The influence of Pb-citrate complex formation on Pb uptake and the effect of Pb on organic acid exudation were investigated using four plant species, viz., sunflower (Helianthus annuus L), Indian mustard (Brassica juncea), canola (Brassica napus) and vetiver grass (Vetiveria zizanioides) under hydroponic conditions. Seedlings were exposed to different levels of Pb and Pb-citrate for 24 hrs and subsequently Pb distributions in plant shoot, root and hydroponic solution were measured. The dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentration generally decreased as the concentration of Pb in the hydroponic solution increased. In contrast to DOC, the total organic acid concentrations exuded from Indian mustard roots significantly increased (424 to 6656 mg $kg^{-1}$) with increased Pb treatment, implying that exuding organic acids were involved in Pb accumulation in Indian mustard. The complexation of Pb with citrate enhanced Pb accumulation in the above ground portions. Lead concentration in Indian mustard increased from 2.05 mg $kg^{-1}$ to 6.42 mg $kg^{-1}$ when the concentration of citrate in solution increased from 0 to 50 mg $L^{-1}$. This result showed enhanced translocation of Pb from root to shoot with observation of transfer coefficient ($K_t$) increase from 2.03E-3 to 5.72E-3.
Cloud droplet activation process is well described by $K{\ddot{o}}hler$ theory and several parameterizations based on $K{\ddot{o}}hler$ theory are used in a wide range of models to represent this process. Here, we test the two different method of calculating the solute effect in the $K{\ddot{o}}hler$ equation, i.e., osmotic coefficient method (OSM) and ${\kappa}-K{\ddot{o}}hler$ method (KK). To do that, each method is implemented in the cloud droplet activation parameterization module of WRF-CHEM (Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with Chemistry) model. It is assumed that aerosols are composed of five major components (i.e., sulfate, organic matter, black carbon, mineral dust, and sea salt). Both methods calculate similar representative hygroscopicity parameter values of 0.2~0.3 over the land, and 0.6~0.7 over the ocean, which are close to estimated values in previous studies. Simulated precipitation, and meteorological variables (i.e., specific heat and temperature) show good agreement with reanalysis. Spatial patterns of precipitation and liquid water path from model results and satellite data show similarity in general, but on regional scale spatial patterns and intensity show some discrepancy. However, meteorological variables, precipitation, and liquid water path do not show significant differences between OSM and KK simulations. So we suggest that the relatively simple KK method can be a good alternative to the OSM method that requires various information of density, molecular weight and dissociation number of each individual species in calculating the solute effect.
To fabricate the continuously porous alumina bodies by multi-extrusion process, carbon powder and ethylene vinyl acetate were used as a pore forming agent and a binder, respectively. As the change of extrusion pass number, reduction ratio as well as the volume fraction of core and tube, the porous alumina bodies having various kind of pore size and porosity could be obtained. The porous bodies showed continuous pore shape, high specific surface as well as high bending strength, which were compared with those of commercial alumina bodies. In-vitro study was carried out using MG-63 osteoblast cells to investigate of their biocompatibility. As a result, the cells grew well on top and bottom as well as inside surface of pore. From the result of in-vivo study of 3-dimensional porous alumina bodies using rats, it was confirmed that any inflammatory response was not found in the subcutaneous tissue around porous body. Also the porous bodies removed from the rats were fully covered with well-developed fibrous tissues and showed the formation of new capillary blood vessels.

Palm oil production is among the highest worldwide, and it has been mainly used in the food industry and other commodities. Currently, a lot of palm oil production has been destined for the synthesis of biodiesel; however, its use in applications other than the food industry has been questioned. Thereby for a sustainable development, in this paper the use of palm oil of low quality for corrosion inhibitors synthesis is proposed. The performance of the synthesized inhibitors was evaluated by using electrochemical techniques such as open circuit potential measurements, linear polarization resistance and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results indicate that the fatty amides from palm oil are excellent corrosion inhibitors with protection efficiencies greater than 98%. Fatty amides molecules act as cathodic inhibitors decreasing the anodic dissolution of iron. When fatty amides are added, a rapid decrease in the corrosion rate occurs due to the rapid formation of a molecular film onto carbon steel surface. During the adsorption process of the inhibitor a self-organization of the hydrocarbon chains takes place forming a tightly packed hydrophobic film. These results demonstrate that the use of palm oil for the production of green inhibitors promises to be an excellent alternative for a sustainable use of the palm oil production.
This study deals with the microstructure and tensile properties of 700 MPa-grade high-strength and seismic reinforced steel bars. The high-strength reinforced steel bars (600 D13, 600 D16 and 700 D13 specimens) are fabricated by a TempCore process, while the seismic reinforced steel bar (600S D16 specimen) is fabricated by air cooling after hot rolling. For specimens fabricated by the TempCore process, the 600 D13 and 600 D16 specimens have a microstructure of tempered martensite in the surface region and ferrite-pearlite in the center region, while the 700 D13 specimen has a microstructure of tempered martensite in the surface region and bainite in the center region. Therefore, their hardness is the highest in the surface region and shows a tendency to decrease from the surface region to the center region because tempered martensite has a higher hardness than ferrite-pearlite or bainite. However, the hardness of the 600S D16 specimen, which is composed of fully ferrite-pearlite, increases from the surface region to the center region because the pearlite volume fraction increases from the surface region to the center region. On the other hand, the tensile test results indicate that only the 700 D13 specimen with a higher carbon content exhibits continuous yielding behavior due to the formation of bainite in the center region. The 600S D16 specimen has the highest tensile-to-yield ratio because the presence of ferrite-pearlite and precipitates caused by vanadium addition largely enhances work hardening.

