Carbon dioxide extinguishing systems are broadly used for onshore and offshore fire accidents because of excellent performance and low cost. However, there is risk with carbon dioxide systems, which have caused many injuries and deaths by suffocation associated with industrial and marine fire protection applications. In this study, a numerical analysis was performed to predict the fire suppression characteristics of a carbon dioxide system in the compressor room of ships. A double protection safety system is suggested to prevent suffocation accidents from carbon dioxide extinguishing systems. Four scenarios were selected to study the variation of the heat release rate, maximum temperature, a $CO_2$ and $O_2$ mole fraction, and fire suppression characteristics with the carbon dioxide system. The importance of proper design is suggested for a ventilation system in the compressor room of ships.

Carbon nanotubes (CNT) which were grown, on the alumina substrate with a pair of comb-type Au electrodes, by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition have been investigated for $NO_2$ gas sensor. The electrical resistance of CNT film decreased with temperature, indicating a semiconductor type of CNT, and also the resistance of CNT sensor decreased with increasing $NO_2$ concentration. Upon exposure to $NO_2$ gas, the electrical resistance of CNT film sensor rapidly decreased within 3 minutes, and then showed a constant value after $20\~30$ minutes. It is found that the sensitivity of CNT sensor has been improved by air oxidation. The CNT sensor oxidized at $450^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes showed higher sensitivity value than that without oxidation by $27\%$, even for a low 250 ppb $NO_2$ concentration at operating temperature of $200^{\circ}C$. But it needs a recovery time more than 20 minutes for reuse after detection of $NO_2$ gas.
The vehicle oriented block box system based on the u-healthcare and the human-free guard functions is developed in this paper. We also suggested the design philosophies, ideas, and analyzed the performance of the suggested system. The developed vehicle oriented black box system has some characteristics such as; 1) detects the dangerous situation by ultrasonic sensor in advance, and stores the situation information of the neighborhood of the vehicle to the imbedded SD memory card if the dangerous situation may be occurred in the parked vehicle; 2) detects the present location and speed information of the vehicle by GPS receiver and 3-axes acceleration sensor, and stores the information to the SD memory card periodically if the vehicle is running; 3) measures the dioxide carbon in the vehicle inside using $CO_2$ sensor, and forces the ventilation motor of the vehicle to operate and maintains the driver's health if the measured level is more than standard health requirements; 4) provides the stored vehicle's operating information to the driver by GUI (Graphical User Interface) based touch LCD monitor.
Tape casting ceramics technology has been adopted for the fabrication of solid state electrochemical $CO_2$ sensors and the packaging substrates. The fabricated $CO_2$ sensors exhibit a fast response and a good recovery with the almost theoretical sensitivity of 37 mV/decade, corresponding to a sensor operating temperature of 373 K. The two packaging methods, the wire bonding package and the surface- mounted on the ceramic package, were compared with respect to their power consumption and mass production feasibility. In terms of the ease of fabrication, the surface mount packaging technology is superior to the wire bonding technology but its power consumption is approximately twice that of the wired package.
Solid state electrochemical and chemo-resistive gas sensors have been used widely but can operate only under high temperature. For reducing the power consumption and optimizing the structure of the substrate of these sensors, we conducted device and circuit simulations using the COMSOL Multiphysics simulator. For assessing the effective types of substrate and heat isolation, we conducted three-dimensional thermal simulations in two separate parts; (a) by changing the shape of the contacting holes and (b) punching additional holes on the substrate. Thus, it was possible to achieve high temperature in the sensor end of the substrate while maintaining low power consumption, and temperature in the circuit.

Carbon dioxide is a major cause for which accelerates Global Warming. Therefore several countries are working on the project recommended to use a bicycle instead of the car when you move to the nearby destination in an effort to reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide. In this paper, It was developed to measure the greenhouse gas reduction using Bluetooth Sensor Node by riding a bicycle instead of a car and management system in order to authenticate the riding record. The developed application provides various information such as individual bicycle mileage, greenhouse gas reductions, bicycle riding path, the number of planted ginkgo trees. This proposed system is expected to be helpful to green house gas emission reduction because the usage rate of bicycle will increase if government combine ways to offer people rewards such as pin money or tax breaks for people who take advantage of the bicycle with the project.

