  • The effect of $CaCo_3$, $SrCo_3$, $SiO_2$ and $H_3BO_3$ in the range of 0.1-1.0 wt% on strontium ferrites consisting of the magnetoplumbite phase $SrO-5.7Fe_2O_3$ were investigated. The hysteresis loop, density, demagnetization curve and the intrinsic coercive force were measured on anisotropic ferrite. The particle diameter and 0.5(wt%) of second additive $CaCo_3$ is particularly important for the properties of anisotropic ferrite. When the particle diameter is decreased from 1.98(${\mu}m$) to 1.07(${\mu}m$), the remance is increased from 2900 to 4010(G) and the coercive force from 2150 to 2850(Oe) at a sintering temperature 1230 ($^{\circ}C$). Remance Br(G), coercleve force(Oe) and maximum energy product of sample A-16 are87(%), 56(%), 67(%) of S-W model theoretical value.

  • This research experimentally evaluated the recyclability of four varieties of lignocellulosic fly ash(FA), a by-product from three power plants employing lignocellulosic biomass(Bio-SRF, wood pellets) as a fuel source. Comprehensive analyses were conducted on FA, encompassing both physical parameters (particle shape, size distribution, fineness, and density) and chemical properties(chemical composition and heavy metal content). Mortar test specimens, with FA mixing ratios ranging from 5 to 20%, were produced in compliance with KS L 5405 standards, and their flow and compressive strength were subsequently measured. The test results indicated that the four types of FA exhibited particle sizes approximately between 20~30㎛, densities around 2.3~2.5g/cm3, and a fineness range of 2,600~4,900cm2/g. The FA comprised approximately 50~90% of components such as SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, and CaO, displaying characteristics akin to type-II and type-III FA of KS L 5405 standards, albeit with differences in chlorine and SiO2 content. From the mortar tests, it was observed that the compressive strength of the mortar ranged between 34~47MPa when the pellet combustion FA was mixed in proportions of 5~20%. FA, produced exclusively from the combustion of 100% lignocellulosic fuel, is assessed to possess high recyclability potential as a substitute for conventional admixtures.

  • The effects of thermal properties on the crystallization behavior of $CaMgSi_2O_6$ glass-ceramics were investigated as a function of sintering temperature from 800$^{\circ}C$ to 900$^{\circ}C$. The crystallization behavior of the specimens depended on the sintering temperature, which could be evaluated from the differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. With increasing sintering temperature, the thermal conductivity of the sintered specimens increased, while the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of the sintered specimens decreased. These results could be attributed to the increase of crystallization, confirmed from the estimation by density measurements. Also, the thermal diffusivity and specific heat capacity of the sintered specimens were discussed with relation to the sintering temperature. Typically, a thermal conductivity of 3.084 $W/m^{\circ}C$, CTE of 8.049 $ppm/^{\circ}C$, thermal diffusivity of 1.389 $mm^2/s$ and specific heat capacity of 0.752 $J/g^{\circ}C$ were obtained for $CaMgSi_2O_6$ specimens sintered at 900$^{\circ}C$ for 5 h.

  • We report major element chemistry of the Chuncheon amphibolite in the Precambrian Kyonggi massif and discuss its origin. On the basis of areal distribution and chemical difference, the Chuncheon amphibolite can be divided into the Gubongsan arnphibolite in the Gubongsan Group east of Chuncheon city and the Sangguli amphibolite in the Yongduri gneiss complex occurring to the southeast of the Gubongsan Group. Overall major element characteristics of the Chuncheon amphibolite indicate an igneous precursor, although it shows concordant relationship with metasedimentary rocks in many cases. The parental rock of the amphibolite has tholeiitic composition with 45-53wt% $SiO_2$. The Sangguli amphibolite has lower MgO than the Gubongsan one. The difference in $TiO_2$/P_2O_5 ratio between the two amphibolites suggests that they are not genetically related. In MgO variation diagrams, $Na_2O$, $Fe_2O_3$ and $Al_2O_3$ show scattered pattern, while MgO has positive correlation with CaO and negative one with $SiO_2$, $TiO_2$, $P-2O_5$ and $K_2O$. These variations can be interpreted as the result of differentiation of basaltic magma with fractionation of olivine, pyroxene, and plagioclase. Tectonic discrimination using major elements generally suggest withinplate environment for the Chuncheon amphibolite which is similar to that of the amphibolite in the Ogcheon belt.

