  • Low road lighting is a lighting device that complements the shortcomings of existing pillar-type street lights. It is a lighting device that emits light from the side of the road surface and adjusts the luminance of the road surface like a light carpet. In this paper, to achieve full commercialization, we analyzed the luminance of the installed road surface and studied whether lighting could replace existing road lighting. In this study, the LMK (Luminance Measurement Camera) LABSOFT program was used to measure and analyze the surface luminance of road lighting, and the RELUX program was used to evaluate and analyze the simulation performance to determine light-based lighting conditions. A study was conducted to determine whether replacing pillar-type road lighting with low-level road lighting in a real environment would ensure comfortable and safe night vision for drivers at night.

  • Black hairy tongue is a benign medical condition, which is characterized by elongated filiform lingual papillae, with a typical carpet-like appearance on the dorsum of the tongue. We describe the case of a 70-year-old Korean female with black hairy tongue, who complained of black hairy tongue accompanied by xerostomia. The patient was treated with Jibaekjihwang-tang-gagambang and electric acupuncture for 13 days. Black hairy tongue was evaluated by its visual appearance and by calculating hue-saturation-brightness (HSB) and red-green-blue (RGB) values of images of the tongue using a photo-edit program. Salivary flow rate (SFR) was evaluated to evaluate oral dryness. After 13 days of treatment, the black fur disappeared, and the brightness and RGB values of the black fur increased. In addition, the SFR increased. We conclude that Korean medicine could be the treatment choice for black hairy tongue.

  • While a dash panel component, close to passengers, plays a very important role to protect heat and noise from a power train, it is also a main path that transfers vibration energy and eventually radiates acoustic noise into the cavity. Therefore, it is important to provide optimal design schemes incorporating sound packages such as a dash isolation pad and a floor carpet, as well as structures. The present study is the extension of the previous investigation how design variables affect sound radiation, which was carried out using the simple plate and framed system. A novel FE-SEA hybrid simulation model is used for this study. The system taken into account is a dash panel component of a sedan vehicle, which includes front pillars, front side members, a dash panel and corresponding sound packages. Design variables such as panel thicknesses and sound packages are investigated how they are related to two main NVH indexes, sound radiation power(i.e. structure-borne) and sound transmission loss(i.e. air borne). In the viewpoint of obtaining better NVH performance, it is shown that these two indexes do not always result in same tendencies of improvement, which suggests that they should be dealt with independently and are also dependent on frequency regions.

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were: (a) to assess indoor air quality such as $PM_{10}$, $CO_2$ concentrations in child daycare centers, (b) to compare the levels with each standard, and (c) to identify teachers' awareness of indoor air quality in child care centers. Methods: Data were obtained from seventeen child daycare centers and ninety-eight teachers in a district of Seoul, from April 3 to May 12, 2009. Collected data were analyzed by SAS 8.2, and descriptive statistics, $x^2$ test, student t-test, Pearson correlation analysis, and Spearman rank correlation were used. Results: The mean of $PM_{10}$ and $CO_2$ level were $50.3{\mu}g/m^3$ and 792.1ppm. Sixteen child daycare centers (94.2%) met the guidelines of the $PM_{10}$ level, so did thirteen child daycare centers (76.5%) in the $CO_2$ level. $CO_2$ levels were significantly low in child daycare centers using air cleaners than those do not using them (t=-6.03, p<.001). Types of child daycare centers were significantly correlated to the levels of $CO_2$, which public child daycare centers were low in $CO_2$ levels than those of private child daycare centers (t=-2.54, p=.013). There was no significant correlation between teachers' awareness and management attitude of indoor air quality while teachers' awareness of indoor air quality significantly raised the frequency of carpet cleaning. Methods of cleaning routines were significantly correlated with $PM_{10}$, and $CO_2$ levels. Conclusion: The $PM_{10}$ and $CO_2$ concentrations in child daycare centers were satisfactory. Those conditions are affected by general characteristics of child daycare centers and teachers' attitude regarding management of indoor air quality.

  • In this study, I investigate the formation process of the American presbyterian missionary architecture in Cheong Ju area from 1900 to 1945, which we may think 'the part of Korean modern architecture'. I have examined and analyzed the 18 buildings for the sake of the interpretation with the words of formation process and characteristics . And I can put my idea in order as follows. Firstly, the formation process is 1) buy and modify a Korean style (thatch or tile roofed) building for their need and use it as a gate quaters or house, church, hospital, school, book store, 2) build a Korean style (tile roofed) building and use it-house, hospital, school, 3) build a Western style (timber structured and zinc roofed) building and use it- church, 4) build a Western style (masonry structured and tile or zinc roofed) building and use ithouse, church, school and hospital. Secondly, the characteristics is 1) In the Korean style building, the missionaries change into the function to match with their purpose. they modify the Korean style timber structure by influx of building material-brick, glass, carpet etc. they occupy into the Korean existing residential area. 2) In the Western style building, the missionaries build the house correspond with their living pattern. they build the church with the eclectic of Western and Korean timber frame. and also build the house and hospital with the eclectic of Western and Korean masonry structure. their building located in the isolate hill separated from the existing Korean residential area.

