  • In this paper, a finite element method is applied to the numerical calculation of the harbor calmness. The mild stop equation as the basic equation is used. The key of this model is that the bottom friction and boundary absorption are imposed. A numerical result is presented and compared with the results obtained from the other numerical analysis. These results are in very well agreement. This method calculating the calmness can be broadly utilized making the new design of harbor and fishing port in the future.

  • The emotions that Aristotle treats in Rhetoric II 2-11 are broadly divided into two groups: the one is the so-called basic emotions, the other the emotions that are opposed to them. The reason that he draws attention to the opposite emotions is that, for example, angry judges must be placed in an opposite state. The question is whether the calmness treated in Rhetoric II 3 is an emotion. Because it is treated in the Ethics as a virtue and thus as a trait of character. How is calmness distinguished as an emotion from that as a virtue? And in what way is it opposed to anger? In short, what is the calmness, inasmuch as it is an emotion? This is the question which is the task of this work. The thesis asserted in this paper is that calmness is the disposition to do a service for another that results from praise or some other act that enhances a belief in one's worth. To substantiate the thesis, the following questions are discussed. The first question is whether the calmness could also contain proportions of pleasure and pain. The question also arises whether it could be also treated properly according to the standard 'target person-intentional object-mental state'. Finally, there is a comparison between the concept of calmness in the Ethics and Rhetoric, so that the latter concept places itself in the foreground.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the expressive effects of Queen Elizabeth I's robes in cinema and also to present two examples of Queen Elizabeth I's robes designed and made based on these expressive effects. To this end, this study wilt first examine Queen Elizabeth I's robes in her portraits according to the visual definers and emblematic meanings. Then on the basis of these knowledges, analyze visual definers and viewing priorities of Queen Elizabeth I's robes in five movies. Thereinafter, these robes will be classified based upon Belong(1998)'s four expressive effects. excitement. calmness, strength and delicacy. Finally, this study will demonstrate calmness and delicacy among four expressive effects through two robes made for the purpose. After analyzing the expressive effects of robes in five Queen Elizabeth I's movies, one can conclude excitement. calmness, strength, and delicacy can be found according to the flow of the story. Since this analysis focuses mainly on one particular person during one Particular period of time, there was a fundamental silhouette prevalent among the Queen's robes which then can be classified into different forms. Moreover, Queen's character in itself embodies authority and grace which. in turn, facilitates the presentation of the four expressive effects along the story line. In conclusion, thorough historical research on the character and the period. in addition to analysis of the visual definer and viewing priorities, is imperative when designing a historical costume.

  • This study performed a subjective evaluation of the Semantic Differential (SD) method for living room activities to evaluate the living room lighting environment and investigated the relationship between these through luminance distribution in the space. As a result, three factors-"lightness", "emotion" and "calmness"-have been grouped together. According to the analysis of experimental variables, difference has been observed depending on color temperature, the dimming of the ceiling & cove lights and the use of down lights and a bracket. 'Conversation with Family', 'Having Fun with Family', 'Entertaining Guests' and 'Reading a Book or Newspaper' requires "lightness". In terms of "emotion"-centered activities, 'Watching TV' is the highest, but all three factors are related. In terms of "calmness"-centered activities, 'Relaxing' is the highest.

  • There are various kinds of good feelings in indoor environment such as comfort, pleasure, delight, refreshment, geniality, etc. Each feeling is interrelated with other complex elements of senses such as warmth, coldness, calmness, clearness, brightness, etc. In this paper, we described what is good feeling in indoor environment, and developed elements of good feelings using Emotion & Sensibility engineering approach. Resultant elements of good feelings were "comfort," "refreshment," and "freshness." Secondary, we investigated the relationships of these elements with certain elements of senses. "Comfort" is related with "warmth, calmness, brightness, and very clearness in indoor air." "Refreshment" and "freshness" are related with "coldness, moderately calmness, very brightness, and very clearness in indoor air." The relationships were formulated as a fuzzy model. By applying human intuition to this model, we could determine physical ranges of "comfort, refreshment, and freshness."

  • The calmness inside a harbor plays an important role in the appropriate disposition of harbor structures. However, it is not easy to acquire accurate computational results because these are affected by many factors concerned with wave transformation. Recently, numerical model tests, which are quicker and more economical than hydraulic model experiments, were carried out for the purpose of analyzing wave height distributions in harbors. This paper presents a numerical model that is able to calculate wave heights inside a harbor. It is based on a time-dependent mild slope involving wave refraction, diffraction, shoaling effect, and reflection. In particular, arbitrary reflectivity is used at the boundary in order to simulate the real harbor reflection condition. The proposed numerical model is applied to Samcheon new-harbor in order to investigate harbor calmness.

  • To investigate the influence of water area calmness on the red tide development, runoff phenomena due to antecedent precipitation of red tide development day were analyzed. There were examined the water quality variation properties at about the same time of the red tide develop. The red tide was developed when the stage and discharge nearly had not changed. It was estimated that the stability of particle behavior in the mouth of river effected on the red tide develop. Also, the concentrations of $COD_{Mn}$ were increased about 241~629% when the red tide developed.

  • The harbor tranquility is indicating the level of calmness in the mooring basin of harbor. It relates keenly to berthing/unberthing and cargo handling works but also it is an important indicator to get the minimum water area as the safe refuge. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze in complex the variation of wave height and direction caused by wave refraction, diffraction, shoaling and reflection from the incident waves from outside the harbor. In order to check the calmness inside a harbor, the numerical models are being used currently need fundamental reviews according to the difference of results which depend on their respective features. In this study, hence, it was introduced the validity of numerical models by comparing the computational results for Hupo harbor.
