This paper describes the machining characteristics of the MoSi$_2$--based composites through the process of electric discharge drilling with various tubular electrodes. In addition to hardness characteristics, microstructures of Nb/MoSi$_2$laminate composites were evaluated from the variation of fabricating conditions, such as preparation temperature, applied pressure, and pressure holding time. MoSi$_2$-based composites have been developed in new materials for jet engines of supersonic-speed airplanes and gas turbines for high-temperature generators. These high performance engines may require new hard materials with high strength and high temperature-resistance. Also, with the exception of grinding, traditional machining methods are not applicable to these new materials. Electric discharge machining (EDM) is a thermal process that utilizes a spark discharge to melt a conductive material. The tool electrode is almost -unloaded, because there is n direct contact between the tool electrode and the work piece. By combining a non-conducting ceramic with more conducting ceramic, it was possible to raise the electrical conductivity. From experimental results, it was found that the lamination from Nb sheet and MoSi$_2$ powder was an excellent strategy to improve hardness characteristics of monolithic MoSi$_2$. However, interfacial reaction products, like (Nb, Mo)SiO$_2$and Nb$_2$Si$_3$formed at the interface of Nb/MoSi$_2$, and increased with fabricating temperature. MoSi$_2$composites, with which a hole drilling was not possible through the conventional machining process, enhanced the capacity of ED-drilling by adding MbSi$_2$, relative to that of SiC or ZrO$_2$reinforcements.

The mechanical properties of 2D ceramic composites fabricated bythe newly developed powder infiltration and subsequent multiple impregnation process were characterised by both 3-point flexure and tensile tests. These tests were performed with strain gauge and acoustic emission instrument. The woven fabric composites used for the test have the basic combinations of $Al_{2}$$O_{3}$ fabric/$Al_{2}$$O_{3}$ and SiC fabric (Tyranno)/SiC. Uniaxially aligned SiC fibre(Textron SCS-6)/SiC composites were also tested for comparison, The ultimate flexural strength and first-matrix cracking stress of SiC fabric/SiC composite with 73% of theoretical density were about 300 MPa and 77 MPa respectively. However, the ultimate tensile strengths of composite were generally one third of flexural strengths, and first-matrix cracking stress in a tension test was also much lower than the value obtained from flexure test. The lower mechanical properties measured by tension test were analysed quantitatively bythe differences in stressed volume using Weibull statistics. This showed that the ultimate strength and the firs-tmatrix cracking stress of woven laminate composites were mainly determined bythe gauge length of fibres and the stressed volume of matrix respectively. Incorporation of SiC whiskers into the matrix increased first-matrix cracking stress by increasing the matrix failure strain of composites.

The laser Powder Bed Fusion (PBF) system is currently recognized as a leading process. Due to the various materials employed such as thermoplastic, metal and ceramic composite powder, the application's use extends to machinery, automobiles, and medical devices. The PBF system's surface quality of prototypes and processing time are significantly affected by several parameters such as laser power, laser beam size, heat temperature and laminate thickness. In order to develop a more elaborate and rapid system, this study developed a new PBF system and sintering process. It contains a 3-axis dynamic focusing scanner system that maintains a uniform laser beam size throughout the system unlike the $f{\theta}$ lens. In this study, experiments were performed to evaluate the effects of various laser scanning parameters and fabricating parameters on the fusion process, in addition to fabricating various 3D objects using a PA-12 starting material.

Four kinds of silicon nitride composites with tri-laminate structure were prepared by stacking tapes with aligned ${\beta}-Si_3N_4$ whisker seeds. The composites were fabricated using a modified tape casting method for enhanced alignment of the whisker seeds. The relative densities of all four samples reached 99% at room temperature. The three-point flexural strengths of the samples according to the stacking sequences were measured at both room temperature and 1723 K. The high temperature strength of sample WWW was $457{\pm}14$ MPa. The fracture of sample WWW occurred mainly along the grain boundary. The room temperature strengths of samples OOO, OWO, WOW, and WWW were $430{\pm}32$ MPa, $470{\pm}19$ MPa, $700{\pm}14$MPa, and $940{\pm}14$ MPa, respectively.

