실규모 구획화재의 연소가스에 대한 혼합분율 분석 (Mixture Fraction Analysis on the Combustion Gases of the Full-Scale Compartment Fires)

  • 본 연구에서는 구획화재로부터 발생되는 화학종의 특성을 파악하기 위해서 혼합분율분석을 수행하였다. 메탄, 헵탄 그리고 톨루엔과 같은 탄화수소 연료들을 사용한 화재 실험이 ISO 9705 표준 화재실에서 수행되었으며 상층부의 두 지점에서 가스종 농도와 그을음(soot) 분율 등을 측정하였다. 미연탄화수소(UHC), 일산화탄소(CO), 이산화탄소($CO_2$), 산소($O_2$) 그리고 그을음 등의 측정된 화학종에 대한 질량분율을 혼합분율의 함수로 나타내었고, 탄화수소 연료의 이상적인 반응식에 기초한 상태 관계식과 비교 분석하였다. 혼합분율 분석은 다양한 화재 조건 및 측정 위치에서 얻은 수많은 측정데이터를 하나의 일관된 파라미터, 즉 혼합분율의 항으로 분류할 수 있게 하였다. 해석 결과를 통해 혼합분율 계산에 그을음을 고려하는 것이, 특히 헵탄이나 톨루엔과 같이 그을음 발생이 큰 연료의 경우 분석의 정확성을 향상시킴을 확인하였다.

  • The TIER-LII system was established and evaluated using carbon black for diesel particulate size measurement. It contains a new designed sensor head which makes it easier to be measured. Through LII signal analysis of some parameters, we can understand that there were few correlations observed in effect of temperature, shield gas flow rate, and mixture flow rate.. However, an amount of difference was observed in different size of particulates.

  • Sooting characteristics of counterflow ethylene/propane mixture flames have been experimentally studied to investigate the fuel structure effect on PHM and soot formation. Laser-induced incandescene and laser-induced fluorescene techniques were employed to measure soot volume fraction and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) concentration, respectively. Importance of $C_{3-}$species on PAH growth as well as the H-abstraction-C$_2$ $H_2$addition (HACA) mechanism has been emphasized, considering that PAH growth rate is greater for with mixed fuel than fer pure fuel flames. It was also confirmed that HACA pathways are the dominant soot growth mechanism. A new PAH growth model including both $C_{2-}$ and $C_{3-}$growth mechanisms is proposed based on the experimental results.

The Effect of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide Concentration on Soot Formation in Nonpremixed Flames Using Time Resolved LII Technique

  • The influence of oxygen concentration and CO$_{2}$ as diluent in oxidizer side on soot characteristics was studied by Laser Induced Incandescence, Time Resolved LII and Transmission Electron Microscopy photography in non-premixed co flowing flames. Through the comparison of TEM photographs and the decay rate of LII signal, suitable two delay times of TIRE-LII method and signal sensitivity ($\Delta$S$_{TIRE-LII/) were determined. The effects of O$_{2}$ and CO$_{2}$ as diluent in oxidizer side on soot formation are investigated with these calibrated techniques. The O$_{2}$+CO$_{2}$, N$_{2}$, and [Ar+CO$_{2}$] mixture in co-flow were used to isolate CO2 effects systematically. The number concentration of primary particle and soot volume fraction abruptly decrease by the addition of CO$_{2}$ to the co-flow. This suppression is resulted from the short residence time in inception region because of the late nucleation and the decrease of surface growth distance by the low flame temperature due to the higher thermal capacity and the chemical change of CO$_{2}$ including thermal dissociation. As the oxygen concentration increases, the number concentration of soot particles at the inception region increases and thus this increase of nucleation enhances the growth of soot particle.

