Purpose: Ischial region is common site of pressure sore as well as greater trochanteric area. In general, ischial pressure sore associated with a large subcutaneous bursa often requires radical surgical treatment. The authors performed sclerotherapy using absolute ethanol which was considered as an alternative in treating recurrent ischial pressure sore. Methods: From may 2005 to February 2006, 11 ischial pressure sore patients were treated sclerotherapy using absolute ethanol. The authors performed sclerotherapy using absolute ethanol in 11 patients in whom the ischial sore has recurred despite of multiple radical surgical treatment. The patients' original disorders were spinal cord injury in 9 patients, cerebral palsy in 1 patient and giant cell tumor in thoracic vertebrae 1 patient. Results: Recurrence of pressure sore was not found in any patient during the follow-up period. The swap of the bursa taken before the surgery was germ cultured and compared with the discharge from an end of the inserted drain tube. The germ cultured results after the surgery were tested negative in all patients. Conclusion: This method involves causing the bursa to become scarred and closing it up by sterilizing, fixing, and denaturing by the pharmacologic effect of absolute ethanol instead of surgical excision of the bursa. We felt that aforementioned treatment modality may be considered as an alternative in treating recurrent ischial pressure sore.
Large cylindrical floating-roof tanks, constructed as oil containers, are usually distributed regularly in open area and easily exposed to severe wind loads. However, wind pressures around these grouped squat tanks appear to have not been clearly given in design codes or thoroughly studied in existing researches. This paper conducts a detailed investigation on wind loads on the external wall of a four-tank group in square arrangement. To achieve that, wind tunnel tests are carried out on both empty and full tank groups, considering various wind angles and spacing. Results show that 3 regions in elevation can be identified on the tank shell according to the circumferential wind pressure distribution. The upper 2 regions cover a relatively small portion of the shell where excessive negative pressures are spotted, setting an alarm to the design of the top angle and stiffening rings. By comparing results on grouped tanks to those on an isolated tank, grouping effects concerning wind angle, tank position in group and spacing are discussed. Deviations on pressure distributions that will compromise structural safety are outlined, including the increase of negative pressures, the shift of maximum pressure locations as well as the change of positive pressure range. And, several potentially unfavourable wind pressure distributions are selected for further analyses.

The purpose of this study was to analysis the effect of form and hardness of outsoles on the motion of the lower extremity joints and on foot pressure during gait. The subjects were 15 women(mean age, $48.5{\pm}2.4$ years), who had no serious musculoskeletal, coordination, balance or joint/ligament problems within 1 year prior to the study. The pelvic tilt, joint angles at the lower extremities and the vertical ground reaction force(GRF) were compared during gait with 3 types of shoes (A, B, C) by using one-way repeated ANOVA(p<.05). During gait, the peak tilt angle and the range of motion(ROM) of the ankle and knee joints were found to be significantly different among the 3 types of shoes. The type C shoes showed a significantly lower mean second maximum vertical GRF than types A and B. The curved outsoles of type C shoes, which had a form and hardness different from those of A and B, was designed strategically for walking shoes to provide stability to the Additionally, type C induced the dispersion of eccentric pressure and made the center of pressure roll over to the center line of the foot.

This work reports the theoretical and experimental investigations of capillary bust valves to regulate liquid flow in microchannels. The theoretical analysis uses the Young-Laplace equation and geometrical considerations to predict the pressure at the edge of the valve opening. Numerical simulations are employed to calculate the meniscus shape evolution while the interface is pinned at the valve edge. Microchannels and valves are fabricated using soft lithography. A wafer-rotating system, which can adjust the driving pressure by rotational speed, induces a liquid flow. Experimentally measured valve-bursting pressure agrees with theoretical predictions.