  • Plate-type phosphor is a promising substitute in overcoming the issues related to the powder phosphor paste mixed with resin. In this research, $Ca-{\alpha}-SiAlON:Eu^{2+}$ plate phosphor ($Ca_xSi_{12-(m+n)}Al_{m+n}O_nN_{16-n}:Eu_y$) was investigated for the varied compositions (m,n) of the host crystal with the fixed Eu content (y). Densification was promoted for the compositions with increasing 'm' values for the m=2n relationship. Dictated by the Eu concentration inside the phosphor crystal, photoluminescence intensity was stronger in ${\alpha}2$ specimen (m = 3.0, n = 1.5) containing the second phases when compared to ${\alpha}1$ specimen (m = 1.5, n = 0.75) comprising a single-phase ${\alpha}$-SiAlON. The concentration of Eu in the non-emitting amorphous interfacial glass phase was 2~4 times of the designed Eu concentration inside the ${\alpha}$-SiAlON crystal.

  • In this study, lanthanum boron silicate glasses were prepared with a composition of x Li2O-(60-x)B2O3-5CaO-5BaO-7ZnO-10SiO2-10La2O3-3Y2O3 where x = 1,3,5,7, and 9 mol%. Each composition was melted in a platinum crucible under atmospheric conditions at 1,400 ℃ for 2 h. Clear glasses with a transmittance exceeding 85 % were fabricated. Their optical, thermal, and physical properties, such as refractive index, Abbe number, density, glass transition (Tg) and Knoop hardness were studied. The results demonstrated that refractive index was between 1.6859 and 1.6953 at 589.3 nm. The Abbe number was calculated using an equation for 589.3 nm (nd), 656.3 nm (nf) and 486.1 nm (nc) and was observed to be in the range from 57.5 to 62.6. As the Li2O content increased, the glass transition temperature of the optical glass decreased from 608 ℃ to 564 ℃. If glass mold pressing is performed using a material with a low transition temperature and high mechanical strength, then the optical glasses developed in this study can be completely commercialized.

  • Diopside (CaMgSi2O6) is known to have high bioactivity as well as excellent mechanical properties. In this study, we tried to improve the bioactivity of zirconia ceramics by surface coating of diopside and its bioactivity was investigated through an in vitro test. Surface coating on zirconia substrate was prepared by sol-gel method using a diopside sol which was prepared by dissolving Ca(NO3)2·4H2O, MgCl2·6H2O and Si(OC2H5)4 in ethanol with a fixed molar ratio and then hydrolysis. To examine the bioactivity of diopside coating, we examined the surface dissolution and the precipitation of new hydroxyapatite particles through in vitro test in SBF (Simulated Body Fluid) solution. Dense and thick diopside coating layers could be fabricated on zirconia substrate by sol-gel method. Also, we confirmed that they contained high bioactivity from the in vitro test, indicated the precipitation of hydroxyapatite particles after the 14 days immersion in SBF solution. In addition, we checked that the bioactivity of diopside coated layers was dependent on the repeated coating cycle and coating thickness.

  • Geochemical and isotopic analyses were carried out to investigate hydrochemical characteristics, source of carbon species in the carbonated waters in South Korea. Most Korean carbonated waters from different geologic settings are characterized by a Ca-HCO$_3$type with a relatively low pH range from 5.3 to 6.3 (avg. 6.0). The concentrations of cations and anions in the carbonate waters are in the order of Ca$^{2+}$>Na$^{+}$>Mg$^{2+}$>Si$^{4+}$>Fe$^{2+}$>K$^{+}$ and HCO$_3$$^{-}$>SO$_4$$^{2-}$>Cl$^{-}$, respectively. The HCO$_3$$^{-}$ ion is more enriched in the carbonated water from the sedimentary rock and granitic rock of Mesozoic age in the Gyungsang basin(GII) and the Precambrian metamorphic rock and Jurassic granitic rocks of the Gyunggj massif in the Gangwon province(GⅠ) than those of the meta-sedimentary rock and granite in the Ogcheon zone(GⅢ). Based on the oxygen and hydrogen isotopic data, the carbonated waters are derived from the meteoric water, showing apparent latitude and altitude effects. The $delta$$^{13}$C values of carbon species in the carbonated water are in between -6.23 and 0.0 $textperthousand$, suggesting inorganic source of carbon originated from the carbonate mineral and carbonate rock in the aquifer.

