  • In this paper, CdS thin films, which were widey used window layer of the CdS/CdTe and the CdS/$CuInSe_2$ heterojunction solar cell, were grown by chemical bath deposition, and effects of temperature of reaction solution on the structural properties were investigated. Cadmium acetate and thiourea were used as cadmium and sulfur source, respectively. And ammonium acetate was used as the buffer solution. The reaction velocity was increased with increasing temerature of reaction solution. For temperature <= $85^{\circ}C$, as increasing temperature of solution, deposition rate of CdS films was increased by ion-by-ion reaction in the substrate surface, and the crystallinity of the films was improved. However, for temperature <= $55^{\circ}C$, deposition rate was decreased resulting from smaller Cd2+ ion, and the grain size was decreased.

  • In this paper, CdS thin films, which were widely used as a window layer of the CdS/CdTe and the $CdS/CuInSe_2$heterojunction solar cell, were grown by chemical bath deposition, and the structural, optical and electrical properties of the films on reaction temperatures were investigated. Cadmium acetate and thiourea were used as cadmium and sulfur source, respectively. And Ammonium acetate was used as the buffer solution. As the reaction temperatures were increased, the deposition rate of CdS fllms prepared by CBD was increased and the grain size was large due to increasing reaction rate in solution, also optical transmittance of the films in visible lights was increased on rising reaction temperatures.

  • In this paper CdS thin films, which were widely used window layer of the CdS/CdTe and the CdS/$CuInSe_2$ heterojunction solar cell, were grown by chemical bath deposition, which is a very attractive method for low-cost and large-area solar cells, and the structural, optical and electrical properties of the films was studied. As the thiourea/$CdAc_2$ mole ratio was increased, the deposition rate of CdS films prepared by CBD was increased due to increasing reaction velocity in solution and the optical bandgap was increased at higher thiourea/$CdAc_2$ mole ratio due to larger grain size and continuous microstructure. The minimum resistivity of the films was at thiourea/$CdAc_2$ mole ratio of 3.

  • The CIGS Solar Cells have the highest conversion efficiency in the film-type solar cells. They consist of p-type CuInSe2 film and n-type ZnO film. The CdS films are used as buffer layer in the CIGS solar cells since remarkable difference in the lattice constant and energy band gap of two films. The CdS films are toxic and make harmful circumstances. The CdS films deposition process need wet process. In this works, we design and make the hitter and lamp reflection part in the sputtering system for the ZnS films deposition as buffer layer, not using wet process. Film thickness, SEM, and AFM are measured for the uniformity valuation of the ZnS films. We conclude the optimum deposition temperature for the films uniformity less than 1.6%. The ZnS films deposited by the sputtering system are more dense and uniform than the CdS films deposited by the Chemical Bath Deposition Method(CBD) for the CIGS Solar Cells.

  • In this paper, we compared the performance of $Cu(In,Ga)(S,Se)_2$ (CIGSSe) thin film solar cell with CdS buffer layer deposited by irradiating 365 nm UV light with 8 W power in Chemcial Bath Deposition (CBD) process. The effects of UV light irradiation on the thin film deposition mechanism during CBD-CdS thin film deposition were investigated through chemical and electro-optical studies. If the UV light is irradiated during the solution process, the hydrolysis of Thiourea is promoted even during the same time, thereby inhibiting the formation of the intermediate products developed in the reaction pathway and decreasing the pH of the solution. As a result, it is suggested that the efficiency of the CdS/CIGSSe solar cell is increased because the ratio of the S element in the CdS thin film increases and the proportion of the O element decreases. This is a very simple and effective approach to control the S/O ratio of the CdS thin film by the CBD process without artificially controlling the process temperature, solution pH or concentration.

  • CdS thin film was prepared on glass substrate by chemical bath deposition in an alkaline solution. The optical properties of CdS thin film were investigated using spectroscopic ellipsometry. The real (${\varepsilon}_1$) and imaginary (${\varepsilon}_2$) parts of the complex dielectric function ${\varepsilon}(E)={\varepsilon}_1(E)+i{\varepsilon}_2(E)$, the refractive index n(E), and the extinction coefficient k(E) of CdS thin film were obtained from spectroscopic ellipsometry. The normal-incidence reflectivity R(E) and absorption coefficient ${\alpha}(E)$ of CdS thin film were obtained using the refractive index and extinction coefficient. The critical points $E_0$ and $E_1$ of CdS thin film were shown in spectra of the dielectric function and optical constants of refractive index, extinction coefficient, normal-incidence reflectivity, and absorption coefficient. The dispersion of refractive index was analyzed by the Wemple-DiDomenico single-oscillator model.

  • In this study, we analyzed the electric and optical characteristics by using various deposition rate ($0.5{\AA}$, $1.0{\AA}$ and $1.5{\AA}/s$) in order to enhance the performance in organic light-emitting devices (OLED). The organic multi-layer structures were deposited with NPB ($500{\AA}$ as hole transport layer), Alq3 ($600{\AA}$ as electron transport layer and emission layer) and LiF ($8{\AA}$ as electron injection layer) via SUNIC PLUS200 on Glass/ITO substrates. In this experiment, we examined the relationship between porous state of organic deposition and mobility of the organic materials. Among the three deposition rates, $0.5{\AA}/s$ achieved the highest performance of (10,786cd/m2, 4.387cd/A) comparing with that of $1{\AA}/s$ (7,779cd/m2, 3.281cd/A) and $1.5{\AA}/s$ (5,167cd/m2, 2.693cd/A). We confirmed that low deposition rate helps to arrange organic materials densely and to move easily another atomic location using inter-chain transporting by orbital overlap.

  • In this paper, CdS thin films, which were widely used window layer of the CdTe and the Cu(In,Ga)$Se_2$ thin film solar cell, were grown by chemical bath deposition, and effects of pH of reaction solution on the structural and optical properties were investigated. For pH<10.5, as the pH of reaction solution was higher, the deposition rate of CdS films was increased by improving ion-by-ion reaction in the substrate surface and the crystallinity of the films was improved. However, when the pH was higher than 10.5, the deposition rate was decreased because of smaller $Cd^{2+}$ ion concentration in the reaction solution. Also, the crystallinity of the films were deteriorated. The CdS films deposited at lower pH showed poor optical transmittance due to adsorbed colloidal particles, while the transmittance was improved for higher pH.

  • An in-situ monitoring technique for deposition process of CdS buffer layer was developed in this work. A quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) was used to measure the frequency change during the CdS deposition process and the relation ship between frequency change and film thickness and optical transmittance was investigated. The film thickness shows a linear relationship with frequency change, demonstrating that frequency change measured by QCM can be used a in-situ monitoring tool for CdS deposition process.

  • Polycrystalline cadmium sulfide(CdS) thin films were deposited on glass substrate by chemical bath deposition(CBD) and vacuum evaporation (VE) techniques. VE-CdS films consisted primarily of hexagonal phase, whereas CBD CdS films containing primarily the cubic form. VE-grown films were shown to have better crystallinity than CBD-grown films. The grain size of the CBD films is smaller than the ones of VE films. VE-CdS films exhibited relatively high transmittance in the above-gap region and band gap compared with CBD films. However, CdTe solar cells with these low quality CBD-CdS layers yield higher and more stable characteristics. Current-voltage-temperature measurements showed that the current transport for both cells was controlled by both tunneling and interface recombination but the cells with CBD-CdS displayed less tunneling.
