  • The prefabricated type used generally in Korea to join cable runs on new installations or to repair broken Cable runs on existing installations, because installation is very simple and save time. This type is a permanent, shielded and submersible cable joint for direct burial or vault application. It confirms to the requirements of IEEE std. 404-1993 by factory testing, but many problems of insulated cable systems are caused by internal defects of the joint part which have to be mounted ensile. Faults arise from impurities or voids. A suitable solution for a monitoring of cable joints during the after-laying test and service is partial discharge detection. Specimen obtained 1mm thickness from the insulation of real power cable and cable joint. <중략>The partial discharges are measured to determine their time dependence for 60 minutes and the influence of applied electrical stress under 30kV. $\Phi-q-n$ properties were measured using detection impedance, high pass filter and computerized data acquisition system. Statistic Value like maximum charge, repetition rate, average charge, etc. are calculated. It is possible to quantitative analysis of $\Phi-q-n$ properties from this statistic value and pattern analysis.

  • Recent major domestic facilities, such as nuclear power plants, many control cables are installed and are degraded by long-term use, but research on deterioration diagnosis is lacking. In the event of a fault in the cable due to deterioration can be developed into a major accident such as the main plant is stopped, so the deterioration diagnostic techniques of high reliability for the cable is required. In this paper, proposes a methodology using a cable resonance that can effectively diagnose the deterioration of the cable. Prior to the test, we developed a setup for stable measuring the characteristics of the cable and it verified the suitable of the measurement set-up in terms of interactivity and reliability, also measured S-parameters applying verified measurement set-up to the cables that deterioration degree is different. Then, we had amplified the difference in resonance frequency between the healthy state and the deteriorated state using connection in a series of measured S-parameters. In a result from the method, we have verified that the more deteriorate the cables is, the more decrease the resonance frequency is. Measured results are justified by inducing the resonance frequency calculation of the cable from the S- parameters represented by the hyperbolic function formula. VNA(Vector Network Analyzer) for S-parameter measurements used in this study is Agilent E5061B and shielded twisted-pair cables was used for deterioration diagnostic test.

  • Recently, cable operators are providing broadcast and IP based services using Hybrid Fiber Coaxial(HFC) networks while securing frequency band for video contents and convergence services are becoming an important issue. But, HFC networks have difficulty of securing frequency band, because they are used for broadcasting service based on MPEG. Therefore, it is necessary to find out a method to go broadband. Radio Frequency over Glass(RFoG), one of the methods to go broadband, is advantageous in the sense that it can overcome bandwidth limit and simplifies the structure. In this paper, we find characteristic and standard of RFoG and services. And we also find advantage of RFoG by evaluating performance.

  • When GPS (global positioning system) is used as synchronous signal in CDMA digital cellular base station system and high speed digital synchronous communication network, antenna cable length is increased, comparing with other GPS application such as positioning or car navigation. In this paper, it is proposed that a type of new GPS antenna system including RF stage for reduction of cable loss in case of long cable. The antenna system with TMPA(truncated-corners microstrip patch antenna) is designed and fabricated because GPS signal has RHCP (right-hand circular polarization), consequently antenna size can be made small size. LNA (low noise amplifier) is designed by using HEMT(high electron mobility transistor)which has lower noise figurae and better AGC characteristics at low voltage than GaAs FET, and we equiped mixer, in GPS antenna unit, which converts from 1575.42MHz to 75.42MHz. As result of comparing between typical system and proposed system when cable length is 60m, 63dB, 55dB and 25dB gain are obtained for RG-316/U, RG-58C/U and RG-213/U, and better characteristics are achieved than typical system as far as cable length is longer.

  • As the power demand has increased and power industry deregulation has progressed, the transmission and distribution system will have more complicated problems by the influence of investment reduction and NIMBY phenomena for overall power system. It is expected that the route length per MW demand will reduce gradually from 0.6[C-km/MW] to 0.53 [C-km/MW] in 2010. This comes up to a real serious problem of system planning and operational viewpoints. HTS technologies related to power system have properties to solve these complex transmission and distribution constraints, especially for metropolitan area, in the future. As the HTS technology has developed, the HTS cable technology can be the most effective alternative to solve the future expected power network constraints. This paper describes the application methodology of developing 22.9㎸ HTS cable by CAST for practical distribution system. 22.9㎸ HTS cable under development with step-by-step application methodology can substitute the existing and planning conventional 154㎸ cable. If this scheme is applied, part of downtown 154㎸ substation of metropolitan city such as Seoul can be changed into 22.9㎸ switching station. It can give great economic, environmental and additional benefits to all of the concerned authorities.

  • High temperature superconducting(HTS) power cable is expected to be used for power transmission lines supplying electric power for densely populated cities in the near future. Since HTS power cable is capable of the high current density delivery with low power loss, the cable size can be compact comparing with the conventional cable whose capacity is same. In this paper, the authors propose the real time simulation method which puts a teal HTS wire into the simulated 22.9 kV utility grid system using Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS). For the simulation analysis, test sample of HTS wire was actually manufactured. And the transient phenomenon of the HTS wire was analyzed in the simulated utility power grid. This simulation method is the world first trial in order to obtain much better data for installation of HTS power device into utility network.

  • An implementation for surface EMG network analysis and vertical control system of robotic arm is presented in this paper. The transmembranes are simulated by equivalent circuit and cable equation for propagation to be converted to circuit networks. The implementation is realized to be derived from the detecting EMG signal from 3 electrodes, and EMG transmembrane signals of human arm muscles are detected by several surface electrodes, high performance amplifier and filtering, converting analog to digital data and driving a servomotor for spontaneous robotic arm. The system is experimented by monitoring multiple steps vertical control angles corresponding to biceps muscle movement. The experimental results are that the vertical moving control level is measured to around 2 degrees and mean error ranges are lower 5%.

  • The preliminary stage of structural design is very crucial step whose results have great effects on the structural performance, construction, economy, and aesthetics through the following design stages. However, it is extremely difficult to computerize the information and knowledge used in the preliminary design stage because it lacks of formality of representation of designers' experience and intuition. To address such issue the concept of an artificial neural network has been adopted to develop preliminary design system for cable-stayed bridges in this paper. The artificial neural network has been proved that it has the ability of learning design experience and providing a good design alternative.
