Drying shrinkage cracking which may be caused by the relatively large specific surface IS a matter of grave concern for latex modified concrete(LMC) overlay and rapid-setting cement latex modified concrete(RSLMC) overlay. LMC and RSLMC were studied for field applications very actively in terms of strength and durability in Korea. However, there were no considerations in drying shrinkage. Therefore, the purpose of this dissertation was to study the drying shrinkage properties of LMC and RSLMC with the main experimental variables such as cement types(ordinary portland cement, rapid setting cement), water-cement ratios and curing days at a same controlled environment of 60% of relative humidity and $20^{\circ}C$ of temperature The drying shrinkage for specimens was measured with a digital dial gauge of Demec. The test results showed that the drying shrinkage of LMC and RSLMC were considerably lower with low water-cement ratio, respectively This might be attributed to the interlocking of hydrated cement and aggregates by a film of latex particles, water retention due to hydrophobic, and colloidal properties of the latexes resulting in reduced water evaporation.
The state of the art of the 2-stage swirl calciner is to make 2-stage counter gas flow in a calciner with cooler hot air. Gas flow in the calciner increases retention time of raw mix particles. Simple structure of the 2-stage swirl calciner operated optimally the rotary cement kiln. In this study, in order to decide the entrance type of the cooler air of the optimal calciner model, an entrance cooler air velocity, the input points of raw mix were analyzed in many aspects with cold model experiment and computational fluidized dynamic simulation. It was found that the entrance type of cooler air fully splite 2-stage for the optimal condition of the cold model calciner. The operation conditions were that the input feeding, the cooler air velocity and the air velocity of throat were 0.33kg/$\textrm m$3$, 15m/s and 20m/s respectively. The performance of 150 t/d the pilot plant connected with the kiln rising duct was that volume capacity of the calciner is over 430 kg/$\textrm m$3$-h, decarbonation rate of raw mix apparently 90%, heat consumption 950 kcal/kg-cli and retention time of raw mix 2.4 sec. Its the best operating condition is cooler air velocity 18m/s, the gas velocity of throat 25m/s, feeding rate of raw mix 10t/h. The operating experience of the pilot plant confirmed the success of scale up for over 3000 t-cli/d.
Concrete suffers strength loss when subjected to elevated temperatures during an accidental event such as fire. The loss in strength of concrete is mainly attributed to decomposition of C-S-H gel and release of chemically bound water, which begins when the temperature exceeds $500^{\circ}C$. But it is unclear about how much strength loss occurs in different stages of heating, retention and cooling regimes. This work is carried out to separate the total strength loss into losses during different stages of heating, retention and cooling. Tests were carried out on both Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) based concrete and Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS) blended concrete for $200^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$ with a retention period of 1 hour for each of these temperature levels. Furnace cooling was adopted throughout the experiment. This study reports strength loss contribution during heating, retention and cooling regimes for both OPC based and GGBFS based concretes.
An in vitro study was conducted to compare the bond strength of cements between Verabond coping and various cores. Fifty-four idential cores simulating maxillary central incisor prepared for PFM crowns were made. Eighteen samples were made with 20K cast gold, eighteen with Verabond, and eighteen with Adaptic. Samples were randomly divided into three groups, each consisting of six 20K cast gold, six verabond, and six Adaptic samples. The first group was cemented with zinc phosphate cement, the second group with poly-carboxylate cement, and the third group with glass ionomer cement. Constant finger pressure was applied for cementation. The sample were then stored at $37^{\circ}C$ in distilled water bath for 24 hours. The tensile strength test was performed on an Instron Universal test machine with crosshead speed of 0.05cm/min and the results compared statistically. Results of the study showed that: 1. A significant difference of bond strength was observed with different types of dental cements and core materials. 2. With gold core, zinc phosphate cement was stronger than both the polycarboxylate cement and glass ionomer cement, which did not differ in bond strength. 3. With base-metal core, zinc phosphate cement showed the highest bond strength and was followed by polycarboxylate cement and glass ionomer cement. 4. With composite resin core, zinc phosphate cement showed the highest bond strength and was followed by glass ionomer cement and polycarboxylate cement. 5. The base-metal core (Verabond core) privided the highest retention of all core materials.
