CBR is a knowledge-based system that utilizes the previous knowledge or experience to solve the current problem. In previous CBR research, the emphases are mainly put on the development of more sophisticated indexing mechanism for past cases or the most similar case retrieving methodology out of a group of previous cases. In this paper, discussed is a CBR system that is able to take advantage of the case or knowledge that does not belong to the past in the telecommunications internetworking design area. And the architecture for such CBR system is proposed. Finally, the performance of the CBR system is shown through an ablation experiment.
A data model is a diagram that describes the properties of different categories of data and the associations among them within a business or information system. In spite of its importance and usefulness, data modeling activity requires not only a lot of time and effort but also extensive experience and expertise. The data models for similar business areas are analogous to one another. Therefore, it is reasonable to reuse the already-developed data models if the target business area is similar to what we have already analyzed before. In this research, we develop a case-based reasoning system for data model reuse, which we shall call CB-DM Reuser (Case-Based Data Model Reuser). CB-DM Reuse consists of four subsystems : the graphic user interface to interact with end user, the data model management system to build new data model, the case base to store the past data models, and the knowledge base to store data modeling and data model reusing knowledge. We present the functionality of CB-DM Reuser and show how it works on real-life a, pp.ication.
In order to automatically determine the sequences of block assembly operations in shipbuilding, a process planning system using case-based reasoning (CBR) is developed. A block-assembly planning problem is modeled as a constraint satisfaction problem where the precedence relations between operations are considered constraints. The process planning system generates an assembly sequence by adapting information such as solutions and constraints collected from similar cases retrieved from the case base. In order to find similar cases, the process planning system first matches the parts of the problem and the parts of each case based on their roles in the assembly, and then it matches the relations related to the parts-pairs. The part involved in more operations are considered more important. The process planning system is applied to simple examples fur verification and comparison.
Test cases in the existing weapon system software were created manually by the tester analyzing the test items defined in the software integration test procedure. However, existing test case generation method has two limitations. First, the quality of test cases can vary depending on the tester's ability to analyze the test items. Second, excessive time and cost may be incurred in writing test cases. This paper proposes a method to automatically generate test cases based on the requirements model and specifications to overcome the limitations of the existing weapon system software test case generation. Generate test sequences and test data based on the use case event model, a model representing the requirements of the weapon system software, and the use case specification specifying the requirements. The proposed method was applied to 8 target models constituting the avionics control system, producing 30 test sequences and 8 test data.
Objectives: In this paper, two cases which showed the meaningful results on the patients' chief complaints were analyzed. The patients were treated with the Mahwang-Haengin-Gamcho-seokgo-tang herbal medication based on Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system. Methods: The patients were diagnosed based on Shanghanlun, disease pattern identification diagnostic system. In case 1, the change of menstruation cycle was noted and pre-menstrual discomforts were measured with Menstrual Distress Questionnaire(MDQ). In case 2, Quality of life questionnaire for adult Korean asthmatics (QLQAKA) was used to estimate the quality of the patient's life. Results: All the symptoms were improved after the Mahwang-Haengin-Gamcho-seokgotang treatment. In case 1, the menstruation cycle decreased to 30 days average. MDQ score decreased 143 to 103. In case 2, the change of the QLQAKA score as 1.647 average point is considered as a meaningful improvement. Conclusion: With great difference to a 'Symptom-Medicine' diagnostic system, the disease pattern identification diagnostic system seeks the pathologic pattern through the patient's whole life. More studies and multiple cases based on the diagnostic system are needed to prove this possibility later.
Due to the rapid growth of Internet, means of communication with customers in a traditional customer support environment such as telephone calls are being replaced by mainly e-mail in a Web-based customer support system. Although such a Web-based support is efficient and promises potential benefits for firms, including reduced transaction costs, reduced time, and high quality of support, there are some difficulties associated with responding to many types of customer’s inbound e-mails appropriately .As many types of e-mail are received, considerable attention is being paid to methods for increasing the efficiency of managing and responding e-mails. This research proposes an intelligent system for managing customer’s inbound e-mails in organizations by applying case based reasoning technique for responding to various customers' inbound e-mails more effectively. In this approach, a case is represented as a frame-typed data structure corresponding to an inbound e-mail, keywords, and its reply e-mail. In the retrieval procedure, keywords and affinity set is developed to index a case, and then the case is represented as a vector, a case vector. Also, cosines value is calculated to measure the similarity between a new inbound e-mail and the cases in the case base. In the adaptation procedure, we provide several adaptation strategies to adapt and modify the retrieved case. The strategies guide to make an outbound e-mail using product databases, databases for customer support, etc. Additionally, the Web-based system architecture is proposed to implement our methodology. The proposed methodology and system will be helpful for developing more efficient Web-based customer support.
This paper presents a computer aided process planning system integrating case-based reasoning and expert system for block assembly in shipbuilding. Expert rules are extracted from the case-base where cases are represented as a set of constraint-satisfaction problems. Rules for the expert system are extracted by generalizing the constraints. In generalizing the constraints, parts are generalized as variables or as part-types. The system was developed with CLIPS, an expert system shell. As more cases are collected, more rules will be extracted and the existing rules will be updated.
The main purpose of this study is to compare the traditional cost system and ABC(Activity Based Cost) system of clinical laboratory department in a hospital. The study subject was 296 services in clinical laboratory from March, 1997 to August, 1997. In a new costing system, cost for a lab test consist of direct cost element, activity based cost element, and allocated common cost element. In a traditional cost system, cost elements included direct cost element and indirect cost allocated based on test volumes The major findings of this research were as follows. 1. In the application of ABC system, total cost was analyzed as follows. Direct cost was 39.3% of total cost. Activity cost and allocation were 20.9% and 39.8%, respectively. The results of analysis to use traditional cost system were as follows. Direct cost was 39.3% and it was as same as the result of direct cost of ABC system. Indirect cost was 60.7%. 2. Activities of clinical laboratory of subject hospital were registration, pre-test operation, test, test result handling, delivery, culture, post-test operation, technical support, management support, and educational support. 3. The differences of the case of higher number of test case being carried out, the cost of ABC system was lower than the cost of traditional cost system. Otherwise in the case of lower number of test case being carried out, the rests have not been appropriately evaluated, and effective management were needed in clinical laboratory.
If a machine has some faults, we can detect them using vibration or noise signals. However some maintenance engineers who don\`t have export knowledge, need the help of vibration experts for diagnosing the machine. In this paper a case based reasoning (CBR) system is developed which is able to manipulate the past experiences of vibration diagnosis experts. In the CBR system, the maintenance engineers can retrieve the information form previous cases which are most similar to new problem s that they can solve new problem using solutions form the previous cases. In this paper, a new case retrieval method of CBR system using Petri net is proposed and also applied to diagnosis for electric motors as a practical problem.
It is needed to evaluate information systems actively which has already developed to improve future performance of the organization and foster the activation of information system. The introduction or development of information system also can bring about a organizational success. To measure exactly the organizational performance of information systems, it is needed to develop a new valuation model for a specific information system from a objective pint of view, as well as to equip a standard methodology using BSC measurement. The information system valuation from a objective point of view is of importance as the basic information for the decision to obtain information system. This paper takes aim at investigating a new information system valuation model and developing a information system valuation system using case-based reasoning for predicting currency value of information system in each organization. A new information system valuation system is developed as a web-enabling base. Using this, users are able to estimate the value of specific information system on a real time efficiently.
