  • This paper presents a cascade multilevel PWM rectifier without the isolation transformers for energy build-up at each inverter modules. The features and advantages of the proposed PWM rectifier can be summarized as follows; I) It realizes the high power high voltage AC/DC power conversion, 2) It uses no transformer which is bulky and heavy, 3) It has hybrid structure so that switching devices can be effectively utilized, 4) It produces high quality AC current even in high power high voltage applications, 5) The input power factor remains unity by simple modulation index control. The multilevel rectifier is analyzed by using the circuit DQ transformation whereby the characteristics and control equations are obtained. Finally, it will be shown that the system simulation reveals the validity of analyses.

  • In this paper, a cascade fuzzy control method is proposed, which presents a robustness of the effect of disturbances, and in which the number of rules of the controller increase linearly instead of exponentially with the number of input variables. The proposed fuzzy control method is composed of cascade structure. Each stage has a state and a change of state, and one consequent control variable, and previous consequent control variable is an input of next stage. Simulation of the proposed controller, which is applied to the linear and nonlinear system as SISO (single-input single-output) system, showed that the proposed control method has a good control performance and robustness of disturbances compared with a conventional fuzzy control method.

  • The emerging applications such as reliable back-up power system and renewable energy call for high boost U-n converter. The conventional topologies to get high output voltage are using flyback circuit, cascade converters, and coupled inductor DC-DC converter. They have the stress and loss related to the leakage energy which results in low efficiency Tn this paper, novel high boost converter is presented. It has a structure of cascade boost converter but only one switch. Therefore, drive circuit is simple and extreme duty ratio is eliminated. To verify the proposed circuit, theoretical analysis and experimental results has been done using a prototype power supply.

  • Compound semiconductor/CNTs composites have shown considerably improved efficiency improvement in photovoltaic devices, which is often attributed to two different factors. One is the formation of efficient electronic energy cascade structures. The other effect of CNTs on the performance of photovoltaic devices is the decrement of interfacial resistance. The interfacial resistances at n-type/ p-type materials and/or n-type materials/TCO electrode are reduced by an outstanding electrical property of CNTs. In addition to the effects of CNTs, we report the third reason for increment of efficiency in photovoltaic devices by CNT's well-known electrical field enhancement effects. The improved ${\beta}$ values in reverse-FE currents of CIGS electrode with SWNTs layers indicate the enhancement of electrical field in photovoltaic devices, which implies the acceleration of the electron transfer rate in the cell. Due to the formation of an efficient electronic energy cascade structure and the decrease of the interfacial resistance as well as the improvement of the electrical field in the photovoltaic devices, the power conversion efficiency of electrochemically deposited superstrate-type CIGS solar cells was increased 24.3% in the presence of SWNTs and showed 10.40% conversion efficiency.

  • This paper proposes the structure of a smart transformer to improve the performance of the 60Hz main power transformer for rolling stock. The proposed smart transformer is a kind of solid state transformer that consists of semiconductor switching devices and high frequency transformers. This smart transformer would have smaller size than the conventional 60Hz main transformer for rolling stock, making it possible to operate AC electrified track efficiently by power factor control. The proposed structure employs a cascade H-Bridge converter to interface with the high voltage AC single phase grid as the rectifier part. Each H-Bridge converter in the rectifier part is connected by a Dual-Active-Bridge (DAB) converter to generate an isolated low voltage DC output source of the system. Because the AC voltage in the train system is a kind of medium voltage, the number of the modules would be several tens. To control the entire smart transformer, the inner DC voltage of the modules, the AC input current, and the output DC voltage must be controlled instantaneously. In this paper, a control algorithm to operate the proposed structure is suggested and confirmed through computer simulation.

  • Cholesteryl pentanoate $(C_{32}O_2H_{54})$ is orthorhombic, space group $P2_12_12_1$, with a = 21.930(3), b = 21.404(3), c = 6.419(5) $\AA$, Z = 4, V = 3012.8(5)$\AA$$^3$, $D_c$ = 1.04 g$cm^{-3}$, ${\lambda}(Mo\; K{\alpha}$ = 0.71069 $\AA$, $\mu$ = 0.58 $cm^{-1}$, F(000) = 1048, T = 298, R = 0.086 for 1502 unique observed reflections with I > 1.0 $\sigma$ (I). The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by cascade diagonal least-squares refinement. The C-H bond lengths and the methyl groups are fixed and refined as their ideal geometry. A comparison with other cholesteryl esters gives normal structure for the tetracyclic ring, while the tail regions of the side chain and the ester group which stands on end, show a variation from their normal values, presumably due to thermal effects. The molecules are stacked together by non-bonded van der Waals forces with the shortest intermolecular distance of 3.529 $\AA$.

  • The large camber angle theory of turbomachine blade of compressor has been developed recently for the two-dimensional flow by Hawthorn, et al. However, in the above theory it was assumed that the fluid was incompressible and inviscid, and the blades had no thickness. In this study, the flow in a blade cascade being mounted in parallel fashion with blade of arbitrary thickness is studied in order to determine the effects of the camber angle on the performance characteristic of the blade section under the consideration of compressibility and viscosity of fluid. The panel method is used for potential flow analysis. The flow in the boundary-layer is obtained by solving the integral boundary-layer structure through the laminar, transitional , and turbulent flow using the pressure field determined from the potential flow. And then the viscous-inviscid interaction scheme is used for interaction of these two flows. For the determination of the variation in the outlet fluid angle influenced by deviation in cascade flow, the superposition method which is used for single foil is introduced in this analysis. By the introduction of this method, the effects of the deviation on outlet fluid angle and the resulting fluid angle are made to adjust for oneself through the calculation. As the result of this study, the blade of large camber angle, large incidence angle, large pitch-chord ratio has large viscous and compressible effect than those of small camber angle. Lift force increase as camber angle increases, but above 60.deg. of camber angle, lift force decrease as camber angle increases. But drag force increases linearly with camber angle increases in the entire region.
