  • As we note the electric properties of carbon nanotube, we need to generate carbon nanotubes vertically. Generally, metal catalysts are used to synthesis carbon nanotubes. But through using DLC, dense patricles could be gotten easily. Compare to the case of using metal catalysts, the case of using DLC can conduct vertical grwoth of CNTs easily. In this paper, we changed growth temperature (550, 650, $7500^{\circ}C$) and growth time (3, 6, 9 min) in order to confirm synthesize vertical growth of CNTs on substrates.

  • In this paper, the artificial neural network (ANN) is employed to predict the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) beams retrofitted with carbon fiber/epoxy composites modified by carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Multiple techniques are used to improve the accuracy of the ANN prediction, as the data represents a multivalued function. These techniques include static ANN modeling, ANN modeling with load history, and ANN modeling with double load history. The developed ANN models are used to predict the load-displacement profiles of beams retrofitted with either CFRP or CNTs modified CFRP, flexural capacity, and maximum displacement of the beams. The results demonstrate that the ANN is able to predict the flexural behavior of the retrofitted RC beams as well as the effect of each parameter including the type of the used epoxy and the presence of the CNTs.

  • We have grown carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with a microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition (MPECVD) method, which has been regard as one of the most promising candidates for the synthesis of CNTs due to the vertical alignment, the low temperature and the large area growth. We use methane ($CH_4$) and hydrogen ($H_2$) gas for the growth of CNTs. 60 nm thick Ni catalytic layer were deposited on the TiN coated glass substrate by RF magnetron sputtering method. In this work, we report the effects of pressure on the growth of CNTs. We have changed pressure of processing (10 $\sim$ 20 Torr) deposition of CNTs. SEM (Scanning electron microscopy) images show diameter, length and cross section state CNTs.

  • Field-emission characteristics of carbon nanotubes(CNTs), which were grown on conical-type tungsten micro-tips by using an electrophoretic deposition(EPD) method, were examined. The EPD method proved to be convenient to manipulate and arrange CNTs from well dispersed suspensions onto such tip-type substrates. The growth rate of CNTs was proportional to the applied d.c. bias voltage and the process time. It was observed from the Raman study that the EPDproduced CNTs showed better crystal qualities with the Raman intensity ratio( $I_D$/$I_G$) of 0.41-0.42 than the CVD-produced CNTs and their crystal qualities could be further improved by thermal annealing. The electron emitters based on the EPDCNTs showed excellent field emission properties, such as the threshold voltage for electron emission of about 620 V and the maximum emission current of about 345 ${\mu}A$. In addition, the EPD-CNTs exhibited the stable long-term(up to 40 h) emission capability and the emission stability was enhanced by thermal annealing.

  • In this study, the effect of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on boiling heat transfer is investigated. Three refrigerants of R22, R123, R134a, and water are used as base working fluids and 1% of CNTs by volume is added to the base fluids to study the effect of CNTs. All data are obtained at the pool temperature of $7^{\circ}C$ for all refrigerants and $100^{\circ}C$ for water in the heat flux range of $10{\sim}80\;kW/m^2$. Test results show that CNTs increase the boiling heat transfer coefficients for all fluids. Especially, large enhancement was observed at low heat flutes. With increasing heat flux, however, the enhancement was suppressed due to vigorous bubble generations. Fouling was not observed during the course of this study. Optimum quantity and type of CNTs and their dispersion should be examined for their application in pool boiling heat transfer.

  • Vertically aligned CNTs were grown on Fe-deposited $SiO_2$ substrates using thermal CVD of acetylene gas. The size of Fe particle is controlled by the flow rate of $NH_3$ and pretreatment time, which leads to control the diameter of CNTs. As the diameter of CNTs decreases, the growth rate is enhanced with an inverse dependence of the CNT diameter. The growth rate of CNTs increases linearly as the growth time increases until 30 min but is rapidly decreased over 40 min. We found an inverse relation between the diameter and growth rate of carbon nanotubes. As the diameter of CNTs increases, the compartment layers of bamboo-shaped CNTs appear more frequently. A base-growth model is suitable to explain the dependence of growth rate and structure of CNTs on the diameter size of catalytic particles.

  • In this work, electrochemical characteristics and optical transmittance of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) counter electrodes which had different amount of CNTs in CNTs slurries were analyzed. Two-step heat treatment processes were applied to achieve well-fabricated CNTs electrode. Three sets of CNTs electrodes and dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) with CNTs counter electrodes were prepared. As the amount of CNTs increased, sheet resistance of CNTs electrode decreased. CNTs electrode with low sheet resistance had low electrochemical impedance and fast redox reaction. On the other hand, in case of CNTs counter electrode with low density of CNTs, performance of the dye-sensitized solar cell was improved due to its high optical transmittance. We found that the transmittance of CNTs counter electrode influence the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells.

  • In this work, mechanical and electrical properties of graphenes (GP)/carbon nanotubes (CNTs) co-reinforced high density polyethylene (HDPE) matrix composites were studied. The microstructure, morphologies, and electric properties of the composites were evaluated by XRD, TEM, and 4-probe methods, respectively. It was found that the electric resistivity of 0.5 wt %-GP/HDPE was immeasurable, and 2.0 wt %-CNTs/HDPE showed high resistivity ($6.02{\times}10^4{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$). Meanwhile, GP (0.5 wt %)/CNTs (2.0 wt %)/HDPE showed excellent low resistivity ($3.1{\times}10^2{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$). This result indicates that the co-reinforcement systems can dramatically decrease electric resistivity of the carbon/polymer nanocomposites.

  • This work reports wave propagation in the nanocomposite cylinders that reinforced by straight single-walled carbon nanotubes based on a mesh-free method. Moving least square shape functions have been used for approximation of displacement field in weak form of motion equation. The straight carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are assumed to be oriented in specific or random directions or locally aggregated into some clusters. In this simulation, an axisymmetric model is used and also the volume fractions of the CNTs and clusters are assumed to be functionally graded along the thickness. So, material properties of the carbon nanotube reinforced composite cylinders are variable and estimated based on the Eshelby-Mori-Tanaka approach. The effects of orientation, aggregation and volume fractions of the functionally graded clusters and CNTs on dynamic behavior of nanocomposite cylinders are studied. This study results show that orientation and aggregation of CNTs have significant effects on the effective stiffness and dynamic behaviors.

  • Field emission of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) fabricated by disproportionation of CO has been studied. CNTs fabricated on well-ordered Co nanowire arrays formed on the porous anodic aluminum oxide templates were well graphitized, uniform in diameter and aligned vertically with respect to the plane of the template, and showed a good field emission property. Very uniform emissions were observed from the CNTs fabricated at relatively low temperature, $500-600^{\circ}C$. Low fabrication temperature such as $500^{\circ}C$ could make it possible to fabricate CNTs on soda lime glass, a low-cost substrate, for display panel.
