Adaptive OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) improves data capacity and system performance over multipath fading by adaptively changing modulation schemes according to channel state information(CSI). To achieve a good performance in adaptive OFDM systems, CSI should be transmitted from receiver to transmitter in real time through feedback channel. However, practically, the CSI feedback delay d which is the sum of the data processing delay and the propagation delay is not negligible and damages to the reliability of CSI such that the performance of adaptive OFDM is degraded. This paper presents an adaptive OFDM system with a multistep predictor on the frequency axis to effectively compensate the multiple feedback delays $d(\geq2)$. Via computer simulation we compare the proposed scheme and existing adaptive OFDM schemes with respect to data capacity and system performance.

The Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) is considered as a novel modulation and multiple access technique for 4th generation wireless systems. In this paper, we formulate a base station's power allocation algorithm for each user to maximize the user's sum rate, subject to constraints on total power, bit error rate, and rate proportionality among the users for a better proportional rate adaptive (RA) resource allocation method for OFDMA based system. We propose a novel power allocation method based on the proportion of subcarrier allocation and the user's normalized proportionality constant. We adapt a greedy algorithm and waterfilling technique for allocating the subcarriers among the users. In an end-to-end simulation, we validate that the proposed technique has higher system capacity and lower CPU execution times, while maintaining the acceptable rate proportionality among users.
In this paper, we analyze the algorithm of the methodology developed by ITU for the calculation of spectrum requirements of IMT-Advanced. We propose an approach to estimate user density using traffic statistics, and to estimate spectrum efficiencies using carrier-to-interference ratio distribution and capacity theory as well as experimental data under Korean mobile communication environments. We calculate the IMT-Advanced spectrum requirements based on the user density and spectral efficiencies acquired from the new method. In the case of spectral efficiency using higher modulation and coding schemes, the spectrum requirement of IMT-Advanced is approximately 2700 MHz. When applying a $2{\times}2$ multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system, it is approximately 1500 MHz; when applying a $4{\times}4$ MIMO antenna system, it is approximately 1050 MHz. Considering that the development of new technology will increase spectrum efficiency in the future, the spectrum requirement of IMT-Advanced in the Korean mobile communication environment is expected to be approximately 1 GHz bandwidth.
Oxidative stress is considered to be associated with many diseases, such as inflammatory and cardiovascular diseases, aging and cancer. An important etiological mechanism of these diseases may be a causal relationship between the presence of oxidants and the generation of lipid hydroperoxides derived from enzymatic reactions or xenobiotic metabolism. The hydroperoxides can be decomposed to alkoxy- (ROㆍ) and peroxy- (ROOㆍ) free radicals that can oxidize other cell components, resulting in changes in enzyme activity or the generation of mediators, which can cause further cell damage. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of aqueous extract from the roots of Platycodon grandiflorum A. DC (Campanulaceae), Changkil (CK), to affect cellular response in primary cultures of rat hepatocytes to t-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BHP) induced oxidative stress and hepatotoxicity. CK-treated cells showed an increased resistance to oxidative challenge, as revealed by a higher percent of survival capacity in respect to control cells. CK reduced t-BHP-enhanced lipid peroxidation measured as production of malondialdehyde and enhanced intracellular reduced glutathione depletion by t-BHP. Furthermore, CK protected from the t-BHP-induced intracellular generation of reactive oxygen species assessed by monitoring dichlorodihydrofluorescein fluorescence. It can be concluded that CK exerts an antioxidant action inside the cell, responsible for the observed modulation of the cellular response to oxidative challenge, and CK have a marked antioxidative and hepatoprotective potency.
In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a cost-effective technique to upgrade the capacity of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) networks to a 40 Gb/s line rate using the existing 10 Gb/s-based infrastructure. To accommodate 40 Gb/s over the link optimized for 10 Gb/s, we propose applying a combination of super-FEC, carrier-suppressed return-to-zero, and pre-emphasis to the 40 Gb/s transponder. The transmission of 40 Gb/s DWDM channels over existing 10 Gb/s line-rate long-haul DWDM links, including $40{\times}40$ Gb/s transmission over KT's standard single-mode fiber optimized for 10 Gb/s achieves successful results. The proposed upgrading technique allows the Q-value margin for a 40 Gb/s line rate to be compatible with that of 10 Gb/s.
We designed and constructed a multichannel superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometer system to measure magnetic fields from the human brain. We used a new type of SQUID, the double relaxation oscillation SQUID (DROS). With high flux-to-voltage transfers of the DROS, about 10 times larger than the dc SQUIDs, simple flux-locked loop circuits could be used for SQUID operation. Also the large modulation voltage of the DROS, typically being 100 $mutextrm{V}$, enabled stable flux-locked loop operation against the thermal offset voltage drift of the preamplifier. The magnetometers were fabricated using the Nb/AlOx/Nb junction technology. The SQUID system consists of 37 signal magnetometers, distributed on a semispherical surface, and 11 reference channels were installed to pickup background noises. External feedback was used to eliminate the magnetic coupling with the adjacent channels. The liquid helium dewar has a capacity of 29 L and boil-off rate of about 4 L/d with the total 48 channel insert. The magnetometer system has an average noise level of 3 fT/√Hz at 100 Hz, inside a shielded loon, and was applied to measure auditory-evoked fields.

