  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relation among adolescents' school consumer education, cell phone consumption behavior and satisfaction with cell phone consumption life. Finally, this study aims to find right ways for leading to adolescents' reasonable consumption life and improving the school consumer education. A survey was conducted to the second grade students 430 of middle school residing in Seoul and the Capital area. As the result of examining the relation among school consumer education, consumption behavior, and consumption life satisfaction, the learning of 'information analysis and decision making process' has a positive effect on 'reasonable purchase and active problem-solving' behavior, and the learning of 'consumption culture' on 'active problem-solving and ethic use' behavior, the learning of 'problem-solving and rights and responsibilities' on 'ethic use' behavior. In addition, it shows that 'ethic usage behavior' in consumption behavior has a positive influence on 'relation satisfaction', and 'reasonable purchase' behavior and 'active problem-solving' behavior on 'practical usage satisfaction'.

  • A microarray dataset is 2-dimensional dataset with a set of genes and a set of conditions. A bicluster is a subset of genes that show similar behavior within a subset of conditions. Genes that show similar behavior can be considered to have same cellular functions. Thus, biclustering algorithm is a useful tool to uncover groups of genes involved in the same cellular process and groups of conditions which take place in this process. We are proposing a polynomial time algorithm to identify functionally highly correlated biclusters. Our algorithm identifies 1) the gene set that has hidden patterns even if the level of noise is high, 2) the multiple, possibly overlapped, and diverse gene sets, 3) gene sets whose functional association is strongly high, and 4) deterministic biclustering results. We validated the level of functional association of our method, and compared with current methods using GO.

  • In this paper, the new scheme using a Combined Cache(CC) that combing the Paging and Routing Cache(PRC) and an alternative handoff method according to the type of data transmission for achieving the efficient realtime communication. The PRC and quasi-soft handoff method reduce the path duplication. But they increase the network traffic load because of the handoff state packet of Mobile Host(MH). Moreover the use the same handoff method without differentiating the type of transmission data. Those problems are solved by operating U with a semi-soft handoff method for realtime data transmission and with a hard handoff method for non-realtime data transmission. As a result or simulation a better performance is obtained because of the reduction of the number of control packet in case that the number of cells are below 20. And the packet arrival time and loss of packet decreased significantly for realtime data transmission.

  • Hepatitis B virus X (HBx) protein has been reported as a key protein regulating the pathogenesis of HBV-induced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Recent evidence has shown that HBx is implicated in the activation of autophagy in hepatic cells. Nevertheless, the precise molecular and cellular mechanism by which HBx induces autophagy is still controversial. Herein, we investigated the molecular and cellular mechanism by which HBx is involved in the TRAF6-BECN1-Bcl-2 signaling for the regulation of autophagy in response to TLR4 stimulation, therefore influencing the HCC progression. HBx interacts with BECN1 (Beclin 1) and inhibits the association of the BECN1-Bcl-2 complex, which is known to prevent the assembly of the pre-autophagosomal structure. Furthermore, HBx enhances the interaction between VPS34 and TRAF6-BECN1 complex, increases the ubiquitination of BECN1, and subsequently enhances autophagy induction in response to LPS stimulation. To verify the functional role of HBx in liver cancer progression, we utilized different HCC cell lines, HepG2, SK-Hep-1, and SNU-761. HBx-expressing HepG2 cells exhibited enhanced cell migration, invasion, and cell mobility in response to LPS stimulation compared to those of control HepG2 cells. These results were consistently observed in HBx-expressed SK-Hep-1 and HBx-expressed SNU-761 cells. Taken together, our findings suggest that HBx positively regulates the induction of autophagy through the inhibition of the BECN1-Bcl-2 complex and enhancement of the TRAF6-BECN1-VPS34 complex, leading to enhance liver cancer migration and invasion.

  • Car simulation by TRANSIMS is able to rapidly analyze the broad area based on CA(Cellular Automata) theory, which is the great advantage compared to other existing programs. As the source code of TRANSIMS is open, it may be modified by incorporating the network and traffic characteristics. This study uses the traffic thematic map built in the Korean National Traffic DB(KTDB) center among input date used for building network data of TRANSIMS. However, because the traffic thematic map is not composed as the type required by TRANSIMS, it was corrected and complemented to build a network, and the traffic volume at arterial roads and the traffic volume at each direction of the intersection was calculated through simulation for the area of Suseong-Gu, Daegu Metro. This was compared to the actual traffic volume. As a result of the simulation, it shows error from 14% to 42% at intersection, and from 3% to 8% at arterial roads. This result is very satisfactory because the entire traffic volume of Daegu Metro was not considered, and the tendency of drivers avoiding path due to construction on certain section, the status of road surface and chronic congestion was not reflected.

