  • To develop an efficient mass rearing system for Cadra cautella(Walker) and Orius laevigatus(Fieber) were investigated under the conditions of photoperiod 16L : 8D, $70{\pm}5%$ RH and $23{\pm}2^{\circ}C$. The highest efficiency rate(multiply 28.6) of C. cautella was achieved when using the rearing cage of $20{\ell}$ than $3{\ell}$. The highest efficiency rate(multiply 16.3) of O. laevigatus was achieved when using the rearing cage of $5{\ell}$ (adult 1,500, 10 pcs(10 cm) of plant of egg taking). The moth could be successfully reared with all food substrates tested, of which rice bran(43%) + chick feed(43%) + yeast(14%) assumed to be proper for mass-rearing in view of cost.

  • Biological characteristics of the almond moth, Cadra cautella, of which eggs will be substitute diets for Orius spp. and Trichogramma spp., were investigated and a mass-rearing system for the moth was developed. At 25$^{\circ}C$, egg, larval, and pupal period was 4.2, 29.8 and 8.3 days, respectively, and adult longevity was 5.8 days for female and 4.8 days for male. Total number of eggs at 20, 25 and 30$^{\circ}C$ was 128.9,207.9 and 139.9, respectively. The moth could be successfully reared with all food substrates tested, of which rice bran (50%)+chick feed (50%) assumed to be proper for massrearing in view of cost. Eggs could be stocked at 9 C for 7 days, representing 82% hatchability. In the rearing cage (16${\times}$24${\times}$9cm) used, 1,000 eggs was better for initial level of inoculation, showing relatively high emergence rate and adult weight. Mass-rearing procedures were explained in detail.

Developmental Performance and Parasitism of Trichogramma chilonis Ishii on Eggs of the Oriental Tobacco Budworm, Helicoverpa assulta(Guenee), and the American Bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) Depending on Previous Hosts (명충알벌(Trichogramma. chilonis)의 사육 기주에 따른 왕담배나방과 담배나방에 대한 발육반응 및 기생률)

  • The parasitism, development time, hatchability, and progeny production of Trichogramma chilonis(TC) females developed in eggs of Helicoverpa assulta (HAs), Cadra cautella (CC), and Helicoverpa armigera (HAr), respectively, were compared with those developed in reciprocal eggs at constant temperatures of $25{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity of 50~70% under 16L-8D. Developmental performances of TC reared in each of the three hosts on the following hosts(host tested) appeared differently, and were affected most by the size of the proceeding hosts and test host. Among the parameters parasitism and progeny production were affected more than others. Parasitism was significantly different between the treatments, lowest in CC-HAr($10.1{\pm}2.05%$) and highest in HAr-HAs($47.0{\pm}2.09%$), and the hatchability showed similar pattern. Development time as well was shortest in the CC-HAr where previous host is smallest and test host is biggest. The highest number of progeny production of TC was observed in HAr-HAs($93.9{\pm}6.87$ wasps), and the lowest was CC-HAs($18.4{\pm}6.36$ wasps).

  • An Investigation of insect pests in rice stored was carried out in Jeonnam region of Korea. The total of 2 class, 7 orders 16 families and 25 species were recorded in Lepidoptera; 8, Coleoptera; 11, Orthoptera; 1, Thysanura 1, blattaria; 2, Hymenoptera; 1 and mites; 2 spe-cies. The important species among them were Sitotroga cerealella, Ephestia cautella, Paral-ipsa gularis, Poldia, in Lepidoptera, and Sitophilus orzae, Oryzaephilus surianmensis, Cryptolestes ferrugineus, Tribolium castaneum, Tenebroides mauritanicus, Attagenus japonicus, in Coleoptera and Blatella germanica, in Blattaria and Acarus siro Petrobia latens, in mites. The duration of maximum occurrence were the late June to mid July for Sitotroga cerealella, the mod July to early August for Oryzaephilus surianmensis the mid July to August for Tribolium castaneum, the early July to late July for Sitophilus orzae, the mid June to early July for Attagenus japonicus the mid June to late Spetember for Blatella germanica and the late April to late May for Acarus siro and Petrobia latens, respectively in investigation, Blatella germanica(Blattaria) which was no problem in stored rice insect till now was mainly distributed a coastal plain and period of occurrence was long amount of occurrence was great. Rice weevil has 4 generations under natural conditions and the peak of 1st perood time was ranged from middle of jun. to last decade of Jun., 2nd period was from the lats decade of Jul. to first decade of Aug., 3rd period was from middle of Sep. to late Sep., 4th period was middle of Oct. to early Nov.
