Next-generation (4G) systems are designed to support universal frequency reuse (UFR) to achieve best use of valuable spectra. However, it leads to undesirable interference level near cell borders. To control this, 4G systems adopt techniques, such as network multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and inter-cell interference coordination (ICIC), to improve cell-edge throughput. Network MIMO aims at mitigating inter-cell interference towards cell-edge users (CEUs) through multi-cell cooperation, where each collaborative base station serves both cell-center users (CCUs) and CEUs, including other cells' CEUs, under a power constraint. The present ICIC strategies cannot be directly applied to network MIMO because they were designed in absence of multi-cell coordination. In the presence of network MIMO, this paper investigates antenna orientations in ICIC and the method of power management. Results show that a proper antenna orientation can improve the cell-edge capacity and meantime lower the interference to CCUs. Capacity inconsistency between CCUs and CEUs is detrimental to mobile communications. Simulation results show that the proposed power management for ICIC in network MIMO systems can achieve a uniform data rate regardless users' position.

In recent years, dense small cell network has been deployed to address the challenge that has resulted from the unprecendented growth of mobile data traffic and users. It has proven to be a cost efficeient solution to offload traffic from macro-cells. Software defined heterogeneous wireless network can decouple the control plane from the data plane. The control signal goes through the macro-cell while the data traffic can be offloaded by small cells. In this paper, we propose a framework for cell virtualization and user association in order to satisfy versatile requirements of multiple tenants. In the proposed framework, we propose an interference graph partioning based virtual-cell association and customized physical-cell association for multi-homed users in a software defined small cell network. The proposed user association scheme includes 3 steps: initialization, virtual-cell association and physical-cell association. Simulation results show that the proposed virtual-cell association outperforms the other schemes. For physical-cell association, the results on resource utilization and user fairness are examined for mobile users and infrastructure providers.
Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) has been widely applied to provide insights into the cell-by-cell expression difference in a given bulk sample. Accordingly, numerous analysis methods have been developed. As it involves simultaneous analyses of many cell and genes, efficiency of the methods is crucial. The conventional cell type annotation method is laborious and subjective. Here we propose a semi-automatic method that calculates a normalized score for each cell type based on user-supplied cell type-specific marker gene list. The method was applied to a publicly available scRNA-seq data of mouse cardiac non-myocyte cell pool. Annotating the 35 t-stochastic neighbor embedding clusters into 12 cell types was straightforward, and its accuracy was evaluated by constructing co-expression network for each cell type. Gene Ontology analysis was congruent with the annotated cell type and the corollary regulatory network analysis showed upstream transcription factors that have well supported literature evidences.
This paper presents a new heuristic algorithm for the machine cell(MC) formation problem. MC formation problem is represented as an unbalanced k-way network partition and the proposed algorithm uses four stage-approach to solve the problem. Four stages are natural sub-network formation, determination of intial vertexes for each sub-network, determination of initial partition, and improvement of initial partition. Results of experiments show that the suggested algorithm provides near optimal solutions within very short computational time.
Fast service access involves keeping track of the location of mobile users, while they are moving around the mobile network for a satisfactory level of QoS (Quality of Service) in a cost-effective manner. The location databases are used to keep track of Mobile Terminals (MT) so that incoming calls can be directed to requested mobile terminals at all times. MT reporting cell system used in location management is to designate each cell in the network as a reporting cell or a non-reporting cell. Determination of an optimal number of reporting cells (or reporting cell configuration) for a given network is reporting cell planning (RCP) problem. This is a difficult combinatorial optimization problem which has an exponential complexity. We can see that a cell in a network is either a reporting cell or a non-reporting cell. Hence, for a given network with N cells, the number of possible solutions is 2N. We propose a biogeography based optimization (BBO) for design of mobile station location management system in wireless communication network. The number and locations of reporting cells should be determined to balance the registration for location update and paging operations for search the mobile stations to minimize the cost of system. Experimental results show that our proposed BBO is a fairly effective and competitive approach with respect to solution quality for optimally designing location management system because BBO is suitable for combinatorial optimization and multi-functional problems.
In this study, we developed a whole cardiovascular system model combined with a Laplace heart based on the numerical cardiac cell model and a detailed arterial network structure. The present model incorporates the Laplace heart model and pulmonary model using the lumped parameter model with the distributed arterial system model. The Laplace heart plays a role of the pump consisted of the atrium and ventricle. We applied a cellular contraction model modulated by calcium concentration and action potential in the single cell. The numerical arterial model is based upon a numerical solution of the one-dimensional momentum equations and continuity equation of flow and vessel wall motion in a geometrically accurate branching network of the arterial system including energy losses at bifurcations. For validation of the present method, the computed pressure waves are compared with the existing experimental observations. Using the cell-system-arterial network combined model, the pathophysiological events from cells to arterial network are delineated.
In this paper we deal with a cell planning issue arisen in a CDMA based multicast network. In a CDMA based wireless network, a terminal can significantly reduce the bit error rate via the cohesion of data streams from multiple base stations. In this case, multiple base stations have to be operated according to a common time line. The cells whose base stations are operated as such are called soft-combined cells. Therefore, a terminal can take advantage of error rate reduction, if the terminal is in a soft-combined cell and at least one neighboring cell is also soft-combined. However, as soft-combining operation gives heavy burden to the network controller, the limited number of cells can be soft-combined. Our problem us to find a limited number of soft-combined cells such that the benefit of the soft-combining operation is maximized.