The available methods for veneer evaluation are limited to clinical and radiographic examinations, which may not allow the appropriate identification of failure. In this report, we demonstrate the use of optical coherence tomography (OCT) as a noninvasive diagnostic and follow-up method to evaluate gingival recovery and the adhesive interface in aesthetic oral rehabilitation involving periodontal plastic surgery and ceramic laminate veneers. OCT was efficient for evaluating both soft and hard tissues, as well as the quality of the adhesive interface. In conclusion, OCT was found to be a promising approach for the professional evaluation of aesthetic oral rehabilitation, as it was capable of generating images that enabled the analysis of gingival recovery and the adhesive interface.
The facillities for Kimchi preservation were investigated in order to develop the taste, flavor and commercial quality of Kimchi during fermentation. Four kinds of facillities used for this experiment were PP(Polypropylene). PSC(Polypropylene+ceramic)and PPP was selected newly and laminated of three layers with PETG (Polyester G), PS (Polystyrene) and PETG. The change of total number of lactic acid Bacteria, pH, acidity, color, gas contents and free internal volume of package were measured for the Kimchi packaged by 4 facillities during 6 days fermentation at 15$^{\circ}C$. The total No. of lactic acid Bacteria within the Kimchi in the PPP facillity was more and remained longer time (120 hrs.) than other Kimchi in the PP, PS and PPC facillities. Also the pH of all Kimchi were decreased to pH 4 within 72 hrs. and the pH of Kimchi in the PPP facillity was kept as pH 4 for 120 hrs., so that was shown to be decreased more dully than others. In case of fimchi in the PPP facillity, the color was retained better, CO$_2$ contents was lower similar to PPC facillity, and swelling degree of free internal volume was higher than others. By the sensory evaluation, the Kimchi in the PPP facillity represented as better than others for color, flavor, texture and total preferences until 48 hrs. fermentation. And the PPP facillity is transparent, so these will be selected and confirmed more easily, also PPP facillity is so hard to endure the swelling pressure of internal gas. Therefore it is thought that the PPP facillity used as Kimchi package will be desirable for better taste, flavor, and commercial quality.
An increasing demand for esthetic restorations has led to the development of new ceramic systems. In-Ceram, a glass-infiltrated alumina ceramic has three to few times greater flexural strength than other ceramic glass material. Because of its high strength, In-Ceram has been suggested as inlay, crown, laminate veneer and core material for resin bonded fixed partial dentures. This clinical application requires a stable resin bond to In-Ceram core. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength between In-Ceram core and resin cements according to various surface treatments and storage conditions. The surface of each In-Ceram core sample was subjected to one of the following treatments and then bonded to Panavia 21 or Variolink II resin cement. ; (1) sandblasting with $110{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide powder, (2) sandblasting and silanization, (3) sandblasting and Siloc treatment, (4) sandblasting and Targis link application. Each of eight bonding groups was tested in shear bond strengths after the following storage times and thermocycling. ; A) 24 hours storage in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$, B) 5 weeks storage in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ C) 5 weeks storage in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ and thermocycled 2,000 thormocycling for every 10 days(totally 10,000 thermocycting) in $5^{\circ}C-55^{\circ}C$ bath. The bond failure modes were observed with scanning electron microscope(SEM). The results were as fellows : 1 The shear bond strengths of sandblasting group were significantly lesser than the other groups after 24 hours water storage. No significant difference of bonding strengths was found between storage time conditions(24 hours and 5 weeks). The shear bond strengths showed a tendency to decrease in Variolink II bonding groups and to increase in Panavia 21 bonding groups. 3. After thermocycling, the shear bond strengths of all groups were significantly decreased(p<0.01) and Targis link group exhibited significantly greater strengths than the other groups(p<0.05). 4. Panavia 21 bonding groups exhibited significantly greater bonding strengths in sandblasting group(p<0.01) and silane group(p<0.05) than Variolink II bonding groups. 5. In observation of bond failure modes, Targis link group showed cohesive failure in resin part and silane group and Siloc group showed complex failure and sandblasting group showed adhesive failure between In-Ceram and resin.

