Industrial-scale Ca-fortified Dangmyon was manufactured with added casein phosphopeptides (CPP) to increase Ca adsorption in the intestine. Very low P content in eggshell Ca (egg Ca) and Dangmyon could make it possible to indirectly measure CPP content in Dangmyon. Partitions of the whole P present in Dangmyon were made into sweet potato, egg Ca, and CPP. The CPP content was obtained by multiplying CPP per P by the amount of P partitioned into CPP. It was found that 88.46% of CPP was obtained. However, when milk Ca, which was much higher in P, was added to fortify Dangmyon with CPP, it was found that the CPP content was either under- or over-estimated. Care must be taken when a much higher content of P as a Ca source is selected using this method. It was discovered that the added Ca and CPP were retained after cooking at boiling temperature; therefore, Dangmyon could be an excellent Ca and CPP carrier for humans.
To develop the practical cultivation for paddy field, we investigated the properties of paddy soil, growth characteristics and ginsenoside content of 6-year-old ginseng, Cheonpung variety between poor drainage class (PDC) and imperfect drainage class (IDC). Groundwater level in PDC showed monthly small changes of 20~30 cm, while IDC showed monthly great changes of 28~71 cm depending on rainfall. Soil moisture content in PDC and IDC was 17.2%, 22.5%, respectively. Air temperature in IDC was lower than $0.3^{\circ}C$, while soil temperature was higher than $0.8^{\circ}C$ compare to PDC, respectively. Main soil color of PDC was grayish olive, while IDC was brownish olive. PDC showed yellowish mottles only at underground of 20~40 cm, while IDC showed that at underground of 30~90 cm. IDC showed lower pH, EC, potassium, calcium and magnesium content, but higher organic matter, phosphate, and iron content than that of PDC, respectively. All of EC, organic matter, potassium, calcium, and magnesium content were decreased, but iron content was increased at the subsoil layers of PDC. All of EC, organic matter, phosphorus, and potassium content were decreased, but calcium and magnesium content were increased at the subsoil layers of IDC. Root yield in IDC was more increased by 33% than that of PDC. The moisture content and rusty ratio of ginseng root in IDC were lower than that of PDC. Ginsenoside content in IDC was higher than that of PDC because the ratio of lateral and fine root showing relatively high content of ginsenoside was higher in IDC than that of PDC.
Ground Calcium Carbonate, among paper coating pigments, will influence less dispersant demand, less binder demand, increase coating solids from 58% to 70%, which means high speed coating, less shrinkage during drying, less energy consumption, more uniform coverage of fibers. The quality point of view of Ground Calcium Carbonate, brightness, particle size, Particle size distribution, hardness, impurities content are important. More important factors of Ground Calcium Carbonate which influence the paper coating process are dispersion mechanisms and their effects. The study was made to investigate the effect of Ground Calcium Carbonate dispersion by sodium salt of polyacrylate dispersant composition and dispersion condition. Basic tests such as physical, optical and chemical were perfumed, and dispersion effects were investigated by different conditions. The results showed that the type of dispersant affected the dispersion effects, and the Ground Calcium Carbonate has critical dispersant demand.
This study was designed to observe the effects of nutritional supplementation of general Korean diet on protein metabolism in growing rats. Seventy weanling Sprague-Dawely male rats weighing 76.8$\pm$1.45g were blocked into ten groups and fed ten different experimental diets for eight weeks. The rats in cereal-vegetable group were fed ad libitum for all the experimental period and those in other experimental groups were pairfed following the feed intake of rats in C-V gp. Control group was given 72% cornstarch-29% casein diet : C-V gp was fed cerealvegetable diet composed of rice, barley, soybean and Chinese cabbage : the other eight groups were fed C-V diets supplemented with casein, vitamin B\sub 2\ calcium, vitamin A, vitamin B\sub 2\ and vitamin A, vitamin A and calcium, vitamin B\sub 2\ and calcium, vitamin A and vitamin B\sub 2\ and calcium, respectively, on the basis of each nutrients content of standard diet.
Milk mineral, which is also called milk calcium, was recovered from concentrated skim milk ultrafiltration permeate (CUFP). Lactose, the major constituent of CUFP, was crystallized by the addition of ethanol; lactose precipitation was observed to increase as the ratio of CUFP to ethanol increased. The calcium content of CUFP remained constant at a CUFP to ethanol ratio of 1:2, while it significantly decreased at a CUFP to ethanol ratio of 1:4. When ethanol (95%, v/v) was reused to precipitate lactose out of CUFP, 85% of the initial lactose precipitated out, while 82% of calcium remained soluble in the CUFP after storage for 24 h.
