Fire resistance evaluation of fiber-reinforced cement composites using cellulose nanocrystals

  • In this study, the effect of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) on the fire resistance properties of fiber-reinforced cement composites was investigated. The main variables were CNCs content (0.4, 0.8 and 1.2vol.% compared with cement), steel fiber ratio, and exposure temperature (100, 200, 400, 600 and 800℃). The fire resistance properties, i.e., residual compressive strength, flexural strength, and porosity, were evaluated in relation with the exposure temperature of the specimens. The CNCs suspensions were prepared to composited dispersion method of magnetic stirring and ultra-sonication. CNCs are effective for increasing the compressive strength at high temperatures but CNCs do not seem to have a significant effect on flexural reinforcement. Porosity test result showed CNCs reduce the non-hydration area inside the cement and promote hydration.

식이 섬유소가 어류단백 소화율에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Dietary Fiber on the In Vitro Digestibility of Fish Protein)

  • 단백소화율에 미치는 식이 섬유소의 영향에 대하여 알아보기 위해, 채소류(상치, 깻잎, 고추. 다시마)로부터 추출한 식이 섬유소와 시판용 정제 식이 섬유소 (cellulose, pectin, sodium alginate, gum karaya)를 어류 단백질인 말쥐치 단백질(냉동건조육 및 myofibrils)에 첨가 반응시켜, 단백질 의 소화율에 어느 정도 영향을 미치는가에 대해 알아보았다. 각 시료의 중성세제 추출섬유소 (neutral detergent fiber) 함량은 24.21%(고추) 9.75%(다시마)의 범위였고, 산성세제 추출섬유소 (acid detergent fiber) 함량은 20.85%(고추) 11.97%(깻잎)의 범위였으며, 수용성 섬유소 함량은 13.79%(다시마) 4.41%(상치)의 범위였다. 말쥐치 단백질에 대한 식이 섬유소의 반응 비율을 1 : 1 (wt/wt)로 하고, 37$^{\circ}C$에서 2시간 동안 반응시켰을 때. 말쥐치 단백소화율은 정제 식이 섬유소 첨가의 경우, 1.52%(cellulose) 9.97%(pectin)가 감소되었고. 추출한 식이 섬유소 첨가의 경우, 5.15%(고추) 12.36%(다시마)가 감소되었다. 섬유소의 trypsin 활성저해능은 단백소화율이 감소함에 따라 증가하여, ANRC casein에 대한 soybean trypsin inhibitor 22mg/g (cellulose) 61.82mg/g(gum karaya), 49.75mg/g(고추) 171.52mg/g(상치)에 상응하는 것으로 나타났다. 정제 식이 섬유소에 의한 단백분해효소의 활성 변화는 sodium alginate를 제외하고는 거의 없어, 어류 단백소화율의 저하는 식이 섬유소가 단백질에 직접 결합하여 비소화성 물질을 형성한 결과가 주도하리라 생각되었다. 말쥐치 단백질과 섬유소를 반응시킨 것을 효소 가수분해시킨 후에 측정한 유리 필수 아미노산의 함량은 sodium alginate와 다시마 섬유소의 경우 현저하게 저하하였으며(75% 이상), isoleucine과 valine이 크게 영향을 받았다.

  • 본 연구는 아직까지 활용실적이 적은 제지슬러지소각재를 대량으로 활용할 수 있는 방법을 도출하기 위하여 제지슬러지소각재를 시멘트의 대체재로 사용하고자 하였다. 또한 제지슬러지소각재 대체 시 나타나는 단점인 수화열 및 흡수율의 증가로 인한 수축균열을 폴리프로필렌섬유 및 셀룰로오스섬유를 혼입하여 이에 대한 제어효과를 고찰하여 제지슬러지소각재의 시멘트 대체재로써의 활용가능성을 규명하였다.