Preliminary Study on the Cloud Condensation Nuclei (CCN) Activation of Soot Particles by a Laboratory-scale Model Experiments

  • To visually and chemically verify the rainout of soot particles, a model experiment was carried out with the cylindrical chamber (0.2 m (D) and 4 m (H)) installing a cloud drop generator, a hydrotherometer, a particle counter, a drop collector, a diffusing drier, and an artificial soot particle distributer. The processes of the model experiment were as follows; generating artificial cloud droplets (major drop size : $12-14{\mu}m$) until supersaturation reach at 0.52%-nebulizing of soot particles (JIS Z 8901) with an average size of $0.5{\mu}m$-counting cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) particles and droplets by OPC and the fixation method (Ma et al., 2011; Carter and Hasegawa, 1975), respectively - collecting of individual cloud drops - observation of individual cloud drops by SEM - chemical identifying of residual particle in each individual droplet by SEM-EDX. After 10 minutes of the completion of soot particle inject, the number concentrations of PM of all sizes (> $0.3{\mu}m$) dramatically decreased. The time required to return to the initial conditions, i.e., the time needed to CCN activation for the fed soot particles was about 40 minutes for the PM sized from $0.3-2.0{\mu}m$. The EDX spectra of residual particles left at the center of individual droplet after evaporation suggest that the soot particles seeded into our experimental chamber obviously acted as CCN. The coexistence of soot and mineral particle in single droplet was probably due to the coalescence of droplets (i.e., two droplets embodying different particles (in here, soot and background mineral particles) were coalesced) or the particle capture by a droplet in our CCN chamber.

燃料油 燃燒에 미치는 有機金屬鹽의 助燃效果 (Combustibility Improving Effect of Organometallic Salt for Fuel Oil)

  • Catalytic effects of metallic salts on the combustion of diesel fuel oil have been studied. In the case of organometallic salt, the active species are the metallic oxides resulted from combustion of the salts. The oxides act only on the residual solid carbon produced from the fuel oil combustion. The catalytic activity can be explained with the semiconductor theory just as in the case of the gas phase reaction. The chemical rate constant of the combustion of carbon, the soot from diesel fuel oil, is found to be $k_c=1.1{\times}10^4\;exp$ (-16,600/T) below $800^{\circ}K$. By addition of metallic oxides, the rate constant increases remarkably. This work has substantiated the belief that the effect of the metallic salts on the fuel oil combustion can conveniently be studied by checking directly the effect of the corresponding metallic oxide on the soot carbon.

디젤-분무 수소-공기 확산화염에서 생성된 철-함유 탄소입자의 촉매 산화반응 특성 (Catalytic oxidation kinetics of iron-containing carbon particles generated from diesel-sprayed hydrogen-air diffusion flame)

  • In this study, we devoted to kinetic measurement of the catalytic oxidation of iron-containing flame soot particles and better understanding the role of catalytic particles on carbon oxidation in particular at low temperature, targeting on autothermal regeneration of diesel particulate filter by diesel exhaust gas. Carbon-based Fe-containing particles generated by spraying ferrocene-doped diesel fuel in an oxy-hydrogen flame are tested and compared with a commercial carbon black powder for thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Induced coupled plasma-Atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), and High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM). As a result, we found that a small amount of the ferrocene addition led to significant reductions in a on-set temperature and an activation energy of the carbon oxidation as well. An oxygenated surface complex forming at the particle surface could be thought as active species that would be readily consumed in particular at low temperature.

  • Accurate prediction of the fate and transport of contaminants in soils and sediments is very Important to environmental risk assessment and effective remediation of contaminated soils and sediments. The fate and transport of contaminants in subsurface are affected by geosorbents, especially carbonaceous materials including black carbon. Various physical and chemical treatment methods have been developed to separate different kinds of carbonaceous materials from soils and sediments. However, the effects of these separation methods on the properties of remaining carbonaceous materials including sorption capacity and linearity are unclear. The objective of this study is to determine if the chemical and thermal treatment methods previously used to separate different carbonaceous material fractions affect the properties of carbonaceous materials including longer term sorption capacity of hydrophobic organic contaminants. The results indicate that treatments with hydrochloric acid (HCl)/hydrofluoric acid (HF), trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), sodium hydroxide (NaOH) may not affect the sorption capacity of black carbon reference materials such as char and soot, however, treatments with acid dichromate $(K_2Cr_2O_7/H_2SO_4)$ and heat $(375^{\circ}C)$ for 24 hours in sufficient of oxygen) decrease the sorption capacity of them. The results of longer term sorption isotherm indicate that 2 days might be enough for trichloroethene (TCE) to equilibrate apparently with treated black carbon reference materials. The results suggest that acid dichromate and heat treatments may not appropriate method to investigate sorption properties of black carbon in soils and sediments.
