A numerical stack model has been developed to predict the temperature at a constant-load operation of molten carbonate fuel cell stacks. For the validity of the model, the simulated results with several boundary conditions were compared in the cell temperature data obtained from 75 kW class MCFC stack operation. It was shown that the simulated results with the existing boundary condition, which the stack outlet temperature was fixed at $650^{\circ}C$, didn't match well with the measured data. On the other hand, the stack model with the outlet temperature modified by the outlet manifold temperature measured from the stack under several electric loads was found to explain the measured cell temperature distribution well. The results show that the model can be used to predict the cell temperature distribution in the stacks by the measurement of the manifold outlet temperature.
A monoterpene lactone, loliolide was successively isolated from brown seaweed, Sargassum ringgoldianum subsp. coreanum using column chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography. The structure of the isolated compound was determined by comparison of EIMS and NMR spectral data with the previously published data. The antioxidant activities of loliolide were also evaluated by DPPH and $H_2O_2$ radical and intracellular reactive oxygen species scavenging assays, and it showed moderate activities in all antioxidant assays. Furthermore, loliolide was found to exert positive dose-dependent effects in the protective effects against $H_2O_2$-induced cell damage which were determined via MTT, Hoechst staining assays and cell cycle analysis. This is the first study on chemical constituent of this seaweed according to our best knowledge. These results clearly indicated that loliolide isolated from Sargassum ringgoldianum subsp. coreanum can protect the cells against $H_2O_2$-induced cell damage or apoptosis.

In this paper hair bundle feature model and integration method for hair cell models were proposed. The proposed hair bundle feature model was based on spring-damper-mass model. Input of integrated vestibular hair cell model was frequency and output was interspike interval of hair cell that was reflected the feature of hair bundles. Irregular afferents that had a great gain variation showed reduction of negative stiffness section. Regular afferents that had a small gain variation, however, showed same feature with base negative stiffness feature. As a result, integrated vestibular hair cell model showed almost the same modeling data with experimental data in the modeled eleven frequency bands. It is verified that the proposed model is a good model for hair bundle feature modeling.
Continuous on-line monitoring of cell concentration and growth rate in aerobic batch fermentation process was carried out by analyzing the exhaust gas composition of tormentor with a quadrupole mass spectrometer. From the mass spectrometric analyses of major gaseous components, i.e. $N_2$, $O_2$, $CO_2$ and $H_2O$, and the material balance equations for oxygen and carbon dioxide, oxygen uptake rate (OUR) rind carbon dioxide evolution rate (CER) were instantaneously calculated using a computer (16-bit IBM PC-AT) interfaced to a quadrupole mass spectrometer. The calculated OUR and CER data were used for the estimation of cell concentration and growth rate of Candida utilis during batch culture. It was found that the cell concentration could be satisfactorily estimated from the data of OUR arid CER during the culture and this method could be successfully und for the continuous monitoring of cell growth and growth rate.

For multi-cell environments, coordinated random beamforming technique in multiuser MIMO(multiple-input multiple-output) broadcast channel is considered. In order to mitigate severe interference at receivers, the multi-cell environments might require complex transmitter and receiver design because the scheduler decision based on full channel state information (CSI) in one cell must be intertwined with decision made by other cells' CSI. With limited CSI, however, this paper considers a scheme of randomizing transmitters' beamforming but being coordinated with other cell transmitters. The transmitters in each cell share random beamforming patterns and schedule data transmission within coherent scheduling period. The corandomized beams allow the users to be selected with the highest SINRs even in multi-cell environments. We analyze the performance of the proposed scheme. And numerical results show that the scheme achieves better performance than the conventional random beamforming when applying to multi-cell environments.
Burman (1987) and Hall and Titterington (1987) studied kernel smoothing for sparse multinomial data in detail. Both of their estimators for cell probabilities are sparse asymptotic consistent under some restrictive conditions on the true cell probabilities. Dong and Simonoff (1994) adopted boundary kernels to relieve the restrictive conditions. We propose a local linear kernel estimator which is popular in nonparametric regression to estimate cell probabilities. No boundary adjustment is necessary for this estimator since it adapts automatically to estimation at the boundaries. It is shown that our estimator attains the optimal rate of convergence in mean sum of squared error under sparseness. Some simulation results and a real data application are presented to see the performance of the estimator.

So far, it was very difficult to simulate the dispersed generation system including PV generation system using EMTP or EMTDC because the source of the dispersed generation system has a particular VI characteristic equation. In this paper, a novel simulation method of PV generation system has proposed and a new solar cell component for EMTDC is also developed. The VI characteristic equation of solar cell is used in order to realize the solar generation system in EMTDC simulation. Consequently the simulation of PV power generation system using field data is realized and acceptable results, which show close match between the real data of PV panel and the simulated data, were obtained.

This study is concerned with the machine part grouping m cellular manufacturing. To group machines into the set of machine cells and parts into the set of part families, new p-median model considering the production data such as the operation sequences and production volumes for parts is proposed. Unlike existing p-median models relying on the classical binary part-machine incidence matrix which does not reflect the real production factors which seriously impact on machine-part grouping, the proposed p-median model reflects the production factors by adopting the new similarity coefficient based on the production data-based part-machine incidence matrix of which each non-binary entry indicates actual intra-cell or inter-cell flows to or from machines by parts. Computation test compares the proposed p median model favorably.
This paper describes the systematic control method of process information transfer and machine cell control in FMS implementation. We have constructed an experimental FMS computer network and control system. The system hardware consists of host computer to manage process data and information transfer of machine cells, cell control computers to control machine cells(NC lathe, machining center). On the other hand, software is made up of oredr management module, NC program searching and generation module, NC part program error check module and cell control module. In this study, we could arrive at conclusion as following : The first, each task could be accomplihed by the efficient information transfer in hierachical computer network. The second, data base system of part programs and process control data is needed for the efficint information transfer and production management. Lastly, expansion of FMS control system could be achieved by the hierachical and decentralized computer control system.

Lattice process models are used to explain phase transitions in statistical mechanics, a branch of physics. The Ising model, a specific form of lattice process model, was proposed by Ising in 1925. Since then, variants of the Ising model such as the Potts model and the unitary cell model have been proposed. Like the Ising model, it is believed that the more general models exhibit phase transitions on the critical surface, which is based on the mathematical equation. In statistical sense, phase transitions can be simulated through Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC). We applied Swendsen-Wang algorithm, a block Gibbs algorithm, to a general lattice process models and we simulate phase transition phenomena of the unitary cell model.
