Depth-hybrid speeded-up robust features (DH-SURF) for real-time RGB-D SLAM

  • This paper presents a novel feature detection algorithm called depth-hybrid speeded-up robust features (DH-SURF) augmented by depth information in the speeded-up robust features (SURF) algorithm. In the keypoint detection part of classical SURF, the standard deviation of the Gaussian kernel is varied for its scale-invariance property, resulting in increased computational complexity. We propose a keypoint detection method with less variation of the standard deviation by using depth data from a red-green-blue depth (RGB-D) sensor. Our approach maintains a scale-invariance property while reducing computation time. An RGB-D simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) system uses a feature extraction method and depth data concurrently; thus, the system is well-suited for showing the performance of the DH-SURF method. DH-SURF was implemented on a central processing unit (CPU) and a graphics processing unit (GPU), respectively, and was validated through the real-time RGB-D SLAM.

Real-time Ray-tracing Chip Architecture

  • In this paper, we describe the world's first real-time ray-tracing chip architecture. Ray-tracing technology generates high-quality 3D graphics images better than current rasterization technology by providing four essential light effects: shadow, reflection, refraction and transmission. The real-time ray-tracing chip named RayChip includes a real-time ray-tracing graphics processing unit and an accelerating tree-building unit. An ARM Ltd. central processing unit (CPU) and other peripherals are also included to support all processes of 3D graphics applications. Using the accelerating tree-building unit named RayTree to minimize the CPU load, the chip uses a low-end CPU and decreases both silicon area and power consumption. The evaluation results with RayChip show appropriate performance to support real-time ray tracing in high-definition (HD) resolution, while the rendered images are scaled to full HD resolution. The chip also integrates the Linux operating system and the familiar OpenGL for Embedded Systems application programming interface for easy application development.

  • This study is concerned with the accuracy and the patterns when different methods was used in interpolation task. Although 3 methods employed the same modality for input (visual) and for output (manual responding), they differed in central processing, which method 1 is relatively more tendency of verbal processing, method 2 is realtively more tendency of spatial processing and method 3 needed a number of switching code (verbal/spatial) performing task. Split-plot design was adopted, which whole plot consisted of methods (3), orientations (horizon, vertical), base-line sizes (300, 500, 700 pixels) and split plot consisted of target locations (1-99). The results showed the anchor effect and the range effect. Method 2, method 3 and method 1 that order was better accuracy. ANOVA showed that the accuracy was significantly influenced by the method, the location of target, and its interactions ($method{\times}location$, $size{\times}location$). Analysis of error data, response time and frequency of under, just, over estimate indicated that a systematic error pattern was made in task and methods changed not only the performance but also the pattern. The results provided support for the importance of the multiple resources theory in accounting for S-C-R compatibility and task performance. They are discussed in terms of multiple resources theory and guidelines for system design is suggested by the S-C-R compatibility.

  • 스타형의 분산 컴퓨터 시스템에서는 중앙노드의 처리능력이 주변노드들의 처리 능 력에 비해 클 수가 있고 또 각 노드의 작업도착률은 서로 다를 수 있다. 따라서 작업 전송을 위한 송신자 기준과 수신자 기준의 선택에 따라 부하분산의 성능은 크게 달라 진다. 하지만 이종의 분산 컴퓨터 시스템에서 최적 송신자 및 수신자 기준의 설정은 매우 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 동적부하분산을 위하여 고정 임계값 대신에 노드의 평균 응답시간이나 작업의 기대응답시간과 같은 동적 기준을 사용하는 효율적인 위치 결정 부하 분산 정책을 제안한다.