To cope with channel variation, wireless networks such as IEEE 802.11 WLAN provide multiple transmission rates by employing different channel modulation and coding schemes. However, the coexistence of different transmission rates degrades the total system performance of the network. In order to eliminate this performance abnormality and improve protocol capacity, we propose a new Packet transmission algorithm, the RAT(Rate-Adapted Transmission) scheme. The RAT scheme distributes the wireless channel fairly based on the channel occupancy time. Moreover, it efficiently transmits packets even in a single station using rate-based queue management. Therefore, the RAT scheme obtains not only the inter-rate contention gain among stations but also the intra-rate contention gain among connections in a single station.

In this paper, we develop a method that derive the average sector throughput of HSDPA system. This proposed method reflects the effects of AMC, scheduling and multi-code transmission, and is performed by simple calculation procedures such as link budget analysis. Link budget table is used to estimate a cell coverage in general. We modify the link budget table in order to calculate C/I of the user according to the location of the user in CDMA packet system employing AMC. Furthermore, we utilize the proposed method to analyze the effects of scheduling and multi-code transmission.
Offshore wind farms are rapidly growing owing to their comparatively more stable wind conditions than onshore and land-based wind farms. The power capacity of offshore wind turbines has been increased to 5MW in order to capture a larger amount of wind energy, which results in an increase of each component's size. Furthermore, the weight of the marine turbine components installed in the nacelle directly influences the total mechanical design, as well as the operation and maintenance (O&M) costs. A reduction in the weight of the nacelle allows for cost-effective tower and foundation structures. On the other hand, longer transmission distances from an offshore wind turbine to the load leads to higher energy losses. In this regard, DC transmission is more useful than AC transmission in terms of efficiency because no reactive power is generated/consumed by DC transmission cables. This paper describes some of the challenges and difficulties faced in designing high-power-density power conversion systems (HPDPCSs) for offshore wind turbines. A new approach for high gain/high voltage systems is introduced using transformerless power conversion technologies. Finally, the proposed converter is evaluated in terms of step-up conversion ratio, device number, modulation, and costs.
In the past, the PWM converter had a large switching loss by hard switching and difficult to high frequency operation. The resonance converter to decrease the switching loss and EMI is required the frequency control and needed to reduce the voltage or current stress at each parts. So, this paper propose the 3-phase boost converter and the method to compensated input power factor by control the amplitude - an instantaneous value of the DC inductor current -and control the switching frequency that a modulation error by the ripple of the DC inductor current. The proposed 3-phase PWM boost converter of single phase control type can takes higher capacity and compensate the power factor by using Feed back controller at each phase for the existing 3-phase bridge rectifier type. Moreover the 3-phase full bridge type using the rectifier at each 3-phase circuit will be small size reactor and compensate input power factor by minimize harmonic components of each phase.