Natural gas hydrates are ice-like solid substances, which are composed of water and natural gas, mainly methane. They have three kinds of crystal structures of five polyhedra formed by hydrogen-bonded water molecules, and are stable at high pressures and low temperatures. They contain large amounts of organic carbon and widely occur in deep oceans and permafrost regions. Therefore, they are expected as a potential energy resource in the future. Especially, $1m^3$ natural gas hydrate contains up to $172Nm^3$ of methane gas, de pending on the pressure and temperature of production. Such large volumes make natural gas hydrates can be used to store and transport natural gas. In this study, three-phase equilibrium conditions for forming natural gas hydrate were numerically obtained in pure water and single electrolyte solution containing 3 wt% NaCl. The results show that the predictions match the previous experimental values very well, and it was found that NaCl acts as an inhibitor. Also, help gases such that ethane, propane, i-butane, and n-butane reduce the hydrate formation pressure at the same temperature.
$Cu-CeO_2$ catalysts were prepared by co-precipitation and liquid phase oxidation (CP-LPO) and the prepared catalysts were examined as selective oxidation of carbon monoxide catalysts for the application of fuel cell vehicles. The prepared $Cu-CeO_2$ catalysts showed high reaction activity, but it was hard to find the correlation between the amount of Cu loaded and the reaction activities. As increase of the amount of Cu loaded, the micro pore structure of the catalyst was changed. It is due to the formation of solid solution between Cu and $CeO_2$. During pretreatment, the catalyst formed the solid-solution of Cu-Ce-O, resulting in the improvement of catalytic activity.
To investigate the effect of inorganic nutrient supplement in oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus), we have conducted some study on cultural and growth characteristics of fruitbody formation and chemical composition of media and fruitbody. When supplemented with slow releasing fertilizer, contamination rate was not different from non-supplemented medium, days for incubation time and first pinhead were faster than non supplemented medium. And fruitbody yield and biological efficiency were increased $10{\sim}28%,\;7{\sim}20%$ respectively, but biological efficiency was decreased when increased supplement ratio. The chemical compositions (total carbon, total nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, potassium and phosphate) of slow releasing fertilizer supple mented medium and fruitbody were compared with non-supplemented.

Heavy hydrocarbon reforming is a core technology for "Dirty energy smart". Heavy hydrocarbons are components of fossil fuels, biomass, coke oven gas and etc. Heavy hydrocarbon reforming converts the fuels into $H_2$-rich syngas. And then $H_2$-rich syngas is used for the production of electricity, synthetic fuels and petrochemicals. Energy can be used efficiently and obtained from various sources by using $H_2$-rich syngas from heavy hydrocarbon reforming. Especially, the key point of "Dirty energy smart" is using "dirty fuel" which is wasted in an inefficient way. New energy conversion laboratory of KAIST has been researched diesel reforming for solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) as a part of "Dirty energy smart". Diesel is heavy hydrocarbon fuels which has higher carbon number than natural gas, kerosene and gasoline. Diesel reforming has difficulties due to the evaporation of fuels and coke formation. Nevertheless, diesel reforming technology is directly applied to "Dirty fuel" because diesel has the similar chemical properties with "Dirty fuel". On the other hand, SOFC has advantages on high efficiency and wasted heat recovery. Nippon oil Co. of Japan recently commercializes 700We class SOFC system using city gas. Considering the market situation, the development of diesel reformer has a great ripple effect. SOFC system can be applied to auxiliary power unit and distributed power generation. In addition, "Dirty energy smart" can be realized by applying diesel reforming technology to "Dirty fuel". As well as material developments, multidirectional approaches are required to reform heavy hydrocarbon fuels and use $H_2$-rich gas in SOFC. Gd doped ceria (CGO, $Ce_{1-x}Gd_xO_{2-y}$) has been researched for not only electrolyte materials but also catalysts supports. In addition, catalysts infiltrated electrode over porous $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Ga_{0.8}Mg_{0.2}O_3-{\delta}$ and catalyst deposition at three phase boundary are being investigated to improve the performance of SOFC. On the other hand, nozzle for diesel atomization and post-reforming for light-hydrocarbons removal are examples of solving material problems in multidirectional approaches. Likewise, multidirectional approaches are necessary to realize "Dirty energy smart" like reforming "Dirty fuel" for SOFC.
N-Methylidene-2,6-diethylaniline (III) was prepared by the reaction of 2,6-diethylaniline (II) with an excess paraformaldehyde. The protons of N=$CH_2$in the compound III exhibited a second order NMR spectrum. The compound III reacted with bifunctional chlorocarbonylsulfenyl chloride(IV) to give N-(chloromethyl)-N-(2,6-diethylphenyl)-carbamoylsulfenyl chloride(V). The reaction of the compound V with various alcohols resulted in the formation of Alkyl N-(chloromethyl)-N-(2,6-diethylphenyl)-carbamoylsulfenate esters(VI${\sim}$XVI) in 71${\sim}$95% yields. The compound VI${\sim}$XVI decomposed gradually, but the thermal rearrangement of S-O bonding to S=O bonding was not found. The nucleophilic attack of an excess alcohol to the compound Ⅴ was made on both divalent sulfur and ${\alpha}$-carbon of N-chloromethyl group. The corresponding substituted products(XVII, XVIII) had considerable stability.
