This study was performed to elucidate the effect of degree of substitution and degree of polymerization of CMC on the rheological characteristics of coating color which is consisted of calcium carbonate as pigment. The results were as follows: 1. It appeared that DP of CMC rather DS has an effect on the low shear viscosity of coating color. 2. According as shear rate increased, the effect of DP and DS on high shear viscosity of coating color decreased. 3. According to increasing DS and DP, the water retention of coating color increased.
Cryptand resins were synthesized by mixing 1-aza-18-crown-6 macrocyclic ligand with styrene divinylbenzene copolymer having 1%, 2%, 5%, and 10% crosslink by a substitution reaction. These synthetic resins were confirmed by chlorine content, elementary analysis, SEM, surface area, and IR-spectrum. As the results of the effects of pH, crosslink of synthetic resin, and dielectric constant of a solvent on uranium ion adsorption for resin adsorbent, the uranium ion showed high adsorption at pH 3 or over. Adsorption selectivity for the resin in methanol solvent was the order of uranium ($UO_2{^{2+}}$) > calcium ($Ca^{2+}$) > neodymium ($Nd^{3+}$) ion, adsorbability of the uranium ion was the crosslink in order of 1%, 2%, 5%, and 10% and it was increased with the lower dielectric constant.
The hydroxyapatite with different amounts of strontium was synthesized with wet chemical technique. The structural, morphological and chemical characterizations for the prepared hydroxyapatite with various strontium amounts were carried out with XRD, SEM, EDS, and FT-IR. Strontium is quantitatively incorporated into hydroxyapatite where its substitution for calcium provokes a well distribution in the EDS mapping and a linear shift of the infrared absorption bands of the hydroxyl and phosphate groups, coherent with the greater ionic radius of strontium.
Partial replacement of Portland cement by slag can reduce the energy consumption and $CO_2$ emission therefore is beneficial to circular economy and sustainable development. Compressive strength is the most important engineering property of concrete. This paper presents a numerical procedure to predict the development of compressive strength of slag blended concrete. This numerical procedure starts with a kinetic hydration model for cement-slag blends by considering the production of calcium hydroxide in cement hydration and its consumption in slag reactions. Reaction degrees of cement slag are obtained as accompanied results from the hydration model. Gel-space ratio of hardening slag blended concrete is determined using reaction degrees of cement and slag, mixing proportions of concrete, and volume stoichiometries of cement hydration and slag reaction. Furthermore, the development of compressive strength is evaluated through Powers' gel-space ratio theory considering the contributions of cement hydration and slag reaction. The proposed model is verified through experimental data on concrete with different water-to-binder ratios and slag substitution ratios.
This study was performed with an aim to improve the early-age strength of concrete containing fly ash, which is known to increase the long-age strength of concrete, reduce drying shrinkage, and enhance water tightness. The composition was partially substituted with calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA), from which ettringite is actively produced, in the early stages of hydration to verify its effect on improving the early-age strength and to determine the optimal mixing ratio. For this purpose, up to 30 % of the cement weight was substituted with fly ash, and the amount of CSA substitution was 8% of the fly ash weight. The mixtures were then fabricated into concrete specimens for compressive strength measurement and analysis of the correlation between the hydration products and the compressive strength.
Dielectrics which do not lose their high insulation resistance in reducing atmosphere are necessary for multilayer ceramic capacitors with Ni internal electrode. In this study we investigated the Ca ion site occupancy in A-site excess Ca-doped BaTiO3 by measuring the insulation resistance, lattice constant and Curie temperature. Its Curie temperature, which was lower than that of the pure BaTiO3, was more lowered by sintering in reducing atmosphere. Lattice constnat of c-axis decreased and that of a-axis increased, suggesting substitution of Ca ions for Ti ions. Hence CaTi" acts as an acceptor to maintain high insulation resistance.ance.

Magnesium-substituted BCP (biphasic calcium phosphate) powders were prepared by incorporating small amounts of magnesium into the structure of different hydroxyapatite (HAp)/${\beta}$-tricalcium phosphate (${\beta}$-TCP) ratios through coprecipitation method. A series of magnesium substitutions ranging from 0, 0.5, and 1.0 wt%, which are comparable to the measured magnesium contents, were performed. The obtained powders were characterized by the following analytical techniques: X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Thermo Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The results have shown that substitution of magnesium in the calcium-deficient apatites resulted in the formation of biphasic mixtures of different HAP/${\beta}$-TCP ratios after heating above $1000^{\circ}C$. The 1.0 wt% magnesiumsubstituted-BCP were soaked in Hank's solutions after 2 weeks to observe the morphology of the biocement, especially needle-like hydroxyapatite crystals and to estimate the length and diameter of nanoneedle crystals.