Objective : Several studies have reported the association between posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and hypertension (HTN). The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of PTSD symptoms on blood pressure. Methods : Korean veterans of the Vietnam War with (n=62) or without PTSD (n=87) participated in this study. The clinician administered PTSD scale (CAPS) and alcohol use disorder identification test (AUDIT) were applied. Blood pressure, pulse rate, risk factors of HTN and demographic data of the subjects were collected. Effects of potential explanatory variables on HTN were analyzed with logistic regression. Results : Diastolic blood pressure was significantly higher in PTSD group (p=0.015). However, PTSD subjects showed significantly lower pulse rate than non-PTSD subjects (p=0.004). Logistic regression analysis showed that avoidance symptom might be a predictor for hypertension (OR=1.065, p=0.030). Conclusion : These results suggest that PTSD, especially avoidance symptom, might be a risk factor on HTN in the elderly with PTSD. Further studies are needed to evaluate the change of blood pressure according to the clinical improvement of PTSD.
Determining lateral earth pressure coefficient (EPC) K is a classic problem in geotechnical engineering. It is a key parameter for estimating the stresses in backfilled openings. For backfilled openings with rigid and immobile walls, some suggested using the Jaky's at-rest earth pressure coefficient K0 while other suggested taking the Rankine's active earth pressure coefficient Ka. A single value was proposed for the entire backfilled opening. To better understand the distributions of stresses and K in a backfilled opening, a series of laboratory tests have been conducted. The horizontal and vertical normal stresses at the center and near the wall of the opening were measured. The values of K at the center and near the wall were then calculated with the measured horizontal and vertical normal stresses. The results show that the values of K are close to Ka at the center and close to K0 near the wall. Furthermore, the experimental results show that the horizontal stress is almost the same at the center and near the wall, indicating a uniform distribution from the center to the wall. It can be estimated by analytical solutions using either Ka or K0. The vertical stress is higher near the center than near the wall. Its analytical estimation can only be done by using Ka at the center and K0 near the wall. Finally, the test results were used to calibrate a numerical model of FLAC2D, which was then used to analyze the influence of column size on the stresses and K in the backfilled opening.

Three anode configurations of six-jet, cone-jet and cylindrical-jet are tested for their analytical performance under power mode operation. The effect of pressure, power and gas flow rate on atomic absorption signals have been studied. The increase of atomic absorption signal of sample element is observed at a fixed pressure in all configurations as the gas flow rate increase up to 300-600 seem, and as the power dissipated in the glow discharge cell increase. The lower the pressure is in the glow discharge cell at a fixed discharge power and argon flow rate, the greater the absorbance of sample element is. The optimum conditions are taken from these data and a calibration curve of Cu in low-alloy steel sample is obtained. In this calibration curve, six-jet configuration shows the best analytical results varies as the sample element.

Recently mass spectrometry and separation methods such as liquid chromatography have become major tools in the field of proteomics. In this report, we describe in detail our efforts to develop ultra-high pressure capillary reverse-phase liquid chromatography (cRPLC) and its online coupling to a mass spectrometer by a nanoelectrospray (nanoESI) interface. The RPLC system is constructed in house to deliver LC solvents at the pressure up to 20,000 psig, which is four times higher than conventional RPLC systems. The high operation pressure allows the efficient use of packed micro-capillary columns (50, 75 and 150 ${\mu}$m i.d., up to 1.5 m long). We will discuss the effect of column diameter on the sensitivity of cRPLC/MS/MS experiments and the utility of the developed technique for proteome analysis by its application in the analysis of proteome samples having different levels of complexity.

Nano structure $Bi_2Te_3$ films were deposited on (100) GaAs substrates using a modified MOCVD system and the effect of growth parameters on the structural properties were investigated. Different from conventional MOCVD systems, our reactor consist of pressure control unit and two heating zones ; one for formation of nano-sized particles and the other for the growth of nano particles on substrates. By using this instrument we successfully grow $Bi_2Te_3$ films with nano-grain size. The film grown at high reactor pressure has large grain size. On the contrast, the grain size decreases with a decrease in pressure of the reactor. Here, we introduce new growth methods of nano-grain structured $Bi_2Te_3$ films for high thermoelectric figure of merit.

The failure of hydraulic hose assemblies is caused by the impulse pressure and repetitive motions of bending and stretching (flexing) used at high pressure pipe in the form of bursting Since it takes long time to observe the bursting for life analysis, we can reduce test time by the method of applying the Knockdown stress which is equivalent to 70% of initial bursting pressure on rubber hose assemblies with maintaining the failure mode equally In this study, after scale parameter, shape parameter, and acceleration factor by preforming the impulse pressure test until the hose bursts, and finally analyzed the accelerated life.
