  • Logarithmic electrical resistivity of the untreated or thin diameter carbon fiber composite increased suddenly to the infinity when the fiber fracture occurred by tensile electro-micromechanical test, whereas that of the ED or thick fiber composite increased relatively broadly up to the infinity. Electrical resistance of single-carbon fiber composite increased suddenly due to electrical disconnection by the fiber fracture in tensile electro-micromechanical test, whereas that of SFC increased stepwise due to the occurrence of the partial electrical contact with increasing the buckling or overlapping in compressive test. Electrical resistivity measurement can be very useful technique to evaluate interfacial properties and to monitor curing behavior of single-carbon fiber/epoxy composite under tensile/compressive loading.

  • 4D carbon fiber preforms were manufactured by weaving method and their carbon fiber volume fractions were 50% and 60%. In order to form carbon matrix on the preform, coal tar pitch was used for matrix precursor and high density carbon/carbon composites were obtained by high densification process. In this process, manufacture of high density composites was more effective according to pressure increasement. When densificating the preform of 60% fiber volume fraction with 900 bar, density of the composites reached at 1.90 $g/cm^3$ after three times processing. Degree of pressure in the densification process controls macro pore but it can not affect micro pore. During the carbonization process, micro pore of the preform were filled fully by once or twice densification processing. But micro pore were not filled easily in the repeating process. Therefore, over three times densification processing is the filling micro pore.

  • In this study, an effect of fiber blending on material property of Hybrid Fiber Reinforced Concrete (HFRC) was evaluated. Also, Compare and evaluates collating and mechanical property by the mixing rate of fiber for HFRC was determine. Modulus of rupture and strength effectiveness of Hybrid Fiber Reinforced Concrete mixed with macro-fiber(steel fiber) and micro-fiber(glass fiber, carbon fiber, cellulose fiber). Test result shows, in the case of mono fiber reinforced concrete. As the steel fiber mixing rate increases to 1.5$\%$, the strength effectiveness promotion rate rises. However, when is 2.0$\%$, strength decreases. In the case of hybrid fiber reinforcement concrete, synergy effect of micro fiber and macro fiber happens and higher Modulus of rupture and strength effectiveness appears than mono-fiber reinforcement concrete. Use of hybrid fiber reinforcement in concrete caused a significant influence on its fracture behavior; consequently, caused increase by mixing rate of steel fiber + carbon fiber and contributed by steel fiber + glass fiber, steel fiber + celluloid fiber in reinforcement effect in order. And was expose that steel fiber(1.5$\%$) + carbon fiber(0.5$\%$) is most suitable association.

  • Two pitches with different average molecular structures were electrospun and compared in terms of the properties of their fibers after oxidative stabilization, carbonization, and activation. The precursor with a higher molecular weight and greater content of aliphatic groups (Pitch A) resulted in better solubility and spinnability compared to that with a lower molecular weight and lower aliphatic group content (Pitch B). The electrical conductivity of the carbon fiber web from Pitch A of 67 S/cm was higher than that from Pitch B of 52 S/cm. The carbon fiber web based on Pitch A was activated more readily with lower activation energy, resulting in a higher specific surface area compared to the carbon fiber based on Pitch B (Pitch A, 2053 $m^2/g$; Pitch B, 1374 $m^2/g$).

  • In this work, Rayon-based activated carbon fiber(KF-1500) was treated by HN $O_3$ and $H_2$S $O_4$ with different conditions. Specific surface areas(SSA, $S_{BET}$) of the treated activated carbon fibers were decreased by acidic treatment but, total surface acidities and surface functional groups were increased. In spite of the decrease of SSA, propylamin(PPA) adsorption and removal ability by activated carbon fiber(ACF) were increased by nitric acid treatment compared with the raw-ACF(KF-1500) and coconut based activated carbon. However, acidic treated activated carbon fibers were available to removal for various amines and contaminants by adsorption.n.

  • Isotropic pitch-based carbon fiber has been activated by steam diluted in nitrogen in order to characterize the microporosity. Especially, 40 wt% burn-off ACFs were prepared from different conditions to compare the pore structure and size. The ACFs were thinly sliced to investigate the inside pores by TEM and image analyzer. As expected, the adsorption characteristics of these ACFs were quite different from one another because of different pore structure and size. Most pores are not slit-shaped but rather round. Small round micropores become broad and irregular as increasing the activation time and temperature.

  • For giving self-diagnosing capability, a method based on monitoring the changes in the electrical resistance of carbon materials in strengthened concrete has been tested. Then after examining change in the value of electrical resistance of carbon materials used as a rib of CFGFRP or a sheet of carbon fiber before and after the occurrence of cracks and fracture in hybrid FRP or carbon fiber sheet strengthened concrete at each flexural weight-stage, the correlations of each factors were analyzed.

  • Recently, the friction and wear behaviors of UHMWPE, ceramic and metal is being researched actively for the use as an artificial hip-joint. In this study, because of good wear properties of carbon fiber, we made experiments about the friction and wear of carbon fiber reinforced epoxy composite under the lubricative and the dry condition. The possibilities of carbon-carbon composite for the artificial hip joint application was studied from this results.

  • Carbon/Carbon composite was been manufactured by the technology of warmer-molding process of clutter chopped carbon fiber, using phenolic resin as an adhesive. The degree of graphitization, the microstructure and the friction properties were studied. The results show that the clutter chopped carbon fiber fully scatter in the Carbon/Carbon composite and the degree of graphitization of phenolic resin can reach up to 86.2%, this matrix carbon can form the continuous and stable graphitic thin film on the friction surface during braking process so that the composite has fine friction properties and low wear rate.

  • Multidirectional reinforcement is aimed primarily at overcoming interlaminar weakness, hence a major interest lies in the mechanical properties of multidirectional carbon/carbon composites. Mechanical properties depend on the type of carbon fiber, the size of the fiber bundle, the spacing of the bundles, the angles of the bundles relative to the axes of the block, and matrix formation. In the present studies, PAN based carbon fiber preforms manufactured different size of unit cell have been prepared. Densification of these used high pressure infiltration and carbonization technique with coal tar pitch as matrix precursor was carried out. Scanning electron microscopy has been used to study the fracture behavior of composites. The size of unit cell of the preforms has considerably affected on the flexural properties as well as microstructure of the carbon/carbon composites.