Existing numerical models for strain-hardening cement-based composites (SHCC) are short of providing sufficiently accurate solutions to the failure patterns of coupling beams of different designs. The objective of this study is to develop an effective model that is capable of simulating the nonlinear behavior of SHCC coupling beams subjected to cyclic loading. The beam model proposed in this study is a macro-scale plane stress model. The effects of cracks on the macro-scale behavior of SHCC coupling beams are smeared in an anisotropic model. In particular, the influence of the defined crack orientations on the simulation accuracy is explored. Extensive experimental data from coupling beams with different failure patterns are employed to evaluate the validity of the proposed SHCC coupling beam models. The results show that the use of the suggested shear stiffness retention factor for damaged SHCC coupling beams is able to effectively enhance the simulation accuracy, especially for shear-critical SHCC coupling beams. In addition, the definition of crack orientation for damaged coupling beams is found to be a critical factor influencing the simulation accuracy.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of various cements on the retention of casting crown and the cement film thickness. To evaluate the retention of crown, thirty maxillary premolars were used and prepared to largely same dimension. According to the routine method, Non-precious metal crowns were made. The teeth and the metal crowns were divided into three groups and cemented under 5kg static pressure. Group I was composed of 10 teeth and 10 metal crowns and was cemented with zinc phohsphste cement. Group II was composed of 10 teeth and 10 metal crowns and was cemented with Panavia-EX cement. Group III was composed of 10 teeth and 10 metal crowns and was cemented with All-Bond & composite resin cement. After 5 days, the cemented specimens were mounted and the failure loads were measured by an Instron Universal Testing Machine. To evaluate the cement film thickness. 5 metal teeth and 5metal crowns from a prepared maxillary premolar were made. Two marks were flawed on the margin part of each surface at 4-surfaces of each specimen(one mark : crown, the other : metal tooth) and were measured the width with SEM photograph(80 sheets) before and after cementation(Panavia-EX, All-Bond cement, & ZPC) was made. Differences of the widths of marks between before and after were measured, and differences from 4-surfaces of a specimen cemented with a cement were measured and calculated. The results were as follows ; 1. There was a statistically significant difference between the failure loads of group III and the others(p<0.05). 2. There was a statistically significant difference between the cement film thickness of group III and the others(p<0.05).
Fluidity retention of concrete used high range water reducing AE agent(HWAE) is varied according to main component, dosage amount and dosing method of HWAE. The type and substitution ratio of mineral admixture also have influence on the fluidity retention of concrete used HWAE. In this study, for the purpose of improving the fluidity retention in concrete used HWAE. 3 types of HWAE and ground granulated blast furnace slag(SG) are used in cement paste, mortar and concrete varing dosage amount and dosing time of HWAE and substitution ratio of SG respectively. According to using the HWAE of naphthalene sulfonates and SG, the fluidity retention of mortar and concrete is improved remarkably. And after 30 min, dosing method of HWAE is very effective in improving the fluidity retension and strength of concrete regardless of type of HWAE.
Reinforced concrete(R/C) is commonly used to structures because they have many merits that compressive strength, economy and so on. However, reinforced concrete has a crack at the tensile section which is due to the relatively lower tensile strength than its compressive strength Latex modified concrete(LMC) has higher tensile and flexural strength than the ordinary portland cement, due to the interconnections of hydrated cement and aggregates by a film of latex particles. The purpose of this study was to investigate the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete beam with latex modified concrete, having the main experimental variables such as concrete types(ordinary portland cement concrete, latex modified concrete), latex contents(0%, 15%), flexural steel ratios(0.012, 0.0235), and with/without shear reinforcement. The beam of LMC showed considerably higher initial cracking loads and ductility than that of OPC, but, similar to ultimate strength and deflection. This might be attributed to the interlocking of hydrated cement and aggregates by a film of latex particles, water retention due to hydrophobic, and colloidal properties of the latexes resulting in reduced water evaporation. The beam with latex modified concrete could be adopted at field for controlling and reducing the tensile crack due to its higher tensile strength.

PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of atmospheric plasma (APL) versus conventional surface treatments on the adhesion of self-adhesive resin cement to Ti-6Al-4V alloy. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Sixty plates of machined titanium (Ti) discs were divided into five groups (n=12): 1) Untreated (CNT); 2) Sandblasted (SAB); 3) Tribochemically treated (ROC); 4) Tungsten CarbideBur (TCB); 5) APL treated (APL). SEM analysis and surface roughness (Ra) measurements were performed. Self-adhesive resin cement was bonded to the Ti surfaces and shear bond strength (SBS) tests, Ra and failure mode examinations were carried out. Data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and chi-squared test. RESULTS. The lowest SBS value was obtained with CNT and was significantly different from all other groups except for APL. The ROC showed the highest SBS and Ra values of all the groups. CONCLUSION. It was concluded that the effect of APL on SBS and Ra was not sufficient and it may not be a potential for promoting adhesion to titanium.

The bearing methods using pile of steel itself or reinforced concrete has been applying which in excavated depth was not deep. Also, the retaining wall as resisting structure to lateral force has taken weakness that the cure periods of concreted is long. Recently, with the material cost of steel, the application of cement is more increasing trend. In this study, the design methods of earth retaining and retention wall within the pre-casted concrete pile, PHC(Pretentioned spun High strength Concrete piles), was proposed which in the ground condition of excavated depth was not deep. The typical ground conditions, cohesive and non-cohesive soil, was considered as follows; soil strength as internal friction angle and UU(Undrained Unconsolidation triaxial test) strength, soil reaction and stabilization of structures. The application of design methods could be confirmed through the comparing and analyzing between measured data and utility software for the design.
