The Enhanced Physico-Chemical and Electrochemical Properties for Surface Modified NiO Cathode for Molten Carbonate Fuel Cells (MCFCs)

  • The nickel oxide, the most widely used cathode material for the molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC), has several disadvantages including NiO dissolution, poor mechanical strength, and corrosion phenomena during MCFC operation. The surface modification of NiO with lanthanum maintains the advantages, such as performance and stability, and suppresses the disadvantages of NiO cathode because the modification results in the formation of $LaNiO_3$ phase which has high conductivity, stability, and catalytic activity. As a result, La-modified NiO cathode shows low NiO dissolution, high degree of lithiation, and mechanical strength, and high cell performance and catalytic activity in comparison with the pristine NiO. These enhanced physico-chemical and electrochemical properties and the durability in marine environment allow MCFC to marine application as a auxiliary propulsion system.

좌제기제가 탄산리튬의 흡수에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Suppository Bases on Absorption of Lithium Carbonate)

  • This paper was designed to investigate the influence of different suppository bases on both the rectal absorption and dissolution rate of lithium carbonate, and to compare bioavailability from rectal administration with that from oral administration. The dissolution rates were in such order as PEG 4000, surfactant A (Witepsol 15+sodium lauryl sulfate), surfactant B (Witepsol 15+cholic acid), Witepsol 15 and cacao butter. Among various suppository bases, the blood level of lithium carbonate after rectal administration was increased in the following order: surfactant A>surfactant B>PEG 4000>Witepsol 15>cacao butter. When it comes to compare oral with rectal administration in AUC values, surfactants and PEG 4000 showed similar blood levels to oral administration, but lipophilic bases such as Witepsol 15 and cacao butter showed far lower blood level than oral administration. Peak time in oral administration was 2 hrs, but those in rectal administration using various suppository bases were $6{\sim}8$ hrs.

고품위 형석의 신속 용량법 (Rapid Volumetric Assay of Fluorspar Concentrate)

  • A volumetric method of the determination of calcium carbonate and calcium fluoride in fluorspar concentrate is described. The carbonate is converted into solution by treatment of the sample in HNO$_3$-acetone (l% by volume) mixture, and the fluoride by treating the residue with H$_3BO_3$-HCl mixture. The calcium in the solution is determined volumetrically using EDTA standard solution. The selective dissolution of calcium carbonate by HNO$_3$-acetone mixture is superior to Bidtel's acetic method and little correction for the dissolution of calcium fluoride is needed. Triethanolamine is found to be superior to KCN in masking heavy metal ions.

  • Antacid granules were prepared by agglomeration and powder method in high speed agitation type granulator. The copmositions of the test antacids were sodium bicarbonate nad magnesium carbonate nad a coating material was powder of polyvinylacetal diethyl-aminocacetate (AEA) and an additive material was talc powder. The dissolution characteristics of base from the antacid granules were investigated to evaluate neutralization capacity of hydrochloric profile of base and neutralization behavior, the following results were obtained : The prepared granules showed a pH-dependent dissolution pattern of a base. The dissolution profile of a base was varied with addition of talc powder as well as coating amount of AEA. The relationship between the ratio of dissolution retarded time for 20% and 10% AEA. The relationship between the ratio of dissolution retarded time for 20% AEA coated granules $\theta_{20}/\theta_{10}$ and the diameter reduction of the granules was explained by the rate process of neutralization of hydrochloric acid.

Stable Isotope Chemistry of Bone Collagen and Carbonate Assessed by Bone Density Fractionation

  • This paper presents a stable isotope chemistry of bone collagen and carbonate. Bone carbonate has the potential to provide additional isotopic information. However, it remains controversial as to whether archaeological bone carbonate retains its original biogenic signature. I used a novel application of bone density fractionation and checked the integrity of ${\delta}^{13}C_{apa}$ values using radiocarbon dating. Diagenesis in archaeological bone carbonate still remains to be resolved in extracting biogenic information. The combined use of bone density fractionation and differential dissolution method shows a large shift in the ${\delta}^{13}C_{apa}$ values. Although ${\delta}^{13}C_{apa}$ values are improved in lighter density fractions, a large percentage of contamination in bone carbonate was reported via $^{14}C$ dating compared to that noted with bone collagen.