Calcium phosphate ceramic composites, consisting of hydroxyapatite(HA) and tricalcium phosphate (TCP), were fabricated by solid state sintering in order to investigate the effect of their initial compositions on microstructural evolutions and biocompatibility. All the sintered calcium phosphate ceramics exhibited almost full densification, while the grain growth of the composites increased with an increasing TCP content in the green body. The TCP phase transformed into a Ca-deficient HA phase during sintering via the diffusion of calcium ions from the HA phase into the TCP phase. The phases formed in the composites significantly affected the biocompatibility of the composites. The HA-matrix ceramic composites with TCP had a better cellular response than the pure HA ceramics, presumably due to the newly formed Ca-deficient HA.
In this study, we developed a healthy snack using dried shrimp powder which is rich in calcium to help prevent bone disease. Different types of yanggaeng were prepared with varying ratios of dried shrimp powder; 1%, 3%, 5%, and 7%. Moisture content, color value, texture properties, and mineral concentration were measured. The L, a, and b chromaticity values showed significant differences in the 5% addition group (p<0.001). The texture properties, hardness, and adhesion decreased significantly as the amount of shrimp powder increased (p<0.001), while chewiness and elasticity significantly increased as the amount increased (p<0.001). Calcium and potassium increased significantly as the amount of shrimp powder increased (p<0.001).
Solid materials of ammonia sources with SCR have been considered for the application of lean NOx reduction in automobile industry, to overcome complex problems of liquid urea based SCR. These solid materials produce ammonia gas directly with proper heating and can be packaged by compact size, because of high volumetric ammonia density. Among ammonium salts and metal ammine chlorides, calcium ammine chloride was focused on this paper due to low decomposition temperature. In order to make calcium ammine chloride in lab-scale, simple reactor and glove box was designed and built with ammonium gas tank, regulator, and sensors. Basic test conditions of charging ammonia gas to anhydrous calcium chloride are chosen from equilibrium vapor pressure by Van't Hoff plot based on thermodynamic properties of materials. Synthetic method of calcium ammine chloride were studied for different durations, temperatures, and pressures with proper ammonia gas charged, as a respect of ammonia gas adsorption rate(%) from simple weight calculations which were confirmed by IC. Also, lab-made calcium ammine chloride were analyzed by TGA and DSC to clarify decomposition step in the equations of chemical reaction. To understand material characteristics for lab-made calcium ammine chloride, DA, XRD and FT-IR analysis were performed with published data of literature. From analytical results, water content in lab-made calcium ammine chloride can be discovered and new test procedures of water removal were proposed.
This study was carried out to evaluate the calcium and phosphorus intakes and correlation with growth performance of 25male breast and formula-fed infants from 1 to 3 months postpartum. There were four groups breast-fed(BF) and three formula-fed groups(FFM, FFN and FFP). There was no significant difference in the height and weight of infants according to feeding methods and formula brands. Milk intake and the concentration of calcium and phosphorus from human milk and the formulas were measured. The average calcium content of human milk was 26.6$\pm$4.1mg/dl and 13.5$\pm$2.0mg/dl, respectively. The average calcium intakes of the brest-fed and formula-fed infants were 205.5$\pm$29.3mg/day and the 460.5$\pm$70.6mg/day, respectively the average calcium intake of breast-fed infants was significantly lower than that of formula fed infant. The percent of RDA(41%) of breast-fed infants was lower than that(75.4%) of formula fed infant. The average phosphorus intake of the brest-fed and formula-fed infants were 105.1$\pm$20.1mg/day and 288.3$\pm$37.3mg/day, respectively. The precent of RDA(27%) for brest fed was significantly lower than that(75.4%) of formula fed. The Ca/P ratios were 2.1 in brest fed and 1.6 in formula fed infant. The average calcium and phosphorus intakes of the formula fed infants was higher than that of the brest-fed infants. This data suggests the calcium and phosphorus intakes form human milk sufficiently support the growth of infants. Therefore, the level of calcium and phosphorus recommended dietary allowances for infants should be reduced.
