Tide-induced changes in marine fish cage-shape cause changes in swimming behavior of cultured chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus)

  • We performed field measurements of the behavioral changes in cultured chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus) caused by tide-induced changes in the shapes of their small-sized tetragonal fish cages. The field measurements were conducted in two separate periods: neap tide, a period in which the shape of the fish cages was stable; and spring tide, a period in which the fish cages are significantly deformed, which was expected to have significant influences on fish behavior. In the spring tide, the cages were deformed greatly by the moving water, with different water velocities affecting the cages to different degrees; the volume loss was estimated at 4.9% and 7.3% for v = 0.114 m/s and v = 0.221 m/s, respectively. The fish exhibited significantly different behaviors between the neap tide and spring tide. During the neap tide, the fish remained in the lower part of the cage, but during the spring tide they made frequent upward and downward movements, and their horizontal distribution changed significantly due to the changes in the shape of the cage. The cage deformation during the spring tide greatly influenced the swimming behavior of fish.

  • Corona characteristics of conductors are dependent on the electric field conditions in the immediate vicinity of the conductors. In case of DC transmission line, particularly, the space charge plays an important role in the electric field distribution. Therefore, DC corona cage simulation is necessary for long-term test in the same conditions. This paper presents the results of designing and constructing hardwares such as DC power supply, measurement system and DAS to carry out the simulation. The corona cage longitudinally is divided into five equal length sections and three inner sections of those are isolated from the ground of outer cage. The measurement items are radio noise, corona current, television noise, audible noise and meteorological conditions. In the next step, various simulations about the type and configuration of two or three candidate conductors will be conducted. And then finally an environmentally-friendly conductor for HVDC overhead transmission line will be decided.

  • 완도에서 주로 사용되는 4열 10행의 가두리 1조를 조합한 형태로 구성된 PE프레임의 내파성 전복가두리를 1/20로 축소하여 모형을 만들고 유체흐름 가시화 실험을 통해 전복가두리 주위의 해수의 흐름을 파악했다. 실험의 결과를 검증하기 위해 노화도 현장의 전복양식 가두리의 내부와 외부의 유속을 측정하였다. 연구의 결과는 아래와 같다. 1. 모형실험에서 전복가두리에 입사하는 해수는 대부분 첫 번째 단위 가두리 (칸) 를 통과하지 못하였다. 2. 모형 전복가두리 중앙 부위에서는 가두리에서 수조바닥으로 향하는 흐름을 관측하였다. 3. 모형 전복가두리의 외측 열을 빠져나가는 유체의 유속이 내측 열을 빠져나가는 유체의 유속보다 빨랐다. 4. 노화도의 현장 양식가두리의 2 m앞의 조류의 유속은 0.11 m/sec였지만 가두리 칸 내부의 유속은 0.0009 m/sec로 거의 움직임이 없었다. 5. 현재의 전복가두리 형태는 해수의 유통이 원활하지 않아 가두리 내부로 새로운 해수를 공급하기 어려울 것으로 판단된다.

Spring rod를 사용한 척추경 나사못과 동반 시술된 Flexible cage의 생체역학적 효과 (Biomechanical Efficacy of a Combined Flexible Cage with Pedicle Screws with Spring rods: A Finite Element Analysis)

  • Recently, flexible cages have been introduced in an attempt to absorb and reduce the abnormal load transfer along the anterior parts of the spine. They are designed to be used with the pedicle screw systems to allow some mobility at the index level while containing ROM at the adjacent level. In this study, a finite element (FE) study was performed to assess biomechanical efficacies of the flexible cage when combined with pedicle screws with flexible rods. The post-operated models were constructed by modifying the L4-5 of a previously-validated 3-D FE model of the intact lumbar spine (L2-S1): (1) Type 1, flexible cage only; (2) Type 2, pedicle screws with flexible rods; (3) Type 3, interbody fusion cage plus pedicle screws with rigid rods; (4) Type 4, interbody fusion cage plus Type 2; (5) Type 5, Type 1 plus Type 2. Flexion/extension of 10 Nm with a compressive follower load of 400N was applied. As compared to the Type 3 (62~65%) and Type 4 (59~62%), Type 5 (53~55%) was able to limit the motion at the operated level effectively, despite moderate reduction at the adjacent level. It was also able to shift the load back to the anterior portions of the spine thus relieving excessively high posterior load transfer and to reduce stress on the endplate by absorbing the load with its flexible shape design features. The likelihood of component failure of flexble cage remained less than 30% regardless of loading conditions when combined with pedicle screws with flexible rods. Our study demonstrated that flexible cages when combined with posterior dynamic system may help reduce subsidence of cage and degeneration process at the adjacent levels while effectively providing stability at the operated level.