  • With increasing numbers of immigrant workers in Korea, the supply of socially and culturally acceptable housing has become an important issue. The purpose of this study was to analyze the state of Goryo-in housing and domestic living conditions in metropolitan areas of Korea. This study will present essential information directly relevant to the establishment of practical housing policy for Goryo-in in Korea. Furthermore, data collected and analyzed here will enable comparative investigation with Goryo-ins who live in Russia and Central Asia. Using ethnographic methodologies, we examined 20 Goryo-in households in relation to their usage of domestic space. The following conclusion were established; 1). The most popular L D K(Living Dining Kitchen)type consisted of kitchen plus one or two bedrooms. The majority of households lived in quarters with separated kitchen and living room areas. 2). Most households had a washing machine in the bathroom due to a lack of space, and they regarded the bathtub and the drain hole of the bathroom as very necessary. The Goryo-ins interviewed preferred quarters with separate bathroom and toilet areas, in order to allow simultaneous use. 3). Their most preferred seating style was chairs, while making Kimchi at home was not very popular. 4). All respondents took their shoes off and wore slippers at home, while also indicating a preference for designated shoes space at the entrance to the house. 5) Half of the households had a carpet or mat in the bedroom or living room, both for keeping warm and aesthetic reasons. 6). All households had modified Ondol heating system and demonstrated satisfaction with this. The majority of Goryo-ins interviewed had a different living style compared to households in Russia and Central Asia which were related to less favorable economic conditions in Korea.

  • Cryptosporidium is an important pathogen causing gastrointestinal disease in snakes and is distributed worldwide. The main objectives of this study were to detect and identify Cryptosporidium species in captive snakes from exotic pet shops and snake farms in Thailand. In total, 165 fecal samples were examined from 8 snake species, boa constrictor (Boa constrictor constrictor), corn snake (Elaphe guttata), ball python (Python regius), milk snake (Lampropeltis triangulum), king snake (Lampropeltis getula), rock python (Python sebae), rainbow boa (Epicrates cenchria), and carpet python (Morelia spilota). Cryptosporidium oocysts were examined using the dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)-modified acid-fast staining and a molecular method based on nested-PCR, PCR-RFLP analysis, and sequencing amplification of the SSU rRNA gene. DMSO-modified acid-fast staining revealed the presence of Cryptosporidium oocysts in 12 out of 165 (7.3%) samples, whereas PCR produced positive results in 40 (24.2%) samples. Molecular characterization indicated the presence of Cryptosporidium parvum (mouse genotype) as the most common species in 24 samples (60%) from 5 species of snake followed by Cryptosporidium serpentis in 9 samples (22.5%) from 2 species of snake and Cryptosporidium muris in 3 samples (7.5%) from P. regius.

  • Six steers of each breed type, Hereford ($H{\times}H$), Brahman ($B{\times}B$) and Brahman $\times$ Hereford ($B{\times}H$) were ranked on liveweight and allocated to three treatments, basal hay diet (Basal), Basal plus 1 kg/head/day of cottonseed meal (Basal + CSM) and Basal plus 1 kg/head/day of formaldehyde-treated sunflower meal, $Norpro^{(R)}$ (Basal + NPO). The hay was made from a pasture based predominantly on carpet grass (Axonopus affinus) growing in subtropical New South Wales, and had an estimated organic matter digestibility of 52% and a nitrogen (N) content of 7.8 g/kg dry matter (DM). The steers were accustomed to the Basal diet over 15 days and supplements offered over 42 days. Intake of the basal hay diet by steers was not increased by supplementation. When intakes were adjusted for differences between breed types in liveweight the $B{\times}H$ steers ate 25% (P<0.01) more hay than $H{\times}H$ steers (6.3 V 5.0 kg/head/d) and $B{\times}B$ steers ate 8% less hay than $H{\times}H$ steers. Supplementation significantly (P<0.01) increased liveweight gain during the experiment, being ($g/head/d\;{\pm}\;s.e.d.$) 290, 770 and $795{\pm}118$ respectively for Basal, Basal + NPO and Basal + CSM. There was no difference between supplements in the liveweight gain of steers nor between steers of different genotypes. However, there was a significant interaction (P<0.01) between breeds and treatments such that $B{\times}B$ steers gained most on the basal diet but least of the breed types when supplemented. The estimated non-degradeable fraction of N in the protein meals was 58.5 and 44.5%, respectively for NPO and CSM. Both meals increased (P<0.01) plasma urea N and rumen ammonia N concentrations.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the variations in gait parameters according to arm slings used in healthy adults. Twenty healthy adults (9 males, 11 females) participated in this study and walked at self-selected speeds on a GAITRite-instrumented carpet. They were randomly assigned conditions: without an arm sling, a care sling, a Harris hemi arm sling, a CVA sling, and a Rolyan humeral cuff sling. The following gait parameters were analyzed: the temporo-spatial parameters of gait velocity, swing phase, single support, cadence. In the comparison of parameters in each trial, step length was statistically significantly changed(p=.002). The right step length was significantly decreased in the Harris hemi arm sling and increased in the Rolyan humeral cuff sling when compared with no sling. This study found that several different types arm slings varied gait pattern in healthy adults.

  • Weight loss treatment of a fiber leads an improvement of its handle and drape properties. Hydrolysis of a fiber is commonly known as a method to reduce its weight of 5-40%. Most of the studies on the weight loss treatment are mainly based on polyester fibers and there has been almost no study on the weight reduction of nylon fibers. In this study, however, in order to develop a use of nylon 6 fiber for the industrial applications such as toothbrush, underwear, carpet and more, weight loss treatment of a nylon 6 fiber was carried out. Under various treatment conditions, morphological analysis were done to observe the change in the structure of the surface and analysis. From the observation of formic acid treated nylon 6 fiber, there were many etched and deformed morphologies. Thermal and crystalline properties were analyzed to find the changes in the crystal structure caused by the weight loss treatment. There were little differences in the crystalline properties of nylon 6 fiber by formic acid treatment. Tensile strength of nylon 6 fiber decreases with acid concentration. The FITR peak intensity of the amide bond decreases with formic acid concentration.
