  • The purpose of this study is to develop a highly-efficient and compact steam reformer for PEMFC changing the burner types. For the purpose some of the Can type flat burners were adopted and the results were compared with 'O' company's typical cylinderical flat burner. We used commercial STAR-CD tools for numerical calculation. We found the optimum Can type STR burner and this type of burner was highly efficient comparing with typical burner.

응축 가스보일러용 다공 원통형 연소기의 개발에 관한 연구 (The study on the development of perforated can-type burner for condensing gas boiler)

  • This study was carried out to delvelop the burner for condensing gas boiler which can save energy by utilizing latent heat of combustion gas. A perforated can-type burner adopting premixed flame was chosen to reduce NOx emission and to simplify the manufacturing process. Basic experiments using unit cell combustor have been conducted to obtain data about the design parameters of perforated burner surface which can make stable flame for a wide operating conditions. Can-type burners designed on the basis of above data shows that flames are stable and also CO and NOx emission are low for a wide operating range.

난방기용 콘형 가스버너에서 3차원 난류 유동장 고찰 - 벡터장 및 평균속도에 대하여 - (Investigation of the Three-dimensional Turbulent Flow Fields in Cone Type Gas Burner for Furnace - On the Vector Fields and Mean Velocities -)

  • This paper represents the vector fields and three dimensional mean velocities in the X-Y plane of cone type swirl gas burner measured by using X-probe from the hot-wire anemometer system. This experiment is carried out at flowrate 350 and $450{\ell}/min$ respectively in the test section of subsonic wind tunnel. The vector plot shows that the maximum axial mean velocity component is focused in the narrow slits distributed radially on the edge of a cone type swirl burner, for that reason, there is some entrainment of ambient air in the outer region of the burner and the rotational flow can be shown in the inner region of the burner because mean velocity W is distributed about twice as large as mean velocity V due to inclined flow velocity ejecting from the swirl vanes of a cone type baffle plate of burner. Moreover, the mean velocities are largely distributed near the outer region of burner within $X/R{\fallingdotseq}1.5$, hence, the turbulent characteristics are anticipated to be distributed largely in the center of this region due to the large inclination of mean velocity and swirl effect.

  • In this study, the difference of flame stability zone for natural gases from producing districts was studied experimentally using a new type of flame stability diagram. The similarity of stable flame zone between a domestic appliance and an interchangeability test(IT) burner is also examined. As a result, the stable flame zones expressed by limits curves of flame lifting and yellow tipping show the similar results in a domestic gas range and IT burner. Furthermore, IT burner can reproduce the flash back phenomena and show the distinct difference of fuel type as the burner diameter is increased. To suggest the new type of flame stability diagram in the respect of fuel interchangeability, the air flowrate and Wobbe fuel flowrate were adopted as axis coordinates. It can be identified that the new diagram can provide the useful information on the difference of flame stability zone, heat input rate and air-fuel ratio when a fuel is altered to other fuels under the identical operating conditions. Finally, the stable flame zones for natural gas of 6 type are compared, and the detailed information to use as the interchangeability fuels of standard natural gas is provided using the new type of flame stability diagram.

  • For the compactness of regenerative combustion, self regenerative combustion and embedding regenerator inside furnace are proposed. The Self Regenerative burner system was developed to enhance thermal efficiency and Low Nox emission. In the twin regenerative system, two burner heads are generally used for preheating and exhausting combustion mode. But self regenerative burner system use only single nozzle body for regenerative combustion. Also two kind of regenerator, internal and external type, were designed to operate conveniently in both large and small furnace. According to test result, the self regenerative combustion system gives strong internal exhaust gas recirculation that reduce NOx emission significantly. NOx was measured as 50ppm(5% O2, 1290C furnace temperature). Also it is found that the fuel saving rate due to the self regenerative burner system reach to 30-40%. Thus it can be concluded that self regenerative mild combustion system appears to provide a reasonable regenerative burner for compactness and high performance as compared with conventional twin regenerative burner system. Also in the RT Application , compact twin regenerative burner was developed with the help of embedding regenerator inside furnace.

  • In this study, the validity study has been carried out to apply the combustion burner in an electric arc furnace. The validity of applying the combustion burner has been studied in the aspect of the operation through the calculation of heat balance. The average decrease rate of power on time is 11.2%. When the maintainability is compared to the door lance manipulator type, the multi-functional combustion burner is simple to replace and repair. The location of burner can be adopted according to the drawings which are recommended in this study. As a result, the validity of applying the combustion burner to improve an efficiency of electric arc furnace has been confirmed.

  • This study was carried out to optimize burner of the condensing gas boiler which can save energy by utilizing the latent heat of combustion gas and reduce pollutants emission. Three reasonable distances between burner and heat exchanger were decided through the experiments of model flat burner. The optimum burner geometry was determined from flame stability, pollutant emission characteristics and applicability to practical boiler system. The boiler designed by this research reaches turn-down ratio 5:1 in the domain of equivalence ratio 0.68∼0.85 and thermal efficiency of 98%. Emission of NOx and CO concentration was under 35ppm and 104ppm.

  • 공기 가열 장치는 크게 연소식과 열교환식 2가지가 있으며, 본 논문은 공기를 오염시키지 않은 열교환 방식인 청정 공기 가열 장치의 설계 방법을 기술하였다. 가열 장치는 크게 연소기 (Burner), 가열로 (Furnace), 열교환기 (Heat Exchanger), 배기구로 구성되어 되며, 가열되는 공기 유량과 입/출구 온도값으로부터 가열원인 연소기의 열용량과 연소기 연료인 LNG의 소요량을 구한다. 열교환기 내부에서 연소기의 뜨거운 연소가스와 가열되는 차가운 공기간의 열매체를 통한 간접 열교환이 이루어지므로, 가열되는 공기의 입/출구 온도에서 열교환기의 용량, 크기, 작동 최대 온도를 얻을 수 있게 된다.

  • The reformer system is a method for hydrogen production from hydrocarbon fuels such as natural gas under high temperature environment($about{\sim}1,000^{\circ}C$). The premixed swirl burner with mixing swirler and combustion swirler designed to deliver fuel cell electric output from 0.5 kW to 1.5 kW. Premixed swirl burner experiments using natural gas and mixture of natural gas and anode off gas were carried out to analyse flame patterns and stability by equivalence ratio respectively. The results show that the stable swirl flame can be established for all cases of fuels type using the premixed swirl burner. The swirl flame had a wide stability region and it showed very low CO(50 ppm) and $NO_x$(20 ppm) emission at different fuel type and various equivalence ratio conditions. The operating range of premixed swirl burner for stable swirl flame is found to exist between equivalence ratio of 0.70 to 0.90 for turn down ratio of 3:1.

건타입 버너의 수소 연소에 관한 연구 (Study of Hydrogen Combustion with n Gun-type Burner)

  • A gun-type burne. fur a LPG(Liquified Petroleum Gas) boiler was utilized for hydrogen combustion. The study was performed to obtain fundamental data prior to the design of a very low NO$\_$x/, hydrogen-fueled burner. First, numerical simulations were performed to predict mixing characteristics between air and fuel flows, and temperature distributions, etc. Experimental study was then performed to find out flame lengths, temperature distributions, and NO$\_$x/ concentrations. The results showed that a gun-type burner for a LPG boiler can be successfully used for hydrogen combustion without any major retrofitting. The hydrogen flame was very stable and 75 ppm of NO$\_$x/ in average was observed for the conditions considered in this study. Hydrogen combustion could be therefore a solution to avoid the problem of green-house gas(CO$_2$) if hydrogen becomes cost-effective.