  • 심전도 감시장치(electro-cardiography monitoring system)에 대한 연구는 국내외적으로 활발하게 이루어지고 있으나, 국내의 경우 환자 상태를 감시하는데 있어 중요한 요소인 호흡(respiration)에 관한 연구는 다소 미흡한 민이 있었다. 이번 연구는 환자의 상태를 감시하는데 있어 심전도, 혈압(brood pressure), 체온(temperature)과 더불어 중요한 요소로 여겨지는 호흡에 대한 감시장치로, 호흡 시 신체의 임피던스 변화를 이용하여 시스템을 구현함으로써, 심전도 측정과 병행하여 사용할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 특히, 임피던스를 이용한 환자감시장치의 경우 중추신경 마비 둥의 원인에 의한 무호흡 감지에 효과적으로 응급실 등에서 유용하게 사용된다. 구현된 시스템은 아날로그 부와 디지털 부의 잡음간섭 린 환자의 안전을 도모하기 위해 회로를 전기적으로 분리하여 설계하였다. 아날로그 부의 구성은 고주파 신호를 발생하는 정현파 발생부, 반송파로부터 인체의 임피던스 변화성분을 추출하고 증폭하는 증폭부, 기저대역으로 변환하기 위한 복조 및 아날로그 필터부로 구성되어 있다. 디지털 부는 아날로그-디지탈 변환기 및 디지털 필터, 생체정보 추출부로 구성되어있다. 본 연구에서 구현된 시스템은 심전도 감시장치의 전극을 공용으로 사용할 수 있도록 구성되었으며, 호흡 감시장치에 대한 기반기술 획득을 통해 다기능환자감시장치의 개발에 바로 응용 될 수 있다.

Simple Spectral Calibration Method and Its Application Using an Index Array for Swept Source Optical Coherence Tomography

  • In this study, we report an effective k-domain linearization method with a pre-calibrated indexed look-up table. The method minimizes k-domain nonlinear characteristics of a swept source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) system by using two arrays, a sample position shift index and an intensity compensation array. Two arrays are generated from an interference pattern acquired by connecting a Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) and an optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) to the system. At real time imaging, the sample position is modified by location movement and intensity compensation with two arrays for linearity of wavenumber. As a result of evaluating point spread functions (PSFs), the signal to noise ratio (SNR) is increased by 9.7 dB. When applied to infrared (IR) sensing card imaging, the SNR is increased by 1.29 dB and the contrast noise ratio (CNR) value is increased by 1.44. The time required for the linearization and intensity compensation is 30 ms for a multi thread method using a central processing unit (CPU) compared to 0.8 ms for compute unified device architecture (CUDA) processing using a graphics processing unit (GPU). We verified that our linearization method is appropriate for applying real time imaging of SS-OCT.

Chemical compositions and antioxidant characteristics of Korean maize hybrids in different cropping seasons

  • The climate change impact has facilitated double cropping system on maize production in Korea. The objectives of this study were to investigate the chemical composition changes according to the sowing dates on double cropping in 8 dent type, 2 intermediate type, and 4 semiflint type of Korean maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids and evaluate its antioxidant characteristics. Fourteen maize hybrids were sown on April 5 and July 5 of 2015. The average crude protein contents in dent and semiflint type maize sown on April 5 were higher than those sown on July 5 (p<0.05). There was no significant difference in average of total amino acid contents in all types of maize according to the sowing dates. Major amino acid in maize hybrids were glutamic acid followed by proline, alanine, and aspartic acid, which has no significant difference according to the sowing dates. The average crude fat contents in semiflint and intermediate type maize sown on April 5 were higher than those sown on July 5 (p<0.05). The average composition of saturated fatty acid in dent type maize sown on April 5 was higher than those sown on July 5. However, the average unsaturated fatty acid composition showed the opposite result (p<0.05). Fatty acids were mainly composed of linoleic acid (C18:2) and oleic acid (C18:1) in maize hybrids. The average oleic acid percentage of dent and semiflint type maize sown on April 5 were higher than those sown on July 5, while the average linoleic acid was lower. The average amylose content of all types of maize sown on April 5 was higher than those sown on July 5. On the other hands, the average carotenoid contents had the opposite result (p<0.05). There were no significant differences in total average of polyphenol contents and DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities in all types of maize based on the sowing date. Total polyphenol contents had positive correlation with DPPH (r=0.33, p<0.01) and ABTS (r=0.50, p<0.0001) radical scavenging activities. In conclusion, the kernel composition affects maize quality. These data are useful for maize breeding program and cultivation and food processing industry.