  • Since NNK is one of the most abundant tobacco-specific alkaloids and a strong carcinogenic nitrosamine, it has been used for evaluating a potential of carcinogenicity in the animal models. The present study has attempted to examine the potential of carcinogenicity of NNK in human epithelial cells, from which the cell type the most of cancers including oral cancer and nasal cavity cancer are originated. The cellular model used for the study is a human keratinocyte cell system immortalized by Ad12-SV40 hybrid virus. The cellular system has successfully been used for the carcinogenicity studies because of its limitless life span, epithelial morphology and nontumorigenicity. When cells were treated with a variety of NNK concentrations, levels of saturation density and soft agar colony formation were increased in a dose-dependent fashion. Colonies of large cell aggregates were above 5 at the higher doses. The results indicate that exposure of human cells with NNK induced loss of contact inhibition and increases of anchorage independence and cellular adhesion, which are typical characteristics of the neoplatically transformed cells. When cells were exposed with 100uM NNK for 2hr, mRNA levels of IL-1 and PAI-2 were increased in a dose-dependent manner, but expression of TGF- 1 was not affected. While expression of growth regulatory factors were altered with a short-term exposure, there was no alteration of these factors in the NNK-transformed cells. However, mRNA levels of fibronectin were increased both in the short-term treatment and in the transformation. The results suggest that altered expression of extracellular matrix such as fibronectin following short-term exposure might be fixed in the genome and these altered properties be continuously transfered throughout the cell division. Western blot analysis showed a translocation of PKC- from cytosolic fraction to the particulate fraction, indicating a possible role of NNK in the signal transduction pathway. The present study provided an evidence that NNK in the smoking may be associated with epithelial origin cancer such as oral and nasal cavity cancers. In addition, this study suggested that altered expression of extracellular matrix and PKC may play an important role in the carcinogenic mechanism of NNK.

  • In an effort to establish adaptive measures for low carbon use and climate change, this study developed storylines for shared socio-economic reference pathways(SSP) and simulated change in land use for each storyline. First, cellular automata modeling was performed using past data, and a transition rule for the local characteristics of each planning area under study was derived by comparing with the results of the base year. Second, three storylines were formulated based on the hypothesized change in land use for the SSP. SSP1, the scenario for sustainability, assumed that the land was developed into a compact city, SSP2 assumed the development of a road through the middle of the land while maintaining the current situation, and SSP3 assumed unsustainable development into a fragmented world. Third, change in land use depending on planning area was predicted by integrating the SSP scenarios with cellular automata(CA) modeling. According to the results of analysis using the SSP scenarios, the urban area ratio increased slightly up to 2020 in SSP1 and up to 2030 in SSP2 and did not change any more subsequently, but it increased continuously until 2050 in SSP3 that assumed low level urban planning. These results on change in land use are expected to contribute towards making reasonable decisions and policies on climate change, and the outcomes of simulation derived from spatial downscaling, if applied to vulnerability assessment, will be useful to set the priority of policies on climate change adaptation.

  • Airborne particulate matter (PM) is an environmentally hazardous pollutant that originates from various sources. PM is comprised of solid particles and liquid droplets of diverse composition and size. Hazardous chemical compositions of PM include elemental and organic carbon, organic compounds, biological compounds and metals. Upon acute and chronic PM exposure, toxic contaminants enter and accumulate within physiological systems and prompt cell structure changes accompanied with intracellular endoplasmic reticulum stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, inflammation, lipid accumulation, and cell cycle arrest. Ultimately, these cellular response leads to the development of key characteristics of aging. In addition, PM internalization enhances autophagy reflux and lysosomal dysfunction, which is involved in cell aging. Previous studies have emphasized a positive association between PM and increased mortality or decreased lifespan, although these are evidenced mostly by observational studies. Direct evidence of the link between PM and aging is still limited. This review evaluates the evidence from not only observational studies but also in vitro and in vivo evidence of PM on aging progression and age-related diseases development. This evidence is based on age-associated cellular changes including endoplasmic reticulum stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, inflammation, adipose accumulation, autophagy, which strengthen the association between PM exposure and aging. Understanding the underlying cellular responses under PM may allow for the development of new therapeutic targets for PM-induced aging.

  • Continuous improvements of network infrastructures and mobile data offloading strategies are among the solutions of cellular providers to cope with the increase in mobile data demand. These options requires a lot of cost and time to implement. Few researches have been conducted to assess the applicability of Pocket Switched Network (PSN) to support mobile data offloading. In this paper, we present a PSN mobile data-offloading scheme that utilizes mobile users with available connectivity to deliver content-aware data to other mobile users. This paper also aims to evaluate the applicability and feasibility of PSN routing schemes to improve the current strategies in mobile data offloading. The simulation results show admirable results in terms of message delivery and latency.