Fish-frames are processing byproducts, which are left after obtaining fillets or muscle during fish processing. The fish-frame generally consists of muscle, collagen, calcium, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). We used fish-frame powder (FFP) of chum salmon and skipjack tuna to prepare and characterize snacks for human consumption with different proportions of FFP. The crude protein and lipid contents of fish-frames were 16.3 and 9.4% for chum salmon and 18.6 and 8.3% for skipjack tuna, respectively. The volatile basic nitrogen (30.6 mg/100 g) and browning index (0.393) of FFP from chum salmon were lower than those of FFP from skipjack tuna. Thus, the FFP of chum salmon was better for making snacks than that of skipjack tuna. Five snacks were prepared with 0, 10, 20, 30, and 40% (w/w) substitution ratios of FFP from chum salmon. The moisture content of the snacks decreased (33.6 to 11.5%) with increasing FFP substitution ratio, whereas crude ash (2.9 to 7.5%), protein (11.4 to 18.4%) and lipid (13.7 to 35.1%) increased. Sensory scores for the texture and taste of the snack with 30% FFP were significantly higher (p<0.05) than those for other snacks; the color and flavor scores of all snacks did not differ significantly. The major fatty acids in the snacks were 16:0 and 18:0 as saturates, 18:1n-9 as monoenes, and 18:2n-6 and 18:3n-3 as polyenes. Snacks with FFP contained small amounts of EPA (0.5 to 0.8%) and DHA (1.3 to 1.8%) in the total lipid composition. The total amino acid content (16.08 g/100 g) of the snack with 30% FFP was higher than that of the snack without FFP (11.18 g/100 g), and the major amino acids were aspartic acid, glutamic acid, glycine, leucine, and lysine. The calcium and phosphorus contents of the snack with 30% FFP were 1,272 mg/100 g and 854 mg/100 g, respectively, and their ratio was the optimal range (2:1 to 1:2) for body absorption efficiency.
High dietary phytate is a known factor in reducing the bioavailability of minerals such as zinc and calcium which are already chronically low in the Korean diet. This study was conducted to develop methods for reducing dietary phytate through the addition of phytate and/or the substitution of high phytate foods with low phytate foods. Ten units of phytase per 100g of uncooked brown rice were added to brown rice gruel resulted in a 16.2% phytate reduction after a 3-hour incubation period; an 18.2% reduction was produced after a 6-hour incubation period. The addition of ten units of phytase per 100g of soybean curd residue at 45$^{\circ}C$, followed by refrigeration for 3 hours, resulted in a 19.1% phytate reduction. The addition of 20 units of phytase under the same conditions reduced phytate content by 24.6%. In this study, two typical Korean meals consisting of legumes and unrefined cereals were prepared as high phytate meals; these were then compared to low phytate meals that had been prepared by treating the foods with phytase and substituting unrefined with refined cereals (i.e., brown rice with white rice, whole wheat bread with white bread). The phytate content of the two high phytate meals was 1878.2mg and 1811.8mg. After the addition of phytase and the food substitution, the phytate content of the low phytate meals was reduced to 788.9mg and 606.0mg. The phytate to zinc molar ratio of high phytate diets was 22.4 and 21.3 and 9.4 and 7.9 for the low phytate meals. These results indicate that the nutritional status of Koreans in terms zinc and other minerals can be improved by phytate reduction. This can be accomplished through the change of milling process for some cereals and/or the enzyme treatment of some high phytate food items.

Cholecystokinin octapeptide (CCK-8), acetylcholine (ACh) and KCl caused a dose dependent contraction in muscle cells enzymatically digested from cat gallbladder. Maximal contraction was obtained at concentration of $10^{-9}M$ for CCK-8, $10^{-5}M$ for ACh and 20mM for KCl. CCK-8 induced contraction was unaffected in calcium free physiological salt solution (PSS) and was completely blocked by strontium substitution for calcium (p<0.001). In contrast, KCl evoked contraction was blocked in calcium free PSS (p<0.01) but was unaffected by strontium replacement of calcium. The contraction elicited by ACh was only slightly reduced in calcium free PSS (p<0.05) and was unaltered by strontium. Muscle cells permeabilized with saponin contracted in response to inositol 1,4.5-trisphosphate $(IP_3)$ and CCK-8. The contraction was blocked by the calmodulin antagonist CGS 9343B (p<0.001), whereas heparin completely blocked the effect of $IP_3$ (p<0.001). The protein kinase C (PKC) antagonist H7 had no effect on either agonist. We conclude that CCK-8 induced gallbladder muscle contraction is mediated by $IP_3$ dependent intracellular calcium release from intracellular stores and a calmodulin dependent pathway; ACh may utilize both extracellular and intracellular calcium. KCl causes muscle contracrion through influx of extracellular calcium and a calmodulin independent machanism.