Dietary Fiber Reduces Benzo[a]pyrene Hydroxylase Induced by Dietary Benzo[a]pyrene

  • This study was conducted to determine if dietary fiber would reduce exposure of the tissues to dietary benzo[a]pyrene(BP) , a well-known carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, as evaluated by benzo[a]pyrene hydroxylase (BPH) activity. The effects of three different sources of dietary fiber(pectin, polydextrose, and clellulose) on BPH activity were studied using Sprague-Dawley rats. In this study, male rats were fed a fiber-free purified diet for 7 days, whereupon they were switched to experimentla diets for 48h. After 48h, their liver, stomach , small intestinal mucosa and large intestinal mucosa were assayed for BPH activity. Thissues exposed to benzo[a]pyrene(400mg/kg diet, fiber-free) showed significant increse in the activity of BPH ; 27 times in liver, 7 times in stomach, 18 times in small intestinal mucosa and 3 times in large intestine. The inhibition in BP -induced BPH activity by dietary fiber in liver, stomach and small intestinal mucosa was observed in the decreasing order : 10 % perctin > 10% polydextrose >5 % polydextrose > 10% cellulose. Decreased BPH induction indicates that soluble dietry fibers, especially pectin and polydextrose in this study, protect the tissues of digestive system from exposure to BP.

Morphology of Nanocelluloses and Micro-sized Cellulose Fibers Isolated by Acid Hydrolysis Method

  • As a part of utilizing the nanocellulose (NC) from lignocellulosic components of wood biomass, this paper reports preliminary results on the products of sulfuric acid hydrolysis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the morphology of both NC and micro-sized cellulose fiber (MCF) isolated by acid hydrolysis from commercial microcrystalline cellulose (MCC). Field emission.scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were employed to observe the acid hydrolysis suspension, NC, and MCF. The electron microscopy observations showed that the acid hydrolysis suspension, before separation into NC and MCF by centrifugation, was composed of nano-sized NCs and micro-sized MCFs. The morphology of isolated NCs was a whisker form of rod-like NCs. Measurements of individual NCs using TEM indicated dimensions of 6.96$\pm$0.87 nm wide by 178$\pm$55 nm long. Observations of the MCFs showed that most of the MCC particles had de-fibered into relatively long fibers with a diameter of 3-9 ${\mu}m$, depending on the degree of acid hydrolysis. These results suggest that proper technologies are required to effectively realize the potentials of both NCs and MCFs.

액체암모니아, 수산화나트륨, 수산화나트륨/액체암모니아 처리한 면의 미세구조 및 물성 (Fine Structure and Physical Properties of Cotton Fibers and their Fabrics Treated with Liquid Ammonia, NaOH, and NaOH/Liquid Ammonia)

  • Cotton fiber, NaOH-mercerized cotton fiber, cotton fabric, and NaOH-mercerized cotton fabric have been treated by liquid ammonia at -33.4$^{\circ}C$. The fine structures, bending properties, tensile strengthes, shrinkages for laundering, and wrinkle recoveries were studied. The treatment of cottons with liquid ammonia brought about the transition of crystal lattice ; transforming cellulose I crystal of original cotton to cellulose I and III crystal, and cellulose II crystal of mercerized cotton to cellulose II and III crystals. The degree of crystallinities were decreased in the order of liquid ammonia>NaOH/liquid ammonia>NaOH-treated cotton. However moisture regain and water absorbency for liquid ammonia-treated cotton were lower than that of NaOH-treated cotton because of a difference in swelling actions of the agents. It seems caused by intermicrofibrillar pores produced in swelling processes. The bending rigidity and bending hysteresis were decreased remarkly by liquid ammonia treatment. Therefore softness and dimensional stability were improved. The liquid amminia and NaOH/liquid ammonia-treated cottons moreover show excellent properties in tensile strength, anti-shrinkage for laundering, and wrinkle recovery.

  • 대량발효 후 미세여과막과 MWCO 100K, 50K의 한외여과막을 이용한 막분리시스템을 적용하여 MTGase를 분리한 결과 pore size 1.6, $0.7\;{\mu}m$의 cellulose fiber 재질의 예비여과막과 $0.45\;{\mu}m$ cellulose acetate재질의 미세여과막을 이용하여 얻어진 분리액을 MWCO 100K와 50K를이용하여 농축시킨 결과 enzyme의 농도가 1.29 units/ml, 효소 비활성도는 약 0.2 units/mg protein 으로 나타났으며 초기 배양액에 비해 3.7배의 농축효과를 보였다.

