analysis. Also, it can be maintained good workability if water content by usage of desulfurization gypsum, which used for production of activated-sludge, was adjusted. In addition, it can be verified strength development by activated-sludge although cement content by usage of desulfurization gypsum was reduced.

This study is to compare the differences of bonding strength based on the Degassing temperatures and various opaque materials for Ni-Cr alloy specimen which does not contain beryllium(Be). Numerous comparison tests have been performed to measure the bonding strength by experimenting 3-point flexural rigidity tests in order to find out ways of stabilization and enhancement of bonding strength between metal and porcelain. AVOVA, surface component observation experiment by SAM/EDS, and Tukey's HSAD posteriori tests results are as follows: First, The bonding strength in all groups has exceeded the minimum (25MPa) of ISO9693 bonding strength regulation for dental mental-porcelain specimen. Second, The bonding strength of Group V1 was $32.37{\pm}1.91MPa$, $38.25{\pm}1.38MPa$ in Group V2, $46.43{\pm}2.14MPa$ in Group V3 and $47.21{\pm}1.72MPa$ Group V4. The difference has been statistically meaningful. Tukey's HSAD posteriori tests results have shown that the bonding strength in Group V4 was higher than that of Group V1. Third, the bonding strength between metal and porcelain without degassing process was higher than that of with degassing process, and the bonding strength of powder opaque was higher than that of paste opaque. Fourth, Group V4 has ranked the highest on the comparison table of metal and porcelain bonding strength.

This study suggested a new method for the solidification of molten salt waste generated from the electro-metallurgical process in the spent fuel treatment. Using binary material system, sodium silicate and phosphoric acid, metal chlorides were converted into metal phosphate in the micro-reaction module formed by SiO$_{2} particles. The volatile element in the reaction module would little vaporized below 1100$^{circ}$C After the gel product was mixed with borosilicate glass powder and thermally treated at 1000$^{circ}$C, li exists as Li$_{3}$PO$_4$ separated from glass phase and, Cs and Sr would be incorporated into an amorphous phase from XRD analysis. In case of the addition of ZrCl$_{4}$ to the binary system, the gel products were transformed into NZP structure considered as an prospective ceramic waste form after heat-treatment above 700 $^{circ}$C. From these results, the gel-route pretreatment can be considered as an effective approach to the solidincation of molten salt waste by the confirmed process or waste form and this also would be an alternative method on the ANL method using zeolites in USA by the confirmation of its chemical durability as an future work.
Cermic has been widely used because of its excellent esthetics and strength. The recently introduced castable ceramic system is regarded as the more esthetic and biocompatible restorative material. The purpose of this study was to compare the shear bond strength of Dicer & G-Cera porcelain laminate veneer according to the type of cement and surface treatment and to observe the surface of bonding failure with SEM. Total forty disks(3.5mm $diam.\times2.0mm$ thickness) were prepared. Forty extracted human maxillary central incisor teeth were stored in saline solution. Ten teeth were bonded to Dicer specimen with Dicer ZPC cement and ten teeth were bonded with Dicer resin cement. Ten silicoated G-Cera specimen and ten non-silicoated G-Cera specimen were bonded to teeth with G-Cera resin cement. Bonded units were mounted in a plastic tube with hard stone and stored in a humidor at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. Shear bond strength was measured by Instron Universal Testing Machine (Model 1125) and all the specimen were observed with SEM(JEOL, JSM-T2000)and modes of failure were recorded. The obtained results were as follows: 1. The mean shear bond strength of Dicer bonded with Dicer resin cement was 11.62 MPa and that bonded with Dicor ZPC cement was 0.88 MPa : Shear bond strength of Dicer bonded with Dicer resin cement was significantly increased(P<0.05). 2. The mean shear bond strength of silicoated G-Cera was 13.10 MPa and that of non silicoated G-Cera was 10.93 MPa : Shear bond strength of silicoated G-Cera was not significantly increased (P>0.05). 3. Shear bond strength of Dicer and G-Cera porcelain laminate veneer was not significantly different (P>0.05). 4. In observation of bond failure with SEM, Dicer bonded with Dicer ZPC cement exhibited adhesive failure. Dicer bonded with Dicer resin cement and silicoated and non silicoated G-Cera exhibited cohesive failure.

This study investigated the compressive fracture strength of Targis ceromer crown by the difference of occlusal thickness on a maxillary first premolar. Control group was a castable IPS-Empress all-ceramic crown with occlusal thickness of 1.5 mm constructed by layered technique. Experimental groups were Targis crowns having different occlusal thicknesses of 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm, respectively. The classification of Targis group is T10, T15, T20, T25 and T15N (for no-thermocycling and occlusal thickness of 1.5mm). Ten samples were tested per each group. Except occlusal thickness, all dimension of metal die is same with axial inclination of $10^{\circ}$and marginal width 0.8mm chamfer. All crowns were cemented with Panavia F and thermocycled 1,000 times between $5^{\circ}$ and $55^{\circ}$ water bath with 10 sec dwelling time and 10 sec resting time. The compressive fracture strength was measured by universal testing machine. The results were as follows : 1. Fracture strength was increased as the occlusal thickness increased : compressive fracture strength of Group T10, T15, T20, T25 was $66.65{\pm}4.88kgf$, $75.04{\pm}3.01kgf$, $87.07{\pm}7.06kgf$ and $105.03{\pm}10.56kgf$, respectively. 2. When comparing material, Targis crown had higher fracture strength than IPS-Empress crown : the mean compressive strength of group T15 was $75.04{\pm}3.01kgf$ and the value of group Control was $37.66{\pm}4.28kgf$. 3. Fracture strength was decreased by thermocycling : the compressive fracture strength of T15 was $75.04{\pm}3.01kgf$, which is lower than $90.69{\pm}6.88kgf$ of group T15N. 4. The fracture line of crowns began at the loading point and extended along long axis of tooth. IPS-Empress showed adhesive failure pattern whereas Targis had adhesive and cohesive failure. In the SEM view, stress was distributed radially from loading point and the crack line was more prominent on Targis crown.
The composition of Chinese ceramic shards has been the subject of analysis in Europe, beginning in the 18th century, and in China from the 1950s. Scientific studies of traditional Korean shards commenced in the United States and Germany in the 1980s, and studies within Korea began in the 1990s. From analysis of a large systematically collected dataset, the composition of porcelain produced during the Kory. dynasty, including 21 celadon and 10 whiteware groups, was characterized and compared with that of Chinese ceramics. The average composition of the body and glaze of several shards (usually three to five) from each group was determined, enabling comparisons between groups. The results show that the majority of groups were derived from mica-quartz porcelain stone, which was commonly used in Yuezhou, Jingdezhen, and other southern Chinese kilns. The composition of glazes includes clay and flux components; the latter were typically wood ash and limestone, initially as burnt but later as crushed forms. The earliest of the Kangjin glazes contained substantially less titanium oxide than did the Yuezhou glazes, which were typically formulated from body material and wood ash. The present study provides a comparative framework for the growing number of analytical investigations associated with excavations occurring in Korea.