  • 환경선량변동을 실시간으로 모니터링하기 위해서 원자력연구소 부지 주변에 온라인 감시시스템이 운영중인데, 현장에 설치된 전리함 검출기에 의해서 측정된 자료는 모뎀을 통해 무선전송방식으로 중앙제어실에 실시간으로 저장된다. 무선 송수신 방식은 전송, 처리 및 저장에 경제적이고 효과적이지만 통신 장애시 현장감시장치에 저장된 백업데이터를 가져오지 못해서 결국 데이터가 손실될 우려가 있다 물론 버퍼에 저장된 선량값을 디스켓 및 다른 off-line으로 복원이 가능하지만 이럴 경우 온라인으로 운영되는 시스템에 과거데이터를 처리해야 하므로 복잡하고 실시간으로 처리 할 수가 없다. 본 연구에서는 기존 감시시스템 중 신호처리 부분과 운영 소프트웨어를 새롭게 개발해서, 현장에 설치된 감시기와 중앙처리 장치의 시각을 매일 자동으로 동기화시키고 이를 이용해서 현장감시장치에 저장된 백업데이터를 자동으로 복원시켰다. 새로 개발된 방식을 이용할 경우 34시간이내에서 통신장애로 수신하지 못한 백업데이터를 자동으로 복원할 수 있고, 복원된 데이터를 현재시각의 데이터와 함께 실시간으로 디스플레이 할 수 있게 하였다.

  • This study of bimodal integration management system in conjunction with the tram and the tram cars bimodal integrated management system that occupies a part of the system to perform its role as a bimodal tram vehicle configuration, a device for the vehicle's infrastructure ryureul development and it is aimed to build on the vehicle. Bimodal tram vehicle infrastructure systems, internal and external information of the larger vehicles, and vehicles used to collect information for its own part and the integrated operations management center, or providing partial information from the station and collect/provide for the transfer of information to the communication part consists In this study, the core of these devices, the configuration of the vehicle infrastructure systems for the overall management and control of vehicles operating a computer's central processing device, vehicle infrastructure systems that make it manages and stores all jangchiryu Integrated Operations Management Center is reporting. In addition, seamless integration with operational management center for interactive communication in a vehicle mounted communications devices to maintain the best condition to manage. Current general traffic management system in a similar terminal device being used, but bimodal tram vehicles operating the computer of the vehicle operates the infrastructure to configure the devices around the one to configure the system in terms of step enhanced the active type, the operating terminal unit of inter active type. In this study, considering the future alignment of the accounting fee system, the expansion of the system reliability and stability around the activities that are underway.

자율 주행 트랙터 시스템의 성능 향상을 위한 CAN 기반의 조향제어시스템 개발 (Development of Steering Control System based on CAN for Autonomous Tractor System)

  • A steering control system based on CAN(Controller Area Network) for autonomous tractor was developed to reduce duty of a central processing computer and to improve performance of steering control in terms of reduced control interval and error. The steering control system consisted of a SCU (Steering Control Unit), an EHPS system, and a potentiometer. The SCU consisted of an MCU (Micro Controller unit), an A/D converter, and a DC-DC converter, and a PID controller was used to control steering angle. The steering control system was communicated with the computer by CAN-bus. Each actuator and implement was connected to a multi-function board interfacing with the computer through a USB cable. Without CAN, control interval of the autonomous tractor was 1.5 seconds. When the CAN-based steering control system was combined with the autonomous tractor, however, control interval of the integrated system was reduced to those less than 0.05 seconds. When the autonomous tractor was operated with 1.5-s and 0.05-s control cycles at a 0.63-m/s travelling speed, the trajectories were close to straight lines for both of the control cycles. For a 1.34-m/s traveling speed, tractor trajectory was close to sine wave with a 1.5-s control cycle, but was straight line with a 0.05-s control cycle.