  • This paper is about designing the magnetizing system which is used for magnetizing the NdFeB magnet in a squirrel cage rotor. It propose the shape of the magnetizing yoke, the number of coil turn and the capacitor discharging circuit parameter. In case of magnetizing the NdFeB magnet assembled with a squirrel cage rotor, the eddy current which is produced during magnetizing becomes a disturbance in magnetizing NdFeB magnet. Hence in this paper, we try to design optimized magnetizing system with eddy current considered by FEM(Finite Element Method).

Comparison of Flywheel Systems for Harmonic Compensation Based on Wound/Squirrel-Cage Rotor Type Induction Motors

  • This paper describes two different systems which can compensate harmonic currents generated in a power system. As non-linear loads increase gradually in industry fields, harmonic current generated in the electric power network system also increases. Harmonic current makes a power network current distorted and generates heat, vibration and noise in the power machinery. Many approaches have been applied to compensate harmonic currents generated in the power system. Among various approaches, in this paper, two kinds are compared and evaluated. They are flywheel compensators bases on secondary excitation of WRIM(wounded rotor induction motor) and SCIM(squirrel cage induction motor). Both systems have a common structure. They use a flywheel as an energy storage device and use PWM inverters. The main differences are the size and rating of the converter used.

이미징 소나를 이용한 외해가두리 내 참다랑어의 유영 행동 모니터링 (Swimming behavior monitoring of Pacific bluefin tuna (Thunnus orientalis) in the offshore sea cage using the imaging sonar)

  • The swimming behavior of pacific bluefin tuna (Thunnus orientalis) in the offshore sea cage of the brass fishing net was observed and analyzed by imaging sonar techniques. The cultured fish spent most of the time swimming a circular path along the circular cage wall and continued to swim only clockwise direction without completely changing the swimming direction during the 23-hour observation time. In addition, changed swimming behaviors were divided into four categories: (a) the behavior of a large group temporarily swimming in the opposite (counter clockwise) direction, (b) the behavior of a small group temporarily swimming in a small circular path, (c) the behavior swimming small circular path in the center of the cage, and (d) the behavior of a large group swimming across the center of the cage. The maximum swimming speed of the cultured fish was from 3.5 to 3.8 TL/s, the mode was from 1.2 to 1.4 TL/s and the swimming speed during the day time was faster than at night time. It was confirmed the cultured fish swam not only on the surface but also near the bottom net of the cage during the day, but swam mainly at the upper part of the cage at night.

동합금가두리망에서 사육한 참돔, Pagrus major의 생물학적 안전성 (Fish Farm Performance of Copper-alloy Net Cage: Biological Safety of Red Sea Bream Pagrus major Rearing the Copper-alloy Net Cage)

  • 어류양식용 가두리로서 동합금가두리망의 현장활용 가능성을 파악하기 위해 양식어류인 2년산 참돔을 동합금망과 합성섬유망에서 9개월 동안 각각 사육관리하면서 참돔에 미치는 양식생물학적 및 병리학적 영향을 조사하여 생물학적 안전성을 평가하였다. 동합금가두리망은 지름 25 m, 깊이 10 m의 규모로 제작하여 경남 통영시 욕지면 주변해역 연구교습어장에 설치하였다. 동합금가두리망과 합성섬유망에서 사육한 참돔의 생존율은 각각 99.75%와 99.70%로 유의한 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 일일체중성장률은 동합금가두리망과 합성섬유망에서 각각 2.13 g/day와 1.65 g/day로 동합금가두리망에서 사육한 참돔의 성장률이 빠른 것으로 나타났다. 혈액성분 분석에 따른 건강도 평가는 합성섬유망에 비해 동합금가두리망에서 양호한 것으로 나타났다. 가두리망 종류별 사육중인 참돔의 구리와 아연의 축적은 다른 기관에 비해 생식소에서 축적이 높게 나타났으며, 가용부분인 근육내 중금속 축적은 허용기준치에 비해 매우 낮았다. 또한 병원체 감염조사결과 동합금가두리망과 합성섬유망에서 기생충은 Microcotyle tai, 세균은 Vibrio alginolyticus 외 5종 등이 공통적으로 관찰되었으나, 동합금가두리망에서 Vibrio속의 세균 감염률에는 다소 차이를 보여 항균작용이 있을 것으로 예상된다. 따라서 동합금가두리망의 시스템안정성, 재활용가능성, 항균성 및 식품안전성 등을 고려할 때 어류양식용 가두리로 현장에서 활용이 가능할 것으로 여겨진다.

  • The analysis of statically indeterminate bearing-shaft system was investigated. The moment loads and misalignment angles which were induced in the ball bearings were determined, and the influence of span length of this system on the moment loads and fatigue lives was identified. The sliding and spinning speeds between balls and raceways which affected the performance of ball bearing evaluated. The equation to estimate the cage speed of ball bearing under moment loads was proposed. This equation had been verified by the test results of measuring of cage speed, which was useful to the prediction of ball bearing under moment loads.