  • The study area is mostly composed of Precambrian Gyeonggi gneiss complex, Jurassic Daebo granites, Cretaceous tonalite and dykes, and so on. On the basis of field survey and mineral assemblage, the granites can be divided into three types; biotite granite (Gb), garnet biotite granite (Ggb) and two mica granite (Gtm). They predominantly belong to monzo-granites from the modes. Field relationship and K-Ar mica age data in the surrounding area suggest that intrusive sequences are older in order of Gtm, Ggb and Gb. Gb and Ggb, major study targets, occur as medium-coarse grained rocks, and show light grey and light grey-light pink colors, respectively. Mineral constituents are almost similar except for opaque in Gb and garmet in Ggb. Gb and Ggb have felsic, peraluminous, subalkaline and calc alkaline natures. In Harker diagram, both rocks show moderately negative trends of $TiO_2$, MgO, CaO, $Al_2O_3$, $Fe_2O_3$(t), $K_2O$ and $P_2O_5$ as $SiO_2$ contents increase. Among them, $TiO_2$, MgO and CaO show two linear trends. From the trends and the linear patterns in AFM, Sr-Ba and Rb-Ba-Sr relations, it is likely that they were originated from the same granitic magma and Ggb was differentiated later than Gb. REE concentrations normalized to chondrite value have trends of parallel LREE enrichment and HREE depletion. One data of Ggb showing a gradually enriched HREE trend may be caused by garnet accompaniment. Ggb have more negative Eu anomalies than Gb, suggesting that plagioclase fractionation in Ggb have occurred much stronger than that in Gb. In modal (Qz+Af) vs. Op, Gb and Ggb belong to magnetite-series and ilmenite-series, respectively. From the EPMA results, opaques of Gb are magnetite and ilmenite, and those of Ggb are magnetite-free ilmenite or not observed. Bimodal distribution of magnetic susceptibility reveals two different granites of Gb (332.6 ${mu}SI$) and Ggb (2.3 ${mu}SI$). Based on the paleomagnetic analysis as well as modal analysis, the main susceptibilities of Gb and Ggb reside in magnetite and mafic minerals, respectively. They belong to S-type granite of non-magnetic granite by susceptibility value. In addition, $SiO_2$ contents, $K_2O/Na_2O$, A/CNK molar ratio and ACF diagram support that they all belong to S-type granites.

  • To fabricate white LED having a high color rendering index value, red color phosphor mixed with the green color phosphor together in the blue chip, namely the blue chips with RG phosphors packaging is most favorable for high power white LEDs. In our previous papers, we reported on successful syntheses of $Sr_{2-}$ $Si_5N_8:Eu^{2+}$ and $CaAlSiN_3$ phosphors for red phosphor. In this work, for high power green phosphor, greenemitting ternary nitride $Ba_3Si_6O_{12}N_2:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor was synthesized in a high frequency induction furnace under $N_2$ gas atmosphere at temperatures up to $1400^{\circ}C$ using $EuF_3$ as a raw material for $Eu^{2+}$ dopant. The effects of molar ratio of component and experimental conditions on luminescence property of prepared phosphors have been investigated. The structure and luminescence properties of prepared $Ba_3Si_6O_{12}N_2:Eu^{2+}$ phosphors were investigated by XRD and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The excitation spectra of $Ba_3Si_6O_{12}N_2:Eu^{2+}$ phosphors indicated broad excitation wavelength range of 250 - 500 nm, namely from UV to blue region with distinct enhanced emission spectrum peaking at ${\approx}530nm$.
