  • We performed the numerical study on the comparison of thermal comport performance indices for cooling loads in the classroom when the 4-way cassette air-conditioner is mounted on the ceiling. We investigated the velocity and the temperature distribution of the classroom as with respect to the variation of the air diffusion angle of the air-conditioner. Air diffusion performance index and Predicted mean vote were used for analyzing the characteristics of the thermal comport in the classroom and comparing their values each other. From the numerical results, we knew that the thermal comport is largely affected by the air diffusion angle and velocity of the air-conditioner. And we also found out that the qualitative tendency of the distribution between Air diffusion performance index and Predicted mean vote is very similar in all occupied zone.

  • In order to confirm the biological function of ORF10 in cephabacin biosynthesis gene cluster of Lysobacter lactamgenus as an ATP-binding-cassette (ABC) transporter, the gene for ORF10 was amplified and subcloned into pET-28a(+) expression vector. After gene induction with 0.5 mM IPTG at 30~! and further cultivation at $30^~$ !. for 8 hr, a lot of the recombinant ORF10 protein was produced as soluble form in cytoplasmic fraction as well as a membrane protein in the membrane fraction as likely as other ABC transporters. • Objectives: Welding is a major task in shipbuilding yards that generates welding fumes. A significant amount of welding in shipbuilding yards is done on steel. Inevitably, manganese is present in the base metals being joined and the filler wire being used and, consequently, in the fumes to which workers are exposed. The objective of this work was to characterize manganese exposure associated with work area, total and particle size-selective mass concentration, and compare the mass concentrations obtained using a three-piece cassette sampler, size-selective impactor sampler and blood manganese concentrations. Materials: All samples were collected from the main work areas at one shipbuilding yard. We used a three piece cassette sampler and the eight stage cascade impactor sampler for the airborne manganese mass concentration of total and all size fractions, respectively. In addition, we used the results of health examination of workers sampled for airborne manganese. Results: The oder of high concentration of airborne manganese in shipbuilding processes was as follows; block assembly, block erection, outfitting installation, steel cutting, and outfitting preparation. The percentages of samples that exceeded the OES of the ministry of employment and labor by the cassette sampling method was 12.5%, however 59.1% of sampled workers by the impactor sampling method exceeded the TLV of the ACGIH. Conclusions: Even though the manganese concentrations in blood of workers exposed to higher airborne manganese concentration were higher than among those exposed to lower concentrations, there was no difference in blood manganese concentrations among work duration. The data analyzed here by characterizing size-selective mass concentrations indicates that the inhaled manganese of welders in shipbuilding yards could be mostly manganese-containing respirable particle sizes.

  • SRSF2, a Serine-Arginine rich (SR) protein, is a splicing activator that mediates exon inclusion and exclusion events equally well. Here we show SRSF2 directly suppresses intron splicing to suppress cassette exon inclusion in SMN pre-mRNA. Through a serial mutagenesis, we demonstrate that a 10 nt RNA sequence surrounding the branch-point (BP), is important for SRSF2-mediated inhibition of cassette exon inclusion through directly interacting with SRSF2. We conclude that SRSF2 inhibits intron splicing to promote exon exclusion.

  • In this study, edible protopanaxadiol saponin enriched fraction were prepared by ultrafiltration (UF). Ginseng extract was prepared from mixtures of ginseng main root and rootlet (root: rootlet = 4 : 6). UF system was used the four-piston Diaphragm pump equipped with 5 kDa pore size Hydrosart Cassette made by regenerated cellulose acetate (CA) or 3 kDa pore size Hollow Fiber cartridge made by polyethersulfone (PES). Total ginsenoside contents of concentrated fraction by UF system was found to higher, compared to before those of untreated method. Especially, processing of UF showed the increase of PPD-type ginsenoside, while PPT-type ginsenoside was gradually decreased by both 3 kDa and 5 kDa membrane. After removal of 80% water by the 5 kDa Hydrosart Cassette and by 3 kDa Hollow Fiber cartridge, ginsenoside Rb1 content was higher 37.2 mg/g and 25.3 mg/g than 20.8 mg/g in untreated process. The ratio of Rb1 to Rg1 (Rb1/Rg1) and PPD- to PPT- type ginsenoside (PPD/PPT) were higher in inner fluid of ginseng extract after UF by 3 kDa cartridge (47.1 and 23.5, respectively) and 5 kDa Cassette (25.3 and 11.9, respectively) than those of before UF (5.7 and 3.7, respectively). PPD-type ginsenoside enriched fraction by UF system could be developed as a new ginseng material in food and cosmetic industrials.
