  • This paper introduces a new computational efficient Dilution of Precision (DOP)-based landmark exclusion method while ensuring the safety of the LiDAR-based navigation system that uses an innovation-based Nearest-Neighbor (NN) Data Association (DA) process. The NN DA process finds a correct landmark association hypothesis among all potential landmark permutations using Kalman filter innovation vectors. This makes the computational load increases exponentially as the number of landmarks increases. In this paper, we thus exclude landmarks by introducing DOP that quantifies the geometric distribution of landmarks as a way to minimize the loss of integrity performance that can occur by reducing landmarks. The number of landmarks to be excluded is set as the maximum number that can satisfy the integrity risk requirement. For the verification of the method, we developed a simulator that can analyze integrity risk according to the landmark number and its geometric distribution. Based on the simulation, we analyzed the relationship between DOP and integrity risk of the DA process by excluding each landmark. The results showed a tendency to minimize the loss of integrity performance when excluding landmarks with poor DOP. The developed method opens the possibility of assuring the safety risk of the Lidar-based navigation system in real-time applications by reducing a substantial amount of computational load.

  • Recently, the target of navigation system is moving from the cars to pedestrians. Many researches are in progress regarding pedestrian navigation, However, in most cases, the path-finding is based on the existing node/link network model. which is widely used for the car navigation, and thus showing its limitation. The reasons arc that a) unlike with a car, the paths that pedestrians take arc not limited to the roads, b) pedestrians an~ not restricted in rotation or direction, and c) they can freely move within the walkable space. No alternatives have been offered yet, especially for openspaces such as a park or square. Therefore, in this research, we suggested appropriate methods to create paths that can be used in pedestrian navigation service, by using motion-planning technology, which is used in the field of robotics for planning the motion of an object, and conducted tests for their applicability.

  • The Japanese developed the first Car navigation system in 1981 with the advent of Honda, which was known as the car inertial navigation system. Now days, It is possible to search the shortest route to and from places and arrival time using the internet via cell phone to the driver based on GIS and GPS. However, even with a good navigation system, it losses the shortest route when there is an average speed of the vehicle being between S-15 kilometers. Therefore, in order to improve the vehicle waiting time and average vehicle speed, we are suggesting an optimal green time algorithm using fuzzy adaptive control, where there are different traffic intersection lengths, and lanes. In this paper, to be able to assist the driver and forecast the optimal traffic information with regards to the road conditions; dangerous roads, construction work and estimation of arrival time at their destination using internet.

  • The vehicles play a significant role in modern people's life as economy grows. The development of car navigation system(CNS) provides various convenience because it shows the driver where they are and how to get to the destination from the point of source. However, the existing map-based CNS does not consider any environments such as traffic congestion. Given the same starting point and destination, the system always provides the same route and the required time. This paper proposes a path planning method with traffic prediction by applying historical driving information to the Fuzzy theory and Bayesian update. Fuzzy theory classifies the historical driving information into groups of leaving time and speed rate, and the traffic condition of each time zone is calculated by Bayesian update. An ellipse area including starting and destination points is restricted in order to reduce the calculation time. The accuracy and practicality of the proposed scheme are verified by several experiments and comparisons with real navigation.

  • A vehicle Control System that is a system combined by a Car Navigation System, a Geograhical Information System, and a Communication Network usually permit a central control room to detect vehicle's locations dynamically and manage these informations synthetically. Therefore, a vehicle control system can be used to control the rapid movement of patrol cars, freight transportation, and so on. In this paper, we designed and implemented a data manager for an application system, such as a vehicle control system, that usually manages road data, vehicle data, vehicle's location data, etc. The data manager that is implemented in this paper consists of system management module, road data management module, vehicle data management module, GPS(Global Positioning System) data management module, and additional data management module. Especially, we use the SHORE(Scalable Heterogeneous Object REpository) system as a storage system of the data manager.

  • In this paper, we propose the information acquisition and analysis system for a vehicle driver in order to provide the safe driving environments. We first define the list of reckless driving behaviors and propose the recognition system, which recognizes the reckless behaviors, by using the acquired information. The collaboration among the information acquisition, the analysis, and the behavior comparison modules increases the accuracy of the recognition rate. Our system alarms to a vehicle driver in order to notify the potential to confront the dangerous situation due to the abnormal or reckless driving behaviors.

  • Obstacle Detection System(ODS) is a essential system for automated vehicle, such as AGV(Automatic Guided Vehicle), mobile robot. Automated vehicle must have a capability to detect and to avoid obstacles to guarantee a safe driving condition. To implement obstacle detection system, virtual bumper concept adapted. Like real bumper in a car, such as in the truck, it protects vehicle from collision using laser distance sensor. When an obstacle(such as other vehicle, building, etc) intrudes this virtual bumper area, a virtual force is calculated and produces necessary strategy to be able to avoid collision. In this paper, simplified virtual bumper concept is presented, and various problems when happens to implement are discussed.

  • Navigation system providing route-guidance and traffic information is one of the most widely used driver-support system these days. Most of the navigation system is based on the 2D map paradigm so the information is ed and encoded from the real world. As a result it imposes a cognitive burden to the driver to interpret and translate the ed information to real world information. As a new concept of navigation system, augmented-reality navigation system (AR navigation) is suggested recently. It provides navigational guidance by imposing graphical information on real image captured by camera mounted on a vehicle in real-time. The ultimate goal of navigation system is to assist the driving task with least driving workload whether it is based on the abstracted graphic paradigm or realistic image paradigm. In this paper, we describe the comparative studies on how map navigation and AR navigation affect for driving tasks by experimental research. From the result of this research we obtained a basic knowledge about the two paradigms of navigation systems. On the basis of this knowledge, we are going to find the optimal design of navigation system supporting driving task most effectively, by analyzing characteristics of driving tasks and navigational information from the human-vehicle interface point of view.

  • Inter-vehicle communication is one of the most important parts in Intelligent Vehicle System. Through this communication, drivers can recognize what is happening out of their sights, such as the freezing condition of the street, traffic accidents, and so on. Each car in IVS gives various services to the drivers after analyzing those received information from cars or a base station. If the message is, however, exchanged from car to car directly, the computation cost which is needed for all the car to authenticate the transmitted message between nearby cars is tremendously high. Therefore, one can naturally think that the message communication between cars is performed with the help of the base station to reduce the computation cost. In this case where the base station collects all the information transmitted from cars and broadcasts them nearby, there should be an efficient way both for the base station to authenticate the car message within its communication range and for the car to authenticate the information received from the base station. In this paper, we present a two-way authentication protocol using a hash chain to efficiently exchange GPS information between a car and a base station. This information can be used to provide a driver with the navigation which displays all the moving cars around him in real time. When a car goes into an area of a base station, the car authenticates itself to the base station using its private key of PKI, sends a commitment of a hash chain, then starts to send a message with the hash value for authentication. The message includes GPS information, driver's status and so on. The base station also authenticates itself to the nearby cars using its private key, transmits the commitment of the hash chain, and sends all the messages gathered from cars with authentication information.