각종 셀룰로오스 나노섬유의 첨가가 닥나무 인피섬유 시트의 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of The Addition of Various Cellulose Nanofibers on The Properties of Sheet of Paper Mulberry Bast Fiber)

  • 본 연구는 셀룰로오스 나노섬유를 닥나무 인피섬유 시트의 제조시 첨가하여, 닥나무 인피섬유 시트의 특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 형태학적 및 화학적 성질이 다른 5종류의 셀룰로오스 나노섬유, 즉 리그노셀룰로오스 나노섬유 (lignocellulose nanofiber, LCNF), 홀로셀룰로오스 나노섬유(holocellulose nanofiber, HCNF), 알칼리처리 홀로셀룰로오스 나노섬유(alkali-treated HCNF, AT-HCNF), TEMPO-산화 나노섬유(TEMPO-oxidated nanofiber, TEMPO-NF), 셀룰로오스 나노크리스탈(cellulose nanocrystal, CNC)을 제조하였으며, 각 나노섬유의 종류 및 첨가량이 닥나무 인피섬유시트 제조시의 여수시간 및 시트의 투기도, 평활도, 인장강도 특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 여수시간은 모든 나노섬유에 있어서 첨가량이 증가함으로서 길어졌으며, 5%의 첨가량에서 HCNF가 가장 여수시간이 길었다. 또한, 셀룰로오스 나노섬유 첨가량이 증가할수록 시트의 평활도, 인장강도 특성이 향상되었으며, 특히 0.1%의 극히 적은양의 나노섬유 첨가로도 비인장강도 및 탄성계수가 크게 향상되는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 특성 향상은 닥나무 인피섬유 간에 교차적으로 적층되어 있는 셀룰로오스 나노섬유의 충전 효과에 기인하는 것을 전자현미경 사진을 통해 확인할 수 있었다.

  • The effects of dietary fiber on true digestibility of amino acids by growing pigs were studied, using semi-purified diets formulated from alfalfa meal, cassava leaf meal, rubber seed meal and leucacna meal at 20% level. A protein-free diet including 5% cellulose was formulated for correcting the endogenous amino acid loss. Across all the diets, arginine was the most digestible while the least at ileal level was threonine; methionine and/or histidine at fecal level respectively. The true digestibility value of amino acids at ileal level were higher than at fecal level except control diet (cellulose). The true digestibility values at ileal level were similar for all diets but differed at fecal level in different magnitude. These results indicate that undigestible compound in individual feedstuff might confound. True digestibility should be studied together for accurate diet formulation as apparent digestibility decreased when their amino acid concentration in the diet was reduced.

Preparation of Novel Iron Phthalocyanine Containing Reactive Groups and its Deodorizing Property on Cellulose

  • The enzyme-like catalytic functions of metal complex phthalocyanine derivatives those containing carboxylic acid groups could be applied as odor-removing systems and antibacterial systems. Pyromellitic dianhydride and 4-nitrophthalimide were used as starting material for synthesizing dinitro-tetracarboxylic acid iron phthalocyanine(compound 1). Then diamino-tetracarboxylic phthalocyanine(compound 2) was obtained by reduction of compound 1. For the formation of covalent bond with cellulose fiber, cyanuric chloride was introduced to the amino group of compound 2 by condensation reaction compound 3. The exhaustion method was employed for adsorbing compound 3 on cotton fiber. K/S values of each fabrics were measured by a CCM system and deodorizing rates were tested by a detector tube method for ammonia gas. K/S values of treated cotton fiber with compound 3 were arranged from 2.1 to 4.2 at $90^{\circ}C$ of exhaustion temperature. Deodorizing rates provided result of 81%, 84%, 88%, 91%, by passing time of 30 min, 60 min, 90 min, 120 min, respectively.
