Purpose: Among patients with multiple traumatic fractures, a tendency to form more callus exists in groups with multiple fractures combined with traumatic brain injury. This retrospective study evaluated the hematologic factors that might be useful to predict callus formation by comparing serologic tests and clinical and radiologic results in two groups. Methods: From January 2000 to December 2010, patients with femur shaft fractures were divided in two groups: one without traumatic brain injury (control group: 32 cases), and the other with traumatic brain injury (study group: 44 cases). We evaluated routine serologic exams and the amount of callus formation during the follow-up period. Results: Only the alkaline phosphatase level was statistically different between the two groups, not the White blood cell count, C-reactive protein, total calcium, and lactate dehydrogenase level. The amount of callus formation on the antero-posterior radiograph at the last follow up period was 74.9% in the study group and 42.1% in the control group. Then lateral radiograph showed 73.2% callus formation rate in the study group and 31.8% in the control group. Conclusion: In routine serologic exams, the two groups had no significant differences, except for the alkaline phosphatase level. The group with traumatic brain injury had much more callus formation, but there was no reliable factor to predict callus formation on the routine serologic exam.

This experiment was conducted to determine factors affecting callus formation of some varieties of red clover. Growth regulators. basal medium, medium pH, agar concentration, and plant age for explant were investigated. The result obtained were as follows. As auxin source, 0.1 mg/ l picloram was found to be effective on callus formation. Callus formation was the highest on PC medium among several growth media. The callus produced on PC medium was more friable than those produced on the other media. The medium pH 5.8 gave the best response for callus formation. The effective seedling age for callus formatiom was around 5-7 days old. In agar concentration, 0.5-0.8%(WN) was suitable for callus formation.

Comparison results of callus formation ratio from seed explants, callus sizes, regeneration ratios from callus and regeneration efficiency [calculated by following formular; callus formation ratio(%) ${\times}$ regeneration ratio(%)/100] for 27 ochardgrass (Dactylis glomerata L.)varieties imported and Hapsung 2 developed in Korea are as follows; 1. Among ochardgrass varieties showing more than 50% callus formation ratios, the descending order of callus formation ratio after bedding the seed explants for 4 weeks was 93M>Sparta> Pizza>Condor>Lidaglo>Glorus>Hapsung 2>Frode. 2. The callus sizes after bedding for 4 weeks were in the range of $\Phi$ 0.43cm~4.2cm in which there was 10 times size difference between the largest one and the smallest one but most of them were between ${\Phi}2.5cm~4cm$. 3. The regeneration ratio from callus among varieties were in the range of 0~36% and descending order of the upper 6 varieties was Plano>Akimidori>Justus>Lidacta>Currie>Hall mark. 4. The regeneration efficiency which is calculated by the ratios of regeneration from seed explant numbers was between 0 to 17.4% among which Justus showed the highest value in the 4-week treatment. 5. The correlation between callus formation ratios and the callus sizes, callus formation ratios and regeneration efficiency, and callus sizes and regeneration efficiency were r=0.5765, r=0.6365 and r=0.6246, respectively in 4-week callus and all the correlations were significant on the 1% level. 6. In 6-week callus, the descending order callus formation ratios from seed explants fur the best 6 varieties was Condor>Sparta>93 M>Justus>Potomac>Lidaglo>Frode. 7. The callus sizes formed were between ${\Phi}1.5~5.7cm$ in which Sparta, the largest one of ${\Phi}5.7cm$ was five times larger than the smallest one. The callus size of the control variety, Hapsung 2 was ${\Phi}3.8cm$, which belonged to a larger size. 8. Regeneration ratio showed a great deviation among varieties from 6-week old calli by showing from 0% to 100% in which all the calli were regenerated in Piano while no callus was regenerated in Juno. 9. The range of regeneration efficiency was between 0~28% among varieties in which the values from 6-week callus treatment were larger than those from 4-week callus treatment. Especially, the value of Potomac in 6-week was 3 times larger than that in 4-week. 10. The correlation between callus formation ratios and the callus sizes, callus formation ratios and regeneration efficiency, and callus sizes and regeneration efficiency were r=0.5369, r=0.6683 and r=0.5937. respectively in 6-week callus, and all the correlations were significant on the 1% level.
The callus formation and shoot growth of germinating rice seedlings in the aseptic culture media treated with 2.4-D and N.A.A. were studied with 3 rice cultivars. Callus formation and shoot growth were the best in the media including $10^-4$M N.A.A.. Varietal differences also were significant in the formation of callus and shoot growth from the callus.
The development of a protocol for high efficiency of embryogenic callus separation, maintenance and plant regeneration from the seeds of zoysiagrass cv. Zenith was studied. Embryogenic callus ratio is absolutely determined by genotype, but by adding high concentration of copper into medium, changing light condition and maintaining callus on initial induction medium for 8∼10 weeks, embryogenic callus can be easily distinguished and its growth can be promoted. There were significant differences among selected callus lines (each from one seed) according to their growth rates and regeneration percentages. Callus pre-treatment with activated charcoal inhibited callus growth, increased the level of precocious germination during culture and promoted shoot cluster formation after transfer to regeneration medium. For long-term callus maintenance, N6AA medium was better than MS medium, because the former inhibited non-embryogenic callus formation and kept vigor of embryogenic callus. The best callus lines Z-(5) has been successfully used for transformation and somaclonal variation selection in our laboratory.
The present study was conducted to obtain some basic information on the shoot formation from crown gall callus and the characteristics of teratoma shoot derived from crown gall induced by inoculation of Agrobacterium tumefaciens C58. Crown gall callus could be continuously cultured on the phyohormone free basic medium. The growth of crown gall callus was inhibited when BA were added to the cultural media. Shoot formation from crown gall callus fail to be initiated except teratoma shoot which induced on the phytohormone free medium after several subculture on rare occasions. Teratoma shoot could not form root and grow as normal shoot. Addition of BA to cultural media was not effective for shoot elongation, reduction in multiple shoot formation, but IBA was somewhat effective for shoot elongation of teratoma shoot, never for root formation.
In order to provide basic information for the application of tissue culture to a rice breeding program. experiments were carried out on the callus formation from seedings and anthers and organ differentiation from the callus of rice varieties and their hybrids. It appeared that in general the callus tissue was more easily induced in japonicas than in indicas with significant varietal differences. A highly significant positive correlation (r=0.896$^{**}$) was obtained between the fresh weight of callus induced in NAA medium and in 2, 4-D medium in the same variety. Callus formed on the medium with 2, 4-D was more friable than that formed on the medium with NAA. The callus formation from seedlings was better than from anthers in upland rice varieties. The easiness of the callus formation appeared to be a dominant character in crosses of rice varieties. Varietal difference was also noticed in the organ differentiation from the callus and the root differentiation seemed to be easier than the shoot differentiation. Most of the plants derived from the cal1us were albinos and the frequency of occurrence of albinos was greater in callus of seedlings than in that of anthers. Greater amount of callus tissue was formed from anthers of $F_1$ plants than anyone of their parents in remote-crosses but it was clear in close-crosses. A highly significant positive correlation (r=0.504$^{**}$) was found between the callus formation from seedlings and from anthers.