Statement of problem. Adhesives in dentistry playa major role in the success of restorative treatments. In the treatment of all ceramic restoration it is needed to find the adequate bond strength between enamel and dentin. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to evaluate shear bond strength of resin cement bonded to extracted human uncut enamel, cut enamel, and dentin in vitro. Material and methods. Ten freshly extracted anterior teeth without any previous restorative treatments were chosen. The extracted teeth were embedded in PMMA cold acrylic in the shape of a cylinder, 25 mm in diameter by 25 mm in height. The bonding system used was as follow: Uni-Etch (32% phosphoric acid), One-Step adhesive, Duolink resin cement. The specimens were acid etched and rinsed with water. Two layers of One-Step adhesive were coated with a disposable brush on the uncut enamel. VIP curing light at $500mV/cm^2$ was used to cure the adhesive. For cut enamel shear bond test, the specimen used for uncut enamel was further reduced approximately $0.3{\sim}0.5mm$ using a laminate preparation diamond bur (0.3 mm in depth). The specimens were subsequently treated with 320-grit SiC paper followed by 600-grit SiC paper and cleaned with distilled water. The bonding procedure on the cut enamel was same as uncut enamel bonding procedure. For dentin bonding test, the specimen used for cut enamel was further reduced approximately $0.5mm{\sim}1.0mm$ using a laminate preparation diamond bur (0.5 mm in depth of diamond cutting). The amount of reduction was evaluated with the silicone mold. The specimens were subsequently treated with 320-grit SiC paper followed by 600-grit silicon carbon paper and cleaned in distilled water. The bonding procedure on the dentin was same as uncut enamel bonding procedure. All samples were mounted and secured on the Ultradent shear bond test sample holder, and Ultradent restricted shear bond testing device was used with Universal Instron machine until fracture. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) test was performed comparing the result at P<0.05. Multiple comparison (Tukey) was used to compare each groups. Result. The result showed that the mean value in shear bond strength of resin cement bonded to uncut enamel, cut enamel and dentin were 27.04 Mpa, 30.25 Mpa and 26.39 Mpa with respect. Conclusion. Within the limitation of this study, the mean value of the shear bond strength of cut enamel was higher than those of uncut enamel or dentin. However there existed no statistical differences between three different human dentition substrates due to increased adhesive characteristics.
Statement of problem: The degree of light attenuation at the time of cementation of the PLV restoration depends on characteristics such as thickness, opacity and shade of the restorations, which interfere with light transmittance and, as a result, may decrease the total energy reaching the luting cement. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the degree of conversion of light-cured resin cements measuring by FT-IR in regard to different thickness, light devices and curing time. Material and methods: In the control group, a clear slide glass (1.0 mm) was positioned between the light cured resin cement and light source. The specimens of ceramics were made with IPS Empress Esthetic. The ceramics were fabricated with varying thicknesses-0.5, 1.0, 1.5 mm with shade ETC1. Rely $X^{TM}$ Veneer with shade A3, light-cured resin cement, was used. Light-activation was conducted through the ceramic using a quartz tungsten halogen curing unit, a light emitting diode curing unit and a plasma arc curing unit. The degree of conversion of the light-cured resin cement was evaluated using FT-IR and OMNIC. One-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD test were used for statistical analysis ($\alpha$< .05). Results: The degree of conversion (DC) of photopolymerization using QTH and LED was higher than results of using PAC in the control group. After polymerization using QTH and LED, the DC results from the different ceramic thickness- 0.5 mm, 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm- did not show a significant difference when compared with those of control group. However, the DC for polymerization using PAC in the 1.5mm ceramic group showed significantly lower DC than those of the control group and 0.5 mm ceramic group (P<.05). At 80s and 160s, the DC of light-cured resin cement beneath 1.0 mm ceramic using LED was significantly higher than at 20s (P<.05). Conclusion: Within the limitation of this study, when adhering PLV to porcelain with a thickness between 0.5-1.5 mm, the use of PAC curing units were not considered however, light cured resin cements were effective when cured for over 40 seconds with QTH or LED curing units. Also, when curing the light cured resin cements with LED, the degree of polymerization was not proportional with the curing time. Curing exceeding a certain curing time, did not significantly affect the degree of polymerization.
