  • In this study, a flow analysis is carried out on the wing shape of cooling fan at automobile. By designing three kinds of Canival, Teracan and basic models with CATIA program, this analysis is done on the configuration of cooling fan with the same flow condition. It can be seen that the contour of flow velocity is changed due to the model of wing and the pressure distribution of fluid is changed due to the configuration or the area of wing. In case of cooling model of Teracan among three models, there is the most air flow and it can be thought to be most effective to cool the radiator. And it is possible to be grafted onto the convergence technique at design and show the esthetic sense.

  • In this study, the safety of passenger could be investigated by the analysis of car body to absorb he shock onto automotive door. The damage at door happens because of the collision of automotive door or parking accident due to the carelessness of driver. This door was modelled by CATIA program. The damage process of this model by impact was analyzed and investigated through ANSYS program. The contours of equivalent stress and strain were obtained. It can be known how damage of door becomes under impact and this study result can be thought to contribute for the design of door considering impact safety.

  • In order to improve the recyclability and to reduce the recycling cost and time, the disassembly technology should be systemized because the worn out products can be reused or recycled after disassembly processes. This paper attempts to propose the integrated CATIA-based DfD (Design for Disassembly) support system to promote the disassemblability of products. The system is composed of two modules; evaluation of disassemblability, generation of DfD alternatives. The disassemblability of current vehicle is evaluated to identify the weak point in terms of disassembly using the DELMIA and developed evaluation system. Furthermore a new expert system is developed to propose the optimal redesign rule and principle for generating the DfD alternatives. In order to generate the DfD alternatives, a CATIA-based design support system is implemented. The system can provide quick results and ensure consistency and completeness of the redesign alternatives.

  • The design methodology of plastic injection molding die has been gradually moved from two-dimensional line drawings to three-dimensional solid models. The 3D design gives many benefits, a few of which are: ease of design change, data associativity from concept design to final assembly. In the paper represented is the implementation of a program which automatically generates 3D mold-bases and cooling-lines, conforming to given geometric constraints. It utilized a commercial CAD software and the related API(application program interface) libraries. We constructed a DB(database) of typical mold-bases assembled from standard parts, from which the geometry (position & dimension) of a mold-base and composed parts can be automatical]y determined by a few key parameters. Also we classified cooling lines into several typical types and constructed a DB, from which the position of cooling lines is automatically determined. The research is expected not only to simplify construction of a 3D mold-base model including cooling lines but also to reduce design efforts, by way of databases and automatized determination of geometric dimensions.

  • This paper discusses the dynamics stress of each boom, which occurs as a result of the conflicts on a multi-joint boom at the end effector and structure. In this process, CATIA was applied to create 3D modeling, ADAMS and ANSYS were then performed using mesh analysis by obtaining the stress data to create a MNF(Modal Neutral File) of multi-joint boom. Two types of MNF models were analyzed using ADAMS FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) performing to check the validity of each model. In this process, the models were verified by ADAMS, which performs the dynamic characteristics of conflict. The ADAMS Durability was used to analyze the maximum stress between the multi-joint boom and structure.

  • In the development of large complex assembly, most design changes are from the following reasons.: 1) insufficient consideration of assembling sequence of downstream process. 2) interference and fit-up of related parts. 3) initial design changes which are not completely resolved. In order to reduce the first reason of above, the assembly-centric modeling methodology was proposed in the part (1) of the thesis. In this part (2), a Digital Mock-Up system, which is a tool to build a virtual mock-up in design stage, has been developed in order to prevent the other two reasons. The system can build a virtual assembly in various ways as followings.: 1) assembling parts which are located in user defined envelope. 2) assembling parts with the specified disciplines. 3) assembling parts that are selected in the part list. It can also make an assembly by the combination of above methods. In addition to that, it has the functions to read/write the virtual assembly and to explode parts of the assembly in desired direction. With the virtual assembly, engineers can design interference free parts without making physical mock-up. The system has been implemented with Oracle database management system in CATIA environment.

  • In this paper, a walking vibration sensing system (WVS system) using a Fiber Bragg Grating sensor (FBG sensor) is proposed. The seismic part of the FBG sensor was redesigned for sensitivity enhancement. The external excitation was assumed to be the walking cycle of an adult male. The FBG seismic sensor was redesigned using CATIA and ABAQUS such that the sensor's first mode natural frequency is 3.5 Hz (which is a value near the external excitation frequency). Compared with existing walking vibration sensing systems, this newly created system improves sensitivity 15 times. It is also suitable for intrusion detection applications.

  • The present study reports on the results of a risk survey of machinery safety at a shoe factory in Qingdao, China. The aim is to decrease industrial accidents and increase worker job satisfaction by searching for a change from a trend analysis and making improvements in problem areas. The first risk survey for machinery safety was carried out in April 2005. Based on the analysis of the survey results, machinery safety devices was installed in the factory by using CATlA V5. Also, we investigated job satisfaction concerning working apparatus and work tool improvement in a questionnaire about the working environment. The second survey of machinery safety was carried out in September 2005. We are in the process of comparing the first survey results with the second survey results in order to analyze decreasing trend in industrial accidents and improvement in job satisfaction. So far the data have shown improved short-term turnover and absenteeism. It means CATIVA V5 and CFR has had positive effect regarding safety in shoe manufacture industry. The survey with CATIVA V5 and CFR will be expanded to other East-Asian countries including Vietnam. The hope is that the present approach could make a significant contribution toward improved safety.

  • An integrated machining center is developed for high precision and productivity manufacturing. The developed machine is composed of the high precision spindle using ball bearings, the high stiffness bed and the three axis CNC controller with the high resolution AC servo motor. In this paper, structural and modal analysis for the developed machine are carried out to check the design criteria of machine. The analysis is carried out by FEM simulation with using the commercial software, CATIA V5, ANSYS and ARMD. The simulation model of machine is made by shell and solid finite elements. This study also presents the measurement system on the modal analysis of an integrated machining center. The weak part of the machine is found by the analytical evaluation. The results provide with the structural modification data for good dynamic behaviors. And the safety of machine is confirmed by the modal analysis of modified machine design. As this study results can be trustworthy with the analysis of ANSYS and CATIA, integrated machining center can be successfully developed.

  • Productivity improvement and cost reduction in the aircraft industry have become major industrial objectives, and improving productivity by reducing machining time has become a key focus. When numerical cutting code is created by CAM software, such as CATIA or UG-NX, it is impossible to control machining feed speed using cutting force changes depending on the machining tool path. However, machining an aircraft engine part from difficult material, such as Inconel 718, takes a long time, and tool chipping or breakage often occurs from forcing the machining path too quickly. This study investigated and verified the reliability of the AdvantEdge production module (PM)using cutting power tests. In particular, diffuser and diffuser case parts were considered, comparing cutting power and machining time using AdvantEdge PM and CATIA.