In order to produce betacyanins from sugar beet(Beta vulagris L.) in vitro, callus induction, shoot formation, root formation, betacyanin contents and protein contents determined from callus which was induced cotyledons of sugar beet seedling under an addition of NAA and BAP on the MS medium. The results were summarized as follows; The combination 3.0mg/l NAA and 1.0mg/l BAP treatment showed the most high callus induction rate, betacyanin and protein contents. The combination NAA and BAP treatments were not shoot formation, but BAP treatments showed high root formation rate. But high concentrations of BAP have not shown root formation.
This study was carried out to induce and maintain callus from 59 zoysiagrass lines, to know the effective disinfestation method for zoysiagrass stolon as explant and the difference in the response of callus induction among 59 lines, and to investigate the effect of medium, growth regulators, light, temperature, stolon part and internode position on callus induction and emhryogenic callus(E.C.) formation. The treatment of 0.lmg/L $HgCl_2$for 15 min resulted in no contamination and the highest callus induction(46.6%). Callus was induced from the 59 zoysiagrass lines. The callus growth of Z. japonica and Z. sinica was generally better than Z. matrella Ten cell lines whose callus and stolon grow fast in culture and in field, respectively were selected to he used for breeding. Callus induction was the most effective at 2.0mg /L of both 2, 4-D and picloram in MS medium. MS medium was the best for callus induction and growth while LS medium was the best for embryogenic callus and shoot formation. Callus induction and growth was better at 28, 31$^{\circ}C$. than 25$^{\circ}C$. and dark condition was better than light condition in MS me-dium containing 2mg/L 2,4-D. While callus induction was better with node part as explant than with internode part, callus growth and embryogenic callus formation was better with internode part. In 'Japonica 1', the first internode was the most effective in callus induction, but third internode was the best in '$M_2$ X $S_2$'.
Explants from stem, leaf and root tissue of Cissus juttae were plased on Ms medium supplemented ifferent combination of 2.4-D, NAA, Kinetin and BA in a actorial experiment. some callus formed in every treatment, but the best callus growth was on media containing $1.0{\;}mg/{\ell}$ NAA and $1.0{\;}mg/{\ell}$ BA. Formation of advantitious emboyos was evident in callus to MS medium supplemented with $0.1{\;}mg/{\ell}$.
