  • A study of facility securement and space utilization at national universities in Korea was conducted in order to help develop an efficient model for space management at national universities going forward. For the study, 36 national universities were asked to submit answers to a questionnaire on usage of campus facilities in 2013. We then analyzed the results of space management for the 27 universities that participated in the questionnaire in each of the past three years (2011-2013). Lastly, we conducted an awareness test on the space utilization policies and space management for these universities. The results are as follows. First, the aggregate average score for space utilization over the past three years is 74.06. The annual average score increased year-over-year and then decreased; it was 69.44 in 2011, 80.68 in 2012, and 72.05 in 2013. A decline in the sense of responsibility of universities to effectively manage space appears to be a factor in the decrease. Second, with 53% of respondents in agreement, treatment of campus area as private space appears to be the biggest hurdle for efficient space management. As such, a plan to foster a more communal view of campus facility area is required. Third, resistance from constituents to existing guidelines for space allocation on campuses appears to be limited (78.1% of respondents answered the guidelines currently in place were average, satisfactory, or very satisfactory). We believe this result points to a mutual understanding forming amongst constituents regarding guidelines on space allocation on campus.results of satisfaction research: the users are generally satisfied with education and student.

  • The existing universities enlarged the scope, filled up the facilities. And many new universities are founded by increase of university students, the change of curriculum and extension of installations for new curriculum. However, the planning for university campus hinders desirable activities in campus and also the origin function of university, because of the problems caused by an application of a uniform planning standard that lacks in logical analysis and such a short step as the occasion demands for the growth and the change of the university campus changing more rapidly than any other field in society. This dissertation is for space program beginning from architectural explanation and basic planning concluding a general structure-planning for land utility, circulation planning, and building layout planning in order to find the practical solution for the applicable campus plan. The contents of this dissertation is summarized below. First, I studied the characteristics of the university, the structure of the university facilities and the expansion the development process of the campus. Second, through the case study of domestic campus planning, I analyzed the characteristics and the problems about space programming, facility layout planning, circulation planning and exterior space planning. Third, in the basis of the above analyses, I set up the directions of comprehensive campus master plan.

  • Recently, as the environment issue has been stand out, people's interests in energy consumption of the building have been increased as well. Especially, university has been classified as the one of the main causes of excessive energy consumption. Therefore, domestic and foreign universities are trying to build a green campus in an attempt for sustainable development. Since early 2000s, foreign universities have been aware that one of the main causes of global warming is an excessive consumption of energy in universities. Accordingly, they adopted various energy management programs for the conservation. Ultimately, enforcing energy conservation and using alternative energy resulted in lower expense and it was a great help for the universities. On the other hand, excessive consumption of energy in domestic universities has been considered as serious, which led them to become the second main energy consumers in 2010. However, it seems people do not truly recognize the impotance of energy management, therefore, relatively little attention has been paid to this matter. Based on Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design(LEED) rating systems for on-campus building operation and maintenance, this research suggests the evaluation standard to effectively analyze the energy management activity with the best practices conducted in foreign universities and to solve the problem of campus facilities management in domestic universities. The result shows that domestic universities do not have a designated task force for effective energy management and the lack of energy professionals hinders for the long term development. Therefore, domestic universities should recognize the seriousness of the excessive energy consumption and develop low carbon green campus through proactive management practices since this is very essential for domestic universities to get more competitive in this global era.

  • This study is to analyze the satisfaction and the image evaluation of landscape elements in outdoor space by types of the university campus. The results are as follows. 1) Out of outdoor elements at university campus, planting area, resting area, access road, and water feature are recognized as major landscape elements. Among them, planting area and access roads are evaluated low in terms of satisfaction levels, therefore, improvement on these elements are required. 2) In outdoor space image evaluation, university campus has image such as 'simple', 'clear', and 'safe'. By scale of universities, both 'A' university, which is the biggest in terms of size of campus, and 'B' university, which has a medium sized campus, have a positive image. However, 'C' university, which is the smallest in terms of size of campus, has a passive and negative image. 3) 6 factors are extracted through Factor Analysis for image evaluation. All of the universities show positive image in the categories of 'clarity' and 'familiarity', however, 'B' university and 'C' university show negative image in the category of 'scale'. 4) In Correlation Analysis between landscape elements satisfaction level and image evaluation, it is showed that the group of landscape facility becomes a relation factor of overall image evaluation. As a result, the higher satisfaction level goes, the better image evaluation of overall outdoor space at university campus is.