  • 용융탄산염형 연료전지의 특성을 결정짓는 탄산염 전해질에 있어, 기존의 Li-K와 Li-Na 탄산염과는 다른 Li-Na-K 삼원계 탄산염의 특성을 산소환원 및 산화니켈 용해거동을 통해 검토하였다. 대상 삼원계 전해질은 Li-Na-K=47.4-32.6-20, 60-20-20, 50-40-10, $40-40-20mo1\%$이었으며, $650^{\circ}C$, 1기압 조건에서 산소환원 거동은 전기화학적 방법을 통해, NiO용해거동은 화학적 방법을 통해 검토하였다 삼원계 조성에 따라 산소환원 전류치의 차이가 관찰되어, 산소용해도가 조성에 의존함을 나타내었다. 또한 $Li-Na-K = 50-40-10 mol\%$ 조성에서는 다른 형태의 산소환원 피크가 관찰되어 조성에 따라 산소환원 메카니즘의 차이가 존재할 수 있음을 시사하였다. 그러나 산화니켈 용해도는 조성에 크게 의존하지 않는 특성을 보여주었다.

Preparation of Regenerated Cellulose Fiber via Carbonation. I. Carbonation and Dissolution in an Aqueous NaOH Solution

  • Cellulose carbonate was prepared by the reaction of cellulose pulp and $CO_2$ with treatment reagents, such as aqueous $Zncl_2$ (20-40 wt%) solution, acetone or ethyl acetate, at -5-$0^{\circ}C$ and 30-40 bar ($CO_2$) for 2 hr. Among the treatment reagents, ethyl acetate was the most effective. Cellulose carbonate was dissolved in 10% sodium hydroxide solution containing zinc oxide up to 3 wt% at -5-$0^{\circ}C$. Intrinsic viscosities of raw cellulose and cellulose carbonate were measured with an Ubbelohde viscometer using 0.5 M cupriethylenediamine hydroxide (cuen) as a solvent at $20^{\circ}C$ according to ASTM D1795 method. The molecular weight of cellulose was rarely changed by carbonation. Solubility of cellulose carbonate was tested by optical microscopic observation, UV absorbance and viscosity measurement. Phase diagram of cellulose carbonate was obtained by combining the results of solubility evaluation. Maximum concentration of cellulose carbonate for soluble zone was increased with increasing zinc oxide content. Cellulose carbonate solution in good soluble zone was transparent and showed the lowest absorbance and the highest viscosity. The cellulose carbonate and its solution were stable in refrigerator (-$5^{\circ}C$ and atmospheric pressure).

알루미늄 코팅처리 스테인레스강의 융탄산염 내부식성 (The corrosion-resistant of Al-coated xstainless in molten carbonate)

  • Molten Carbonate Fuel cell is a promising new type electric power generation system which can achieve high efficiency, lower matrrial cost and high operating temperature Making internal reforming possible. Although the development of the MCEC is progressing rapidly toward commercialization, two important tchological problems such as dissolution of NiO cathode and not corrosion of metallic separator plate must be resolved. Because MCFC is operated at $650^{\circ}C$ and the electrolyte is very corrosive, corrosion-resistance of separator plated against oxidation abd molten carbonate is required. Al-coating on separator material for corrosion-resistance was carried out by painting, thermal spraying. hot dipping and vacuum vapour deposition. The corrosion of Al-coated STS 316S and 316L in molten carbonate at $700^{\circ}C$was studied. Vacuum vapour deposition and thermal spraing for Al-coating on STS 310S and 316L were the most effective methods for protecting thestainless steel corrosion in molten carbonate.
