  • An approach for the damage of delamination which is the major concern during mechanical working for composite laminate material is proposed based on linear elastic fracture mechanics. This paper presents method evaluating of damage crack length using by average thrust force with AE characteristics. Also, the relations of AE characteristics are obtained from delamination damages. We found the onset ply of the delamination and a critical energy release rate and expressed a stress intensity factor by AEcount equation.

  • We studied field-emission characteristics of CNTs under various pre-treatment with $NH_{3}$ plasma on the substrate. The turn-on electric field is the lowest value and field enhancement factor (${\beta}$) is he highest value in CNTs pre-treated by $NH_3$ plasma (80 W and 5 min). The field-emission property of CNTs grown on the Ta substrate is slightly better than on the W substrate.

  • The important factor for the development of burner is the achievement of low emissions with maintaining combustibility. In case of maintaining high temperature flame and excess air to increase the combustibility, it is possible to achieve high combustion efficiency, due to the reduction of UHC(unborn hydrocarbon), carbon monoxide and soot. However, it is difficult to reduce the thermal NOx produced in the high temperature flame. To solve this problem, we developed externally oscillated oil burner which is possible for the high efficiency combustion and low NOx emission, simultaneously. The experiment of flame characteristics and NOx reduction were achieved according to the variation of frequency, amplitude and air velocity. Frequency, amplitude and air velocity are the most important parameter. The optimum operating conditions are frequency 1,900 Hz, amplitude 3 $V_{pp.}$ and air velocity 6.8 m/s. Reduction of NOx and CO are 47% and 22%, respectively.

  • The growth of carbon nanotubes(CNTs) in anodic aluminum oxide(AAO) template and their application to a field emitter are described. AAO templates were fabricated by anodizing bulk aluminum and sputtered thin Al film on Nb-coated Si wafers. After Co catalyst had been electrochemically deposited into the bottom of the pores in AAO template, CNTs were grown by pyrolyzing $C_2H_2$. Depending on the reaction conditions, CNTs grew up to or over the top of the pores in AAO template with different structures. The morphology and structure of CNTs were observed with a scanning electron microscope and a transmission electron microscope. The diameter of CNTs strongly depended on the size of the pores in AAO template and the growing conditions. The electron field emission measurement of the samples resulted in the turn-on field of 1.9-2.2 $V/{\mu}m$ and the field enhancement factor of 2450-5200. The observation of high field enhancement factors is explained in terms of low field screening effect.

  • Nitrous oxide(N$_2$O) is well known as a greenhouse gas that contributes to the global warming (310 times more per molecule than carbon dioxide) and to the destruction of the ozone layer. The objective of this study is to estimate N$_2$O emission factor using an emission isolation flux chamber from municipal wastewater treatment plants. N$_2$O gas was analysed by GC/ECD with 6 port gas sampling valve. The results of this study were as follows. N$_2$O emission factor of 5-Stage process from Y wastewater treatment plants was lowest as 0.94 g-N$_2$O/kg-TN. And that of other processes were 2.65 g-N$_2$O/kg-TN for Activated sludge process, 9.30 g-N$_2$O/kg-TN for Denipho process, and 26.73 g-N$_2$O/kg-TN for Sequencing Batch Reactor process. We have known that 5-Stage process is most appropriate process to reduce greenhouse for municipal wastewater treatment plants.

  • Vessel numbers and fuel consumption by South Korea's offshore and coastal fisheries have continuously declined since 2000. Using the 2006 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Guidelines, $CO_2$ emissions by South Korea's fishery industry (fishing and aquaculture, excluding deep-sea fishing) were calculated by the default $ CO_2$ emission factor and fuel consumption by fuel type, Emission of $CO_2$ was estimated to be 3.22 million $tCO_2$/year in 2007 for fisheries (excluding deep-sea fishing); when including deep-sea fishing, the estimated value increased to 4.11 million $tCO_2$/year. Fuel consumption per tonne of fishery production was 498 L, and the amount of $CO_2$ emission per tonne of production was 1.62 $tCO_2$. To calculate $CO_2$ emission more exactly, we must develop a system to compile energy balance statistics and introduce life-cycle assessment for the fishery industry.

