The purpose of this study was to analyze the stress distribution in the dentin and post structures by the various post core materials and the amount of remaining coronal tooth structures. The 2-dimensional finite element models of mandibular 2nd premolars was divided into seven types according to the various amount of remaining coronal tooth structures. All types were modeled using equal length, diameter and shape of the post. 2 types of post and core materials were used : 1) cast gold post and core 2) stainless steel post and compsite resin core 10 Newton force was applied as follows 1) vertical force on occlusal fossa 2) $45^{\circ}$ oblique force on buccal surface of buccal cusp tip The results were as follows : 1. There was no apparent difference in the pattern of stress distribution according to the amount of remaining coronal tooth structure. 2. There was no apparent difference in the pattern of stress distribution within the dentin according to the post and core materials. A cast gold post and core generated lower dentin stress than a stainless steel post and resin core. 3. Max. dentinal stress resulting from vertical force was observed in the lingual side of dentin around the crown margin. This stress resulting from oblique force was observed in the lingual root surface of alveolar bone crest level.

A cast stainless steel may experience an embrittlement when it is exposed to approximately 30$0^{\circ}C$ for long period. In the present investigation, The three classes of the thermally aged CF8M specimie n are prepared using an artificially accelerated aging method. Namely, after the specimen are held for 300, 1800 and 3600hrs. at 43$0^{\circ}C$ respectively, the specimens are quenched in water to room temperature. Load versus load line displacement curves and J-R curves are obtained using the unloading compliance method. $J_{IC}$ values are obtained following ASTM E 813-87 and ASTM E 813-81 methods. In addition to these methods, JIC values are obtained using SZW(stretch zone width) method described in JSME S 001-1981. The results of the unloading compliance method are $J_Q$=485.7 kJ/m$^2$ for virgin material, $J_{IC}$ of the degraded materials associated with 300, 1800 and 3600hrs are obtained 369.25 kJ/m$^2$, 311.02 kJ/m$^2$, 276.7 kJ/m$^2$, respectively. The results of SZW method are similar to those of the unloading compliance method. Through the elastic-plastic fracture toughness test, it is found that the value of $J_{IC}$ is decreased with increasing of the aging time. The results obtained through the investigation can provide reference data for a leak before break(LBB) of reactor coolant system of nuclear power plants.

In this study, the characteristics of cooling and rolling during strip casting process is obtained in comparison with the experimental and analytical results. The prupose of this study is to effectively analyze the thermal and mechanical deformation of roller applying the results of the heat transfer and the pressure distribution to boundary conditions. And then the relation between strip thickness and roll deformation is shown. The second purpose is to obtain the proper condition of the continuous casting for stainless steel. The summary and conclusions can be made on the basis of the results obtained by the theories and experiments. a) The strip casting condition for the fine surface quality of tin-alloy as-cast material was obtained in accordance with the velocity of roll rotation and initial roll gap. b) The experimental condition that the dimension of the cast strip thickness coincide with that of the initial roll gap was according to the experimental result of continuous casting by twin-roll type. c) The thermoelastic finite element model to calculate the roll deformation is represented. Thermoelastic model prediction for the roll deformation are in good agreement with the experimental results considering the thermal expansion of the roll. d) The higher cooling rates were obtained by a twin-roller quenching technique. Also quenched microstructure of the rapidly solidified shell was verified. e) The magnitude of roll deformation due to the thermal expansion and roll separating force is quantit- atively represented in the analysis of continuous casting for stainless steel.
Low-cycle environmental fatigue tests of cast austenitic stainless steel CF8M at the condition of fatigue strain rate 0.04%/sec were conducted at the pressure and temperature, 15MPa, $315^{\circ}C$ of a operating pressurized water reactor. The used test rig was limited to install an extensometer at the gauge length of the cylindrical fatigue specimen inside the small autoclave. So the magnet type LVDT's were used to measure the fatigue displacement at the specimen shoulders inside the high temperature and high pressure water autoclave. However, the displacement and strain measured at the specimen shoulders is different from the one at the gauge length for the geometry and the cyclic strain hardening effect. FEM calculated the displacement and the strain of the gauge length from the data measured at the shoulders. Tensile test properties in elastic and plastic behavior of CF8M material were used in the FEM analysis. A series of low cycle fatigue tests simulating the cyclic strain hardening effect verified that the FEM calculation was well agreed with the simulated tests. The process and method developed in this study would be so useful to produce reliable environmental fatigue curves of CF8M stainless steel in pressurized water reactors.

