  • Ca or Sr-doped $PrMnO_3$ were prepared for cathode material of solid oxide fuel cell. The characteristics such as the electrical conductivity and the cathodic overpotential were investigated as to doping contents. Also the reactivity with yttria stabilized zirconia of electrolyte, and the thermal expansion coefficient were studied. The prepared perovskite powder had the mean particle size of $2{\sim}5{\mu}m$, and the particle size and the surface area was out of relation to the doping content. When Ca doping amount of electrode material was 30mol%, the electrical conductivity was the highest value of $266S{\cdot}cm^{-1}$ at $1000^{\circ}C$, and also the polarization characteristics showed the best property. The reactivity between YSZ and Ca-doped $PrMnO_3$ at $1200^{\circ}C$ for 100hours was lower than that between YSZ and Sr-doped $PrMnO_3$. The thermal expansion coefficient of $Pr_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}MnO_3$ was $1.19{\times}10^{-5}K^{-1}$ in the temperature range of $300{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$, and this value was similar to that of YSZ, $1.15{\times}10^{-5}K^{-1}$.

  • Aragonite is one of common polymorphs of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and formed via biological or physical processes through precipitation in many different environments including marine ecosystems. It is noted that aragonite formation and growth as well as the substitution of trace elements such as strontium (Sr) in the aragonite structure would be dependant on several key parameters such as concentrations of chemical species and temperature. In this study, properties of the incorporation of Sr into aragonite were investigated over a wide range of various saturation conditions and temperatures similar to the marine ecosystem. All pure aragonite samples were inorganically synthesized through a constant-addition method with varying concentrations of the reactive species ([Ca]=[CO3] 0.01-1 M), injection rates of the reaction solution (0.085-17 mL/min), and solution temperatures (5-40 ℃). Pure aragonite was also formed even under the Sr incorporation conditions (0.02-0.5 M, 15-40 ℃). When temperature and saturation index (SI) with respect to aragonite increased, the crystallinity and the crystal size of aragonite increased indicating the growth of aragonite crystal. However, it was difficult to interpret the crystal growth rate because the crystal growth rate calculated using BET-specific surface area was significantly influenced by the crystal morphology. The distribution coefficient of Sr (KSr) into aragonite decreased from 2.37 to 1.57 with increasing concentrations of species (Ca2+ and CO32-) at a range of 0.02-0.5 M. Similarly, it was also found that KSr decreased 1.90 to 1.54 at a range of 15-40 ℃. All KSr values are greater than 1, and the inverse correlation between the KSr and the crystal growth rate indicate that Sr incorporation into aragonite is in a compatible relationship.

  • The ($Sr_{1-x}Ca_x)TiO_3$(SCT) thin films are deposited on Pt-coated electrode($Pt/TiN/SiO_2/Si$) using RF sputtering method with substitutional contents of Ca. The maximum grain of thin films is obtained by substitution of Ca at 15[mol%]. All SCT thin films had (111) preferred orientation. The dielectric constant was increased with increasing the substitutional contents of Ca, while it was decreased if the substitutional contents of Ca exceeded over 15[mol%]. The dielectric constant changes almost linearly in temperature ranges of -80~+90[$^{\circ}C$]. The temperature properties of the dielectric loss have a stable value within 0.02 independent of the substitutional contents of Ca. All SCT thin films used in this study show the phenomena of dielectric relaxation with the increase of frequency, and the relaxation frequency is observed above 200[kHz].

  • Skeletal muscle cells are activated by ${\alpha}$-motorneurons which release acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction. This results in a local depolarization of surface membrane which triggers an action potential. The action potential propagates along the surface membrane and also into the T-tubule system. In the triads T-tubules are in close connection with the terminal cisternae of the sarcoplasmic reticulum(SR). The action potential activaies T-tubule voltage sensors(DHP receptors). which activates SR Ca$^{2+}$ release channels(ryanodinc receptors). Ca$^{2+}$ have a key role in skeletal muscle in that an increase of free myoplasmic Ca$^{2+}$ concentration. The process of coupling chemical and electrical signals at the cell surface to the intracellular release of Ca$^{2+}$and ultimate contraction of muscle fibers is termed excitation-contraction coupling(ECC). Coupling of cel1 surface signals to intracellular Ca$^{2+}$ release proceeds by several mechanisms in skeletal muscle cells. This review focus on sarcopiasmic reticulum(SR) Ca$^{2+}$ releasing mechanisms from sarcoplasmic reticulum in the skeletal muscle. The mechanisms include DCCR, CICR, and HCR.