  • The aim of the study is to analyze urban characteristics that affect carbon emissions of buildings. The analysis was conducted at the level of 424 administrative districts in Seoul. The main variables used in the analysis were energy consumption and carbon emissions of buildings published in the Seoul Metropolitan Government's energy information platform 2021. It was found that carbon emissions per unit building were high in Jongno, Gangnam, Guro, and Mok-dong. A regression analysis using the spatial lag model (SLM) identifies that the variables that affect the carbon emissions of buildings were; commercial, educational, business and industrial facility variables as built environment factor; number of residents; traffic volume, number of bus routes and number of subway stations as transportation facilities factors; and environmental factors such as green area and river area.

  • This study aimed to develop biomass allometric equations and estimate carbon emission factors, such as the wood density, biomass-expansion factor, and root-to-shoot ratio, for Platanus occidentalis and Metasequoia glyptostroboides planted in urban areas. Twenty M. glyptostroboides and 25 P. occidentalis trees were harvested, and the dry weights and stem volumes of stems, branches, leaves, and roots (>5 mm) were measured. The wood densities of M. glyptostroboides and P. occidentalis were 0.293 ± 0.008 g cm-3 and 0.509 ± 0.018 g cm-3, and the biomass-expansion factors were 1.738 ± 0.031 and 1.561 ± 0.035. The root-to-shoot ratios were 0.446 ± 0.009 and 0.402 ± 0.012. The uncertainty tests (coefficient of variation, %) gave 2.8% and 3.5% values for wood density, 1.8% and 2.3% for biomass-expansion factor, and 2.1% and 2.9% for root-to-shoot ratio, respectively. Among the developed allometric equations, Model I using the diameter at breast height (DBH) was suitable. The allometric equations of M. glyptostroboides and P. occidentalis above ground were y = 1.679 (DBH)1.315 and y = 0.505 (DBH)1.896, and the allometric equations of the root and total were y = 0.746 (DBH)1.315, y = 0.301 (DBH)1.751, y = 2.422 (DBH)1.316, and y = 0.787 (DBH)1.858. If the carbon-emission factors of this study and biomass allometric equations of the three developed models are used to estimate the carbon storage and biomass of urban forests, errors caused by not considering the use of fixed factors and the environmental differences can be reduced.

  • To promote the carbon emission trading scheme and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emission as following 'Korean GHG & Energy Target Management System', GHG emissions should be accurately determined in each industrial sector. For the estimation method of GHG emission from waste landfill, there are several error parameters, therefore we reviewed the estimation method and proposed a revised method. Methane generation from landfill must be calculated by the selected method based on methane recovery rate, 0.75. However, this methodology is not considered about uncertainty factor. So it is desirable that $CH_4$ generation is estimated using first order decay model and methane recovery should use field monitoring data. If not, $CH_4$ recovery could be applied from other study results; 0.60 of operational landfill with gas vent and flaring system, 0.65 of operational site with landfill gas recovery system, 0.90 of closed landfill with final cover. Other parameters such as degradable organic carbon (DOC) and fraction of DOC decompose ($DOC_f$) need to derive the default value from studies to reflect a Korean waste status. Proper application of MCF that is selected by operation and management of landfill requires more precise criteria.

  • Nitrogen-doped ZnO nanoparticle-carbon nanofiber composites were prepared using electrospinning. As the relative amounts of N-doped ZnO nanoparticles in the composites were controlled to levels of 3.4, 9.6, and 13.8 wt%, the morphological, structural, and chemical properties of the composites were characterized by means of field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). In particular, the carbon nanofiber composites containing 13.8 wt% N-doped ZnO nanoparticles exhibited superior catalytic properties, making them suitable for use as counter electrodes in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). This result can be attributed to the enhanced surface roughness of the composites, which offers sites for $I_3{^-}$ ion reductions and the formation of Zn3N2 phases that facilitate electron transfer. Therefore, DSSCs fabricated with 13.8 wt% N-doped ZnO nanoparticle-carbon nanofiber composites showed high current density ($16.3mA/cm^2$), high fill factor (57.8%), and excellent power-conversion efficiency (6.69%); at the same time, these DSSCs displayed power-conversion efficiency almost identical to that of DSSCs fabricated with a pure Pt counter electrode (6.57%).
