This study was conducted to identify the current situation of home care nursing research and to propose future research in the area of home care nursing in Korea. The design was a retrospective descriptive study based on 171 studies. The studies were collected from nursing academic magazines, the national library web site and dissertations on home care. The data were classified according to the independent and dependent variables which were represented in the research title. The final category classification was defined by considering the research objectives and content as found in the 171 studies. Eight categories were created to describe the results of home care nursing research in Korea. They included: home care needs. home care services. home care costs. development of home care programs and equipment. management of home care services. effectiveness of home care services, development of an educational curriculum for home care, and recognition of home care services. Based on our research we have identified other future research areas that need to be developed such as community needs assessment, standards and guidelines for home care nursing, quality assurance and quality improvement for controlling home care quality, home care informatics. and a system of home care cost and ethics.
Purpose : This study aimed to determine whether the Korean Patient Classification System for Neonatal Care Nurses (KPCSN) properly measures neonatal intensive care needs and to compare the scale's results with those of the Workload Management System for Critical Care Nurses (WMSCN). Methods : Data were collected from the medical records of 157 patients who were admitted to the NICU of a university hospital, in D city. Two types of patient classification systems were applied to investigate the total points and distributions to investigate the total points and distributions by categories and compare relationships and classification groups between two scales. Finally, the score distribution among the classification groups was analyzed when the KPCSN was applied. Results : Scores on the KPCSN for the feeding, monitoring, and measure categories were 19.16±15.40, 16.88±3.52, and 9.13±4.78, respectively. Classification group distribution of the KPCSN was as follows : 1.9% for the first group, 24.2% for the second group, 58% for the third group, and 15.9% for the fourth group. The classification group distribution of the WMSCN was as follows: 35.7% for the third group, 61.1% for the fourth group, and 3.2% for the fifth group. Finally, the scores by categories were analyzed according to KPCSN classification group, and the characteristics of the patients' nursing needs were identified for each classification group. Conclusion : Results of this study indicate that the KPCSN effectively measures feeding needs, which account for many nursing activities in neonatal intensive care. Comparisons between the KPCSN and WMSCN classification group scores and distribution ratios verified the correlation and significance of nursing requirements.

This study was designed to investigate the family burden, family home care needs and to identify the relationship between family burden and home care needs for families of psychiatric in-patients. The subjects for this study were 104 family members of psychiatric in-patients at two private hospitals and one municipal hospital. The data were collected during the period from February 1. 1993 to March 30. 1993. The questionnaire developed by Montgomery to measure the family burden was used as modified by the research team for this study. The questionnaire was developed by Garrad to measure the home care need was also used as modifed by the research team. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOV A and Pearson Correlation Coeffcient. with the SPSS program. The Result of this study can be summarized as follows ; 1. For perceived family burden, the meanscore as measured by the guestionnaire was 70.6 of a possible to total of 110. 2. For home care need. the meanscore as measured by the questionnaire was 44.8 fo a possible total of 66. 3. The results showed a higher score for cases from the municipal hospital for family burden and a higher score for cases at the private hospitals for home care need. 4. Ther was a statistically significantly higher score on family burden for female family member (T =-2.77. P<.05) and for bereaved family members. (F=2.862. p<.05) 5. There was a statistically significantly higher score (F= 10.3535, P<.001) for family burden when the hospitalization period was between 7~ 12 months and a statistically significantly higher score (F =7.679.P<.001) for home care need when the hospitalization period was over 37 months. 6. Ther was a significant correlation between family burden and home care need. (r=.4002, P<.05) The conclusion that can be drawn from this study is that addressing home care needs would contribute to reduce family burden.
This study examined the time spent, the satisfaction level and the policy needs regarding child care by mother's employment status in Incheon. For this study, mothers with at least one child under the age of five were analyzed. The major results of this study include: First, unemployed mothers spent more time for child care than employed mothers. Second, unemployed mothers had significantly higher levels of satisfaction with child care than employed mothers, but only in the domain of physical care. Finally, the policy needs among mothers differed by their employment status while the financial support need for using a child care facility was high for both groups. This may be due in part to the increased likelihood of sending their child to a facility as their child ages, and the high cost of child care in Incheon. Based on the findings, policy implications are discussed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the need for hospice care programs in families of patients with cancer. Method: The study surveyed 98 families who were taking care of patients with cancer. This survey was conducted from August 2004 to October 2004 at two general hospitals in Seoul. The data were collected through a self-reporting questionnaire of 22 items. The items were classified into five areas by factor analysis to identify the construct validity. The reliability of the tool was established by Cronbach's alpha as .93 and the data collected were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA. Results: 1) The degree of need for hospice care of the subjects showed a high average of $3.26({\pm}3.7$). The need for 'emotional care of patients showed the highest mean' (M=3.47), 'management of terminal physical symptoms' (M=3.34), 'control of secondary physical problems' (M =3.26), 'acceptance of the family's difficulty' (M=3.12), 'spiritual care for preparing for death' (M=2.96), respectively. 2) With respect to the demographic characteristics of the subjects, there were statistically significant differences in hospice care needs, according to the onset of diagnosis (F=3.110, p=.030). Conclusion: Hospice care must be provided considering the needs of families of patients with cancer. In this sense, this country's needs as well as hospice nurses' higher concern and support for hospice care of patients require further education and program development to meet the current demands.
Purpose: Long-term care facilities have a responsibility to provide care service that enables residents to maintain their maximal functional capacity and quality of life. Also their needs must be reflected to the service programs. In oder to provide an adequate service, we should assess the elderly's physical, psychological and social health status and the need. In addition to this, the long-term care facilities must be defined clearly by the type of services. This study would contribute to conduct appropriate services in public long-term care policy for the older population in the future. This study would provide informations of long-term care facilities' services and older persons' needs for long-term care. Method: To achieve this objectives, this paper investigates the types, service programs of long-term care institutes and job descriptions of workers. The subjects were consisted of 150 long-term care institutes. 150 institutes of long-term care facilities were drawn from all over the country by a nonrandom, convenience sampling. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, $x^2$-test using SPSS program. The instruments of this study were self-reported questionnaires for long-term care institutes. The data were collected from March 1, 2004 to may 31, 2004. Results: Service programs of long-term care institutes were not enough for residents' demands. The job descriptions among nurse, social worker and physical therapist were not clearly defined. The nurse's main role was medication and checking vital sign(49.7%), that of social worker's was observation and supervising (31.2%). The most significant problems were lacking of diverse service programs for residents. Conclusion: Considering these findings and conclusion, the needs of long-term care services should be provided by individual physical and psychological level. And the professional manpower for elderly should be educated in multi disciplines.

