  • Many have been concerned with the entry of serials in cataloging. Thouzh they believc the form of AACR 6 should be revised, the agreement was not yet reached among them. Whercas some librarians advocate no different entry in cataioging between monographs and serials, some agree that all serials are to be entered under its title. Main arguments are on the concepts of "corporate authorship" and "generic titlc". On account of disagreemefit on these concepts, there appear different ways 9T serials entry in various catalogs or bibliogaphies. Being not clearly defined the concept of "corporate authorship" in Korcan Cltaloging Rules, main cntry of a scrial was quite different either in a few national bibliographies or some universities' catalogs in T a e g ~C ity. In consideration 01 the incompleteness and changing authorship or diffused riuthorship of serials, it is desirable to revise and simplif1, - our czttaloging rules as to all the serials are to be entered under its titlc. This would be in ac.:ord +;ith International Stand~rdso n serials, eg. ISDS and ISBD(S). When a generic term is included in a title, it will not be sn important groblcm as the title mould be usi~ally made up in the form of "corporate name+gcncric term". This is duc to the difference of construction of thc words bciwcen Korean and English languages.ds bciwcen Korean and English languages.

  • We present the Korea Institute for Advanced Study Value-Added Galaxy Catalog (KIAS VAGC), a catalog of galaxies based on the Large Scale Structure (LSS) sample of New York University Value-Added Galaxy Catalog (NYU VAGC) Data Release 7. Our catalog supplements redshifts of 10,497 galaxies with 10 < $r_P\;{\leq}\;17.6$ (1455 with 10 < $r_P\;{\leq}\;14.5$) to the NYU VAGC LSS sample. Redshifts from various existing catalogs such as the Updated Zwicky Catalog, the IRAS Point Source Catalog Redshift Survey, the Third Reference Catalogue of Bright Galaxies, and the Two Degree Field Galaxy Redshift Survey have been put into the NYU VAGC photometric catalog. Our supplementation significantly improves spectroscopic completeness: the area covered by the spectroscopic sample with completeness higher than 95% increases from 2.119 to 1.737 sr. Our catalog also provides morphological types of all galaxies that are determined by the automated morphology classification scheme of Park & Choi (2005), and related parameters, together with fundamental photometry parameters supplied by the NYU VAGC. Our catalog contains matches to objects in the Max Planck for Astronomy (MPA) & Johns Hopkins University (JHU) spectrum measurements (Data Release 7). This new catalog, the KIAS VAGC, is complementary to the NYU VAGC and MPA-JHU catalog.

  • We present a new quasi-stellar object (QSO) selection algorithm using a Support Vector Machine, a supervised classification method, on a set of extracted time series features including period, amplitude, color, and autocorrelation value. We train a model that separates QSOs from variable stars, non-variable stars, and microlensing events using 58 known QSOs, 1629 variable stars, and 4288 non-variables in the MAssive Compact Halo Object (MACHO) database as a training set. To estimate the efficiency and the accuracy of the model, we perform a cross-validation test using the training set. The test shows that the model correctly identifies ~80% of known QSOs with a 25% false-positive rate. The majority of the false positives are Be stars. We applied the trained model to the MACHO Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) data set, which consists of 40 million lightcurves, and found 1620 QSO candidates. During the selection, none of the 33,242 known MACHO variables were misclassified as QSO candidates. In order to estimate the true false-positive rate, we crossmatched the candidates with astronomical catalogs including the Spitzer Surveying the Agents of a Galaxy's Evolution (SAGE) LMC catalog and a few X-ray catalogs. The results further suggest that the majority of the candidates, more than 70%, are QSOs.

  • Active catalog is a kind of digital content that enables consumers to test the functions and features of products from their PCs as if they were using it in real life, by simulating the actions and responses of the product. This new type of interactive digital content can be used extensively to make sales personnel training manuals, sales tools, user manuals and user trouble shooting documents. With active catalogs, companies will be able to compare different designs, show actions according to different functions, and evaluate user reaction to new products without having to produce a single physical prototype or mock-up. At the same time, consumers will be able to understand and 'operate' the product and make well-informed purchase decisions. In this paper, we present a visual event-driven modeling tool, PlayMo, for creating active catalogs, analyze the advantages of using PlayMo, describe the event-driven method used by PlayMo and also introduce two enhanced characteristics of the Event Flow Chart with which the events in PlayMo are structured. Interactive digital content by using the PlayMo3D makes easy, simple and effective design for e-learning, e-catalogue, e-marketing/sales, e-prototyping, customer support, etc. Through its application-ready 3D function visualization solution, engineers and designers can rapidly turn a CAD design model into a 3D interactive virtual product, and the effective function prototyping job can be also completed within a minute.

  • Quasars are among the farthest and brightest objects known in the universe. Because quasars are mostly observed in the redshift range between 1 and 3, they can be used to study large scale structure in the universe, and its evolution over the past billion years. An important issue is the evolution of the quasar luminosity function, which has been investigated for relative small samples of the 2QZ catalog. Here we extend the study to 3 quasar samples, the most recent data of the Milliquas, Master and 2QZ quasar catalogs to determine the luminosity function of quasars and its evolution, using the Standard cosmological ${\Lambda}CDM$ model with ${\Omega}_{\Lambda}=0.73$, ${\Omega}_M=0.27$, and $H_0=70kms^{-1}Mpc^{-1}$. For the purpose of this analysis we initially used 0.25-mag bins and approximately 0.180-redshift bins, then calculated the comoving distance and comoving volume for each bin of redshift and calculated the number of objects in each bin per unit volume, in order to find the number density per absolute magnitude bin. Our analysis on the basis of these new and much more complete datasets is largely in agreement with earlier studies of the luminosity evolution of quasars.

  • Galaxy clusters are the largest structures in the universe located at the top of the cosmological hierarchical model, so the evolution of the universe can be understood by studying clusters of galaxies. Therefore, finding a larger number of galaxy clusters plays an important role in exploring how the universe evolves. A large number of catalogs for galaxy clusters in the northern sky have been published; however, there are few catalogs in the southern sky due to the lack of wide sky survey data. KMTNet Synoptic Survey of Southern Sky(KS4) project, which observes a wide area of the southern sky about 7000 deg2 with KMTNet telescopes for two years, is in progress under the SNU Astronomy Research Center. We use the KS4 multi-wavelength optical data and measure photometric redshifts of galaxies for finding galaxy clusters at redshift z<1. Currently, the KS4 project has observed approximately 33% of the target region, and a pipeline that measures photometric redshifts of galaxies has been created. When the project is completed, we expect to find more than a hundred thousand galaxy clusters, and this will improve the study of galaxy clusters in the southern sky.
