  • This study is aimed at analyzing the characteristics of adaptation to college life among freshmen of D University by utilizing the DEU-GRIT test. To achieve this, we examined differences in level of college life adaptation according to gender and major, and explored the characteristics of college life adaptation among college freshmen who were clustered based on their level of academic, social, emotional, and career adaptation, which is an important factor in adaptation to college life. Moreover, based on the DEU-GRIT test standards, we also explored the characteristics of their college life adaptation by sorting out low level groups of freshmen with difficulties adapting. The results demonstrated that male students had a higher level of emotional adaptation than female students, and that science and technology majors had higher levels of academic and emotional adaptation than students in the humanities and society majors. Furthermore, a cluster analysis based on 4 factor levels of college life adaptation showed that cluster 1 had a high level of adaptability to all factors, but cluster 3 had a low level of adaptability to all factors. Moreover, while cluster 2 showed a high level of emotional adaptation, cluster 4 showed a low level of emotional adaptation. On the other hand, a lower-standard group of DEU-GRIT tests showed that the level of academic adaptation and social adaptation was higher among female students than among male students. However, the overall level of college life, academic, and emotional adaptation were higher among science and technology students than among those majoring in humanities and social studies. In addition, a cluster analysis based on the level of 4 factors of college life adaptation of lower-standard groups showed that cluster 1 of the lower-standard groups had a high level of emotional adaptation, while cluster 2 of the lower-standard groups had a low level of emotional and career adaptation and a high level of academic and social adaptation. Also, cluster 3 of the lower-standard groups was found to have low levels of all factors, and cluster 4 of the lower-standard groups showed low levels of social and emotional adaptation and high levels of academic and career adaptation. This indicates that, in terms of social and emotional adaptation among freshmen, participation in psychological counseling programs tailored according to gender is necessary and, regarding the major, relative emotional intervention is required due to the high and low expectations of job prospects. In conclusion, the emotional and social adaptation to college life among the lower-level groups is likely to serve as a protective factor for college life adaptation, suggesting that specific intervention should be contemplated.

The main results of the survey and analysis of 1,177 four-year college students located in Gyeonggi area are as follows. First, the percentage of college students' smartphone overdependence was very high at 34.1%. Second, there was a significant difference in prevalence of depression between the smartphone overdependence group(18.7%) and the general user group(11%). Third, self-efficacy showed a negative correlation with smartphone overdependence. The smartphone overdependence group showed significantly lower score in self-efficacy and self-regulation efficacy, confidence, and task difficulty preference than the general user group. Fourth, self-efficacy worked as a mediating variable in the relationship between depression and smartphone overdependence. In other words, the effect of depression on smartphone overdependence tended to decrease as self-efficacy rose in the relationship. Finally, we discussed the development of programs to support career and psychological counseling of university students.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the work and turnover of dental hygienists in a bid to find out problems with them and feasible reform measures. The subjects in this study were 383 dental hygienists, on whom a self-administered survey was conducted in May and June, 2010. Concerning the work of the dental hygienists by the type of dental institution, the largest group placed importance on treatment cooperation as the major duty. Both of the dental clinic(54.3%) and the dental hospital employees(30.0%) faced the most difficulties in providing treatment counseling. As to the work awareness of the dental hygienists by career, the greatest group gave weight to treatment cooperation as the major duty, and the gaps in that aspect were statistically significant (p<.05). In dental clinics, working conditions (27.2%) and in dental hospitals, salary increase (37.1%) should be given top priority for improvement. The most common reasons for which dental hygienists changed theirs jobs were significantly different between dental clinics and dental hospitals: discord with supervisors (39.3%) in dental clinics and dissatisfaction with the salary (28.6%) in dental hospitals. The difference between the two results were statistically significant (p<.05). These findings indicate that independent working and improvement in working conditions of dental hygienists are urgently needed.

  • Objectives The goal of the present study was to elucidate the characteristics of behavior problems in Sasang typology with child patients. Methods Subjects consisted of 176 (95 boys, 81 girls) children from 36 months to 83 months were diagnosed by two clinical experts in pediatrics and Sasang medicine. There were 22 So-Yang types, 141 Tae-Eum types, and 13 So-Eum types. The behavior problems were measured with Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) and ANOVA (analysis of variance) was used for the analysis. Results There were no significant differences between Sasang types among subject's age (F(2, 173)=.190, p=.827) and sex (${\chi}^2$(2, N=176)=1.639, p=.441) as well as their mother's age (F(2, 169)=.060, p=.942) and education level (${\chi}^2$(4, N=172)=.394, p=.983) and their father's age (F(2, 168)=1.184, p=.309) and education level (${\chi}^2$(4, N=172)=5.664, p=.226). So-Yang types ($50.14{\pm}22.35$; $17.27{\pm}8.60$) had higher scores than Tae-Eum types ($38.74{\pm}21.32$; $12.62{\pm}7.98$) in total problems and internalizing problems score of the CBCL, respectively. More specifically, So-Yang types ($5.90{\pm}2.81$; $3.77{\pm}1.90$) had significantly higher depression/anxiety and somatization subscale score than Tae-Eum types ($4.04{\pm}2.73$; $2.30{\pm}2.12$). Scores of So-Yang types were significantly higher than those of CBCL clinical group in depression/anxiety and somatization subscales. Conclusions There were significant differences between child outpatients with different Sasang types, which would be taken into consideration concerning development of Sasang type diagnosis in addition to parenting, treatment, and prevention for children.

As for perception of dental coordinator, all the dental hygienists were aware of that occupation, and most of the students(81.9%) were cognizant of it(p<0.001). Concerning the necessity of that occupation, the students who felt the need for that(94.8%) outnumbered the dental hygienists who did(85.2%)(p<0.05). 65.9 percent of the dental hygienists and 84.5 percent of the students looked upon a dental hygienist as the best occupation that also could serve as a dental coordinator(p<0.01). 3.