Low-cycle environmental fatigue tests of cast austenitic stainless steel CF8M at the condition of fatigue strain rate 0.04%/sec were conducted at the pressure and temperature, 15MPa, $315^{\circ}C$ of a operating pressurized water reactor (PWR). The used test rig was limited to install an extensometer at the gauge length of the cylindrical fatigue specimen inside a small autoclave. So the magnet type LVDT#s were used to measure the fatigue displacement at the specimen shoulders inside the high temperature and high pressure water autoclave. However, the displacement and strain measured at the specimen shoulders is different from the one at the gauge length for the geometry and the cyclic strain hardening effect. Displacement of the fatigue specimen gauge length calculated by FEM (finite element method) used to modify the measured displacement and fatigue life at the shoulders. A series of low cycle fatigue life tests in air and PWR conditions simulating the cyclic strain hardening effect verified that the FEM modified fatigue life was well agreed with the simulating test results. The process and method developed in this study for the environmental fatigue test inside the small sized autoclave would be so useful to produce reliable environmental fatigue curves of CF8M stainless steel in pressurized water reactors.
Melt-quenching of steels leads to various metallographic effects such as refinement of grain size, extension of the solid solubility of carbon and alloying elements, and is expected to improve the mechanical properties of conventional steels. Furthermore, this technique is a useful method for producing sheet directly from liquid state. And it will lend itself to development as a continuous cast process which offers significant savings in energy and product costs. The purpose of this study is to present the microstructures of melt-quenched austenitic stainless steels. As the results of this study, the morphology of melt-quenched microstructure show that the roll contact area is columnar structure, and the free surface area is dendrite structure. As the line speed increases, the ratio of $d_{colunnar}/d_{total}$ increases from 0.12 to 0.60, but the ribbon thickness decreases from $150{\mu}m$ to $30{\mu}m$.

The effects of environment and microstructure on low cycle fatigue (LCF) behaviors of CF8M stainless steels containing 11% of ferrites were investigated in a $310^{\circ}C$ deoxygenated water environment. The reduction of LCF life of CF8M in a $310^{\circ}C$ deoxygenated water was smaller than 316LN stainless steels. Based on the microstructure and fatigue surface analyses, it was confirmed that the hydrogen induced cracking contributed to the reduction in LCF life for CF8M as well as for 316LN. However, many secondary cracks were found on the boundaries of ferrite phases in CF8M, which effectively reduced the stress concentration at the crack tip. Because of the reduced stress concentration, the accelerated fatigue crack growth by hydrogen induced cracking was less significant, which resulted in the smaller environmental effects for CF8M than 316LN in a $310^{\circ}C$ deoxygenated water.
The pitting corrosion behavior of 329LD cast lean duplex stainless steel and CF3M cast austenitic stainless steel was investigated in chloride environments. The pitting corrosion resistance of the 329LD alloy was superior to that of the CF3M alloy because the pitting potential, passive region, and critical pitting temperature of the low Ni-low Mo 329LD alloy were higher than those of the high Ni-medium Mo commercial CF3M alloy. There are two main reasons for the enhancement of the pitting corrosion resistance of high Cr-low Momedium N 329LD alloy compared to the low Cr-medium Mo CF3M alloy: First, the pitting resistance equivalent number (PRENδ+γ) value of the 329LD alloy is higher than that of the CF3M alloy. Second, the passive region of the 329LD alloy is larger than that of the CF3M alloy. It indicates that the synergistic effect of the three elements by adding high Cr and low Mo-medium N to the 329LD alloy enhances the passivity of the passive film, thereby increasing the pitting corrosion resistance. It was verified that based on the PRENγ of austenite (γ) and PRENδ of ferrite (δ) values calculated using an N-factor of 16, the pitting corrosion of the 329LD alloy was selectively initiated at the γ-phases because PRENγ value of austenite (γ) was smaller than that of ferrite (δ), and finally propagated from the γ-phase to the δ-phase.
In this study, the characteristics of the experimentally produced high N-high Cr bearing stainless steels are discussed as a part of applications of materials for FGD (Fuel Gas Desulfurization) system of thermal power plants or for power plants using seawater as coolant. Corrosion resistance of developed alloys is especially investigated in detail. Corrosion characteristics of vacuum melted cast are shown to be superior to that of air melted one. From the viewpoint of CPT, It is estimated that the differences of corrosion resistance are $21.8^{\circ}C{\sim}24.6^{\circ}C$ at PRE 40 and $8^{\circ}C{\sim}12.4^{\circ}C$ at PRE 50, and the gaps becomes bigger as the PRE values are lower. In the evaluation of corrosion resistance in alloy A2501, Z3101, and A3301 according to Cr concentration, alloy A3301 shows a deviation from the general tendency in chloride solutions. It has relatively high PRE value as 48.6, but it has relatively poor pitting resistance. It is, however, difficult to observe a specific phase except ferrite in microstructure analysis and neither detects special phase such as sigma phase.
Environmental fatigue of the metallic components in light water reactors has been the subject of extensive research and regulatory interest in Korea and abroad. Especially, it was one of the key domestic issues for the license renewal of operating reactors and licensing of advanced reactors during the early 2000s. To deal with the environmental fatigue issue domestically, a systematic test program has been initiated and is still underway. The materials tested were SA508 Gr.1a low alloy steels, 316LN stainless steels, cast stainless steels, and an Alloy 690 and 52M weld. Through tests and subsequent analysis, the mechanisms of reduced low cycle fatigue life have been investigated for those alloys. In addition, the effects of temperature, dissolved oxygen level, and dissolved hydrogen level on low cycle fatigue behaviors have been investigated. In this paper, the test results and key analysis results are briefly summarized. Finally, an on-going test program for hot-bending of 347 stainless steel is introduced.
