Experience of scaling was indicated to be averagely 38.8%. 2. The oral health status perceived by workers was the highest with 40.5% in 'having something abnormal'. A problem was the highest with 28.0% in 'dental caries'. A cause was indicated to be 42.6% in 'because of being naturally weak in tooth or the gum.' Also, as for factors of absence and early leaving, a pain was the highest with 64.7%. 5. Workers' oral health practice level was the highest with 2.85 points in 'Brushing teeth before going to bed'. Conclusions : Synthesizing these findings, the oral management could be known to be made negligently in the workers with the older age, the lower academic background, and the lower income. The institutional foundation is considered to be necessary for which the oral health education can be efficiently performed in addition to a need of periodic oral examination for these classes.

  • It's basically meant to make a contribution to the promotion of the oral health of shipbuilding workers and to the improvement of oral health education planning, industrial oral health policy setting and the related system, as it seems that the working environments of shipbuilding workers are very harsh due to the unique characteristics of their working process. The subjects in this study were the workers who were selected by convenience sampling from shipbuilding companies and their subcontractors in South Jeolla Province that numbered 10. The workers were surveyed to determine the relationship between their oral health education experience and oral health awareness, and the findings of the study were as follows: Out of the 310 workers investigated, 89.4 percent had no experience to receive oral health education, those who had no experience to receive oral health education fell behind in terms of oral health knowledge, awareness, concern and perception of oral health importance, and there was close correlation among their oral health knowledge, awareness, concern and perception of oral health importance. Those without oral health education experience cited lack of opportunities as the reason, the workers preferred to receive education about the prevention and treatment of dental caries, and their favorite educational method was lectures given by dentists, the workers who had oral health education experience had a more intention to receive oral health education than the others who hadn't.

  • Preformed stainless steel crown is an useful restorative material for the treatment of badly broken down primary teeth. However iatrogenic damage to adjacent teeth might occur during the process of tooth reduction. Such damages might lead to plaque accumulation and increase the risks of caries initiation. Especially the damage can make a problem in the first permanent molar. Purpose of this study was to investigate an iatrogenic damage to the first permanent molar during preparation of second primary molar for preformed stainless steel crown. Twelve children restored with preformed stainless steel crown to second primary molar were selected. Contact areas were separated with separation elastics, and tooth surfaces were cleaned. After taking negative impression using vinylpolysiloxane impression material, the specimens were examined by scanning electron microscope for the detection of iatrogenic damage. The prevalence of iatrogenic damage was 66.7% and variable appearances and So we can suggest that when preparing teeth for preformed stainless steel crown, we should be careful about adjacent teeth not to make an iatrogenic damage.

  • Treacher Collins syndrome(TCS) is a rare, incurable condition occurring in approximately 1 of 25,000 to 50,000 births. It may occur as a spontaneous mutation out of genetically normal parents or it may be manifested as an autosomal dominant pattern. TCS is characterized by facial deformities such as, underdevelopment of the maxilla, mandible and zygoma, malocclusion, bilateral deformities of auricles, antimongoloid slant of the palpebral fissures. The syndrome is often associated with cleft lip and palate, ear malformations and hearing loss, short stature, and anomalies of the heart and skeleton. Respiratory difficulty associated with air way obstruction may also be observed, and there is considerable difficulty in airway management during general anesthesia. It is necessary that dentists provide safe dental treatments and guidelines to TCS patients by providing adequate understanding about the characteristics of the syndrome and proper ways of managements. The purpose of this study is to report the dental and medical characteristics of the patient who visited the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Yonsei University for multiple dental caries treatment and to review the literatures of TCS.

  • The term 'triple tooth' is used to describe a rare dental abnormality in which three teeth appear to be joined. The literature contains many reports of joined primary teeth; most cases have involved, however, the joining of two teeth, and only rarely three teeth. Triple tooth has clinical problems such as dental caries, esthetic problems, malocclusions, and periodontal problems. Therefore, it may require multi-disciplinary approach. The present study describes rare case of triple tooth between maxillary primary central and lateral incisors and a supernumerary tooth. An one-year, eleven-month old girl was seen for evaluation of swelling in the labial gingiva above a right maxillary triple tooth. She experienced traumatic dental injury in that area three weeks ago. Intraoral examination revealed an abscess and fistula in the region of the triple tooth. A radiographic examination showed that right lateral incisor was missing. Endodontic treatment and composite resin restoration was performed on the triple tooth. After follow-ups of 7 months period, there were no marked complications.

  • The purpose of this study was to observe the demineralization effects of commercial drinks on bovine enamel. 12 bovine teeth without dental caries were divided into 3 experimental groups (n = 9) and control groups (n = 3). All the samples immersed in beverages maintained by $37^{\circ}C$ in incubator respectively. The differences of surface microhardness values(${\Delta}VHN$) between before and after 45 hours treatment were $166.97{\pm}51.69$(in Coca-cola), $116.26{\pm}20.81$(in Gatorade), $77.89{\pm}55.88$(in Hite), and $23.44{\pm}29.97$(in Jeju SamDaSoo). Morphological changes by scanning electron microscope were indicated that a sports drink cause significant enamel demineralization effects on the bovine enamel surface among four beverages.

  • In order to deliver fixed partial denture to a patient successfully, dentist must take into many considerations beforehand. Patient's occlusal pattern should be fully understood before delivering any type of prosthesis, whether it's canine guidance or group function occlusion. In order to do so, movement of mandible should be recorded precisely. Introduced by Meyers in 1933, functionally generated path technique (FGP) has been successfully used to record mandibular movement with various materials, such as wax, and utilize it in fabricating precise prosthesis. In the following cases, patients showed secondary caries or endodontic-periodontic lesion on maxillary molars. Root canal treatment and subgingival curettage were done for each patient. Since the long term prognosis of each tooth was questionable, lateral force should be minimized. In order to do so, FGP technique was used to record mandibular movements precisely. Instead of using conventional plaster impression, intra-oral scanning of wax tracing was done to fabricate prosthesis efficiently. After delivery of fixed partial denture, favorable outcome was obtained.