Non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) gas sensors typically use an optical filter that transmits a discriminating 4.26 ㎛ wavelength band to measure carbon dioxide (CO2), as CO2 absorbs 4.26 ㎛ infrared. The filter performance depends on the transmittance and full width at half maximum (FWHM). This paper presents the fabrication, sensitivity, and selectivity characteristics of a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR)-based Fabry-Perot filter with a simple structure for CO2 detection. Each Ge and SiO2 films were prepared using the RF magnetron sputtering technique. The transmittance characteristics were measured using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The fabricated filter had a peak transmittance of 59.1% at 4.26 ㎛ and a FWHM of 158 nm. In addition, sensitivity and selectivity experiments were conducted by mounting the sapphire substrate and the fabricated filter on an NDIR CO2 sensor measurement system. When measuring the sensitivity, the concentration of CO2 was observed in the range of 0-10000 ppm, and the selectivity was measured for environmental gases of 1000 ppm. The fabricated filter showed lower sensitivity to CO2 but showed higher selectivity with other gases.

A strip sensor based on $PbO_2$/carbon paste electrode was prepared by a screen-printing method, and employed to electrochemically determine the concentration of fruit sweeteners(i.e. glucose, sucrose, and fructose). The $PbO_2$/carbon paste electrode could monitor electrocatalytic oxidation of organic compounds such as carbohydrates, and measure the levels of natural sweeteners without enzyme. Severe interference from ascorbic acid was effectively reduced by modifying the electrode surface with a Nafion membrane. The response level of the Nafion/$PbO_2$/carbon paste electrode increased in the order of fructose, sucrose, and glucose, which corresponds to the order of sweetness perceived by humans.
To realize the traceability of sustainable textile products, this study presents a low-carbon process through energy savings in the textile material manufacturing process. Traceability is becoming an important element of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), which confirms the eco-friendliness of textile products as well as supply chain information. Textile products with complex manufacturing processes require traceability of each step of the process to calculate carbon emissions and power usage. Additionally, an understanding of the characteristics of the product planning-manufacturing-distribution process and an overall understanding of carbon emissions sources are required. Energy use in the textile material manufacturing stage produces the largest amount of carbon dioxide, and the amount of carbon emitted from processes such as dyeing, weaving and knitting can be calculated. Energy saving methods include efficiency improvement and energy recycling, and carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced through waste heat recovery, sensor-based smart systems, and replacement of old facilities. In the dyeing process, which uses a considerable amount of heat energy, LNG, steam can be saved by using "heat exchangers," "condensate management traps," and "tenter exhaust fan controllers." In weaving and knitting processes, which use a considerable amount of electrical energy, about 10- 20% of energy can be saved by using old compressors and motors.
The simple solid electrolyte carbon dioxide sensor with heaters were fabricated by using Li ionic conductor. Two Au electrodes were used for the reference and sensing electrode respectively. Two types of gas sensors, type ( I ) and type (II), were fabricated. Type ( I ) sensor was fabricated by the method of melting and crystallizing alkali metal carbonate at the temperature of $420{\sim}500^{\circ}C$. The sensing membrane of type (II) sensor was formed by the printing method on sensing electrode after metal carbonate was mixed with binder. The response characteristics of sensors fabricated for the carbon dioxide were investigated for a range of $CO_{2}$ concentration from 950 ppm to 9,950 ppm at operating temperature $420^{\circ}C$. Type ( I ) sensor and type (II) sensor showed the sensitivity of 62 mV/decade and 65 mV/decade respectively. The emf/decade of type (II) sensor tested at $420^{\circ}C$ almost followed the theoretical value of Nernst's equation and showed stable response characteristics with the fast response time of $15{\sim}20$ sec. Also type (II) sensor showed excellent stability and reproduction properties for 60 days.