Methods: We recruited 46 nurses from a home care center in the catholic parish of the C medical center from April 4th to June 8th, 2007. Results: The highest needs were 'assessment and diagnosis of the problem', 'management of hypertension & diabetes patients', 'counseling of the patient', and 'counseling of major caregiver and family problems'. Therapeutic nursing showed the highest needs in bedsore care. Nurses want hospital medical records available through the ubiquitous health care system. Conclusion: Home care services are supported from the agency, with high needs in assessing and diagnosing the problem, counseling, and managing of hypertension & diabetes patients. Education and public relations efforts on the U-healthcare system should improve system awareness.
This study was designed to clarify how nurses and nursing students perceive their clients' needs for spiritual nursing care, it's practices, and problems. The purpose was to suggest directions for the development of spiritual nursing practice. The major findings are as follows : Respondents primarily perceived spiritual nursing as nursing care designd to help terminally ill patients accept death. Many of the respondents showed a high level of awareness of spiritual nursing care and its necessity. Few of them, however, bad actual experience in spiritual care. Those with experience in spiritual nursing care tend of take either a religious approach or perceived it as the therapeutic use of the self. The greatest problem related to the practice of spiritual care was found to be lack of time. Most of nurses and nursing students were found to be well aware of the needs for spiritual nursing care but were hindered from practising it because of the lack of time. To resolve the problem it was recommended that the scope of nursing practice be readjusted and that pre-and in-service programs should be developed to further heighten nursing students' interest in spiritual nursing care.

The purpose of this study was to identify job frequency and the training needs of dieticians in elderly health care facilities. This study consisted of dieticians working in elderly health care facilities with a capacity of over 50 elderly. Survey questionnaires were distributed to 190 dieticians through the mail and 106 dieticians (55.8%) participated in this study. The results of the survey showed that dieticians in elderly health care facilities frequently performed the following job: work management, safety and sanitation management, purchase management, human resource management, finance management, nutrition management, and marketing management. The job frequency in safety and sanitation management (p<0.05) and nutrition management (p<0.01) areas were significantly different by the number of dieticians. Safety and sanitation management and menu management were considered job areas that needed further training and education. Dieticians in elderly health care facilities responded that the following jobs should require not only training but are also frequently performed: safety and sanitation management, menu management, work management, and human resource management. Thus, based on the results of this study, continuous training programs in these fields should be offered to satisfy the needs of dieticians.