  • To investigate the properties of ryanodine binding sites of the bird skeletal SR vesicles, SDS PAGE, purification of RyR, and $[^3H]ryanodine$ binding study were carried out in the SR vesicles prepared from the chicken pectoral muscle. The chicken SR vesicles have two high molecular weight (HMW) protein bands as in eel SR vesicles on SDS PAGE. The HMW bands on SDS PAGE were found in the $[^3H]ryanodine$ peak fraction $(Fr_{3-5})$ obtained from the purification step of the ryanodine receptor protein. Bmax and KD of the chicken $[^3H]ryanodine$ binding sites were 12.52 pmol/mg protein and 14.53 nM, respectively. Specific $[^3H]ryanodine$ binding was almost maximal at $50{\sim}100$ ${\mu}M$ $Ca^{2+}$, but was not increased by 5 mM AMP and not inhibited by high $Ca^{2+}$. Binding was significantly inhibited by $20{\sim}100$ ${\mu}M$ ruthenium red and 1 mM tetracaine, but slightly inhibited by $Mg^{2+}$. From the above results, it is suggested that chicken SR vesicles have the ryanodine binding sites to which the binding of ryanodine is almost maximal at $50{\sim}10$ ${\mu}M$ $Ca^{2+}$, is significantly inhibited by ruthenium red and tetracaine, slightly inhibited by $Mg^{2+}$, but not affected by AMP and not inhibited by high $Ca^{2+}$.

  • The phase transformations and luminescent properties of Eu-doped $Ca_{1-x}Sr_xAl_2O_4$ phosphors were investigated. $Ca_{1-x}Sr_xAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$ phosphors were synthesized by a solid-state reaction with a flux, $H_3BO_3$. A phase transformation from monoclinic $CaAl_2O_4$ to monoclinic $SrAl_2O_4$ was observed as the x values increased. A high-temperature hexagonal phase of $SrAl_2O_4$ was formed during this transformation as an intermediate phase under an $H_2$ atmosphere due to oxygen vacancies; this did not occur in an air atmosphere. Accordingly, the emission spectra shifted from a blue region to a green region as x increased.

  • The red emission properties of $Mn^{4+}$ doped $SrAl_{12}O_{19}$ prepared by the solid-state reaction was investigated, in order to verify its potential to act as the red emitting phosphor of white LEDs. The emission spectrum exhibits a narrow band between $600{\sim}700 nm $ with four sharp peaks occurring at about 643, 656, 666, 671 nm due to the $^2E\to^4A_2$ transition of $Mn^{4+}$. The excitation spectrum exhibits a broad band between $200{\sim}500 nm$ with three peaks occurring at about 338, 398 and 468 nm, respectively. Moreover, the relative emission intensity of $SrAl_{12}O_{19}:Mn^{4+}$ with or without $CaF_2$ and MgO fluxes measured at excitation source 390 nm. The relative emission intensity of $SrAl_{12}O_{19}:Mn^{4+}$ containing 0.67mol% MgO was approximately 30% higher than that of the base composition sample. Strontium hexa-aluminate measured at room temperature as a function of the substituted Mg concentration. MgO was added to replace part of the $Al_2O_3$. Also, the relative emission intensity of $SrAl_{12}O_{19}:Mn^{4+}$ containing 0.67 mol% MgO and 0.67 mol% $CaF_2$ was approximately about 48% higher than that of the base composition $SrAl_{12}O_{19}:Mn^{4+}$.

  • Sodium alginate and chitosan are added to a $CaCl_2$ solution to prepare calcium-alginate-chitosan and calciumalginate gels. After dehydration through stoving, two types of adsorbent particles are obtained. The adsorption process of the particles obtained for low concentrations of $Sr^{2+}$ satisfies a second-order kinetic equation and the Freundlich adsorption model. The thermodynamic behaviors of the particles indicate that adsorption occurs via a spontaneous physical process. XPS pattern analysis is used to demonstrate the adsorption of $Sr^{2+}$ by calcium alginate and chitosan. By building an interaction model of the molecules of chitosan and alginate with $Ca^{2+}$ and $Sr^{2+}$ to calculate energy parameters, Fukui index, Mulliken charge, and Mulliken population, adsorption of $Sr^{2+}$ on the molecular chains of chitosan as well as the boundary of calcium-alginate-chitosan is observed to show weak stability; by contrast, adsorption between molecular chains is high.

  • A well oriented Bi-2212 superconductor thick films were fabricated by screen printing with a Cu-free Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O powder on a copper plate and heat-treating at 820- $880^{\circ}C$for several minute in low oxygen pressure or are. At minute in low oxygen pressure of air. At , the printing layer partially melted by reaction between the Cu-free precursor by reaction between the Cu-free$870^{\circ}C$ precursor and CuO of the oxidizing copper plate. It is believed that the solid phase is Bi : Sr : Ca : Cu = 2 : 2 : 0 : 1. It is likely that the Bi-2212 superconducting phase is formed at Bi-2212 superconducting phase is formed at Bi-free phase/liquid interface by nucleation and grows.
