The amount of generated Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion ash (CFBC ash) is annually increasing, but most CFBC ash has been landfilled and discarded due to the limited utilization. The major chemical compositions of CFBC ash are $SiO_2$, CaO and $CaSO_4$, which could form hydration products by reacting with water as self-cementing property such as cement. The purpose of the this study is to derive the optimal mix proportions to improve polymer-modified mortar with the use of CFBC ash which has the self-cementing property. In order to develop polymer-modified mortar, three mix proportions were determined, and fundamental properties for the mixtures were obtained. As a result, the optimal mixture containing 10 percent of silica fume, 1.0 percent of polymer and 3.5 percent of expansive additives were proposed in this study.

Low-temperature solder glass for use in electronic package was experimentally prepared and its crystallization behavior was investigated using differential thermal analysis (DTA) under nonisothermal condition. The composition of the solder glass was determined from PbO-ZnO-$B_2$$O_3$-$TiO_2$ glasses containing small amounts of CaO, $SiO_2$$A1_2$$O_3$ and $P_2$$O_5$. The crystallization exotherm corresponding to the formation of lead titanate (PbTiO$_3$) was observed. The crystallization of $PbTiO_3$was a three-dimensional process with the average activation energy of 223$\pm$3 kJ/mol for the crystallization from the glass matrix.

Gamma-C2S (γ-C2S) is a substance that is difficult to react with water under normal temperature but can absorb a large amount of CO2 in the air. The addition of γ-C2S to cementitious materials through the curing of CO2 can improve the pore structure and improve the durability of the material. In this study, three kind of Ca-bearing materials : CaO, Ca(OH)2, CaCO3, were calcined 2.5h at 1450℃ to synthesize γ-C2S after mixing with SiO2 respectively. Among them, Ca(OH)2 mixed with SiO2 after calcining shows highest content. Synthesized γ-C2S was added to the cement mortar, after water curing for 1 month, accelerated carbonation test was experimented. After 28d accelerated carbonation test, pore structure will be detectived by MIP. Based on the MIP result, following the calculation method of Fractal theory, the pore structure will be quantitative described.
This study reports the results about the petrography and geochemical characteristics of 10 representative volacanic rocks. The Cretaceous volcanic rocks distributed in the vicinity of the Kageo island composed of andesitic rocks, dacitic welded tuff, and rhyolitic rocks in ascending order. Sedimentary rock is the basement in the study area covered with volcanic rocks. Andesitic rocks composed of pyroclastic volcanic breccia, lithic lapilli tuff and cryptocrystallin lava-flow. Most dacitic rocks are lapilli ash-flow welded tuff. Rhyolitic rocks consists of rhyolite tuff and rhyolite lava flow. Rhyolite tuff are lithic crystal ash-flow tuff and crystal vitric ash-flow tuff with somewhat accidental fragments of andesitic rocks, but dacitic rocks. The variation of major and trace element of the volcanic rocks show that contents of $Al_2O_3$, FeO, CaO, MgO, $TiO_2$ decrease with increasing of $SiO_2$. On the basis of Variation diagrams such as $Al_2O_3$ vs. CaO, Th/Yb vs. Ta/Yb, and $Ce_N/YB_N$ vs. $Ce_N$, these rocks represent mainly differentiation trend of calc-alkaline rock series. On the discriminant diagrams such as Ba/La and La/Th ratio, Rb vs. Y + Nb, the volcanic rocks in study area belongs to high-K Orogenic suites, with abundances of trace element and ternary diagram of K, Na, Ca. According to the tectonic discriminant diagram by Wood, these rocks falls into the diestructructive continental margin. K-Ar ages of whole rocks are from andesite to rhyolite $97.0{\pm}6.8~94.5{\pm}6.6,\68.9{\pm}4.8,\61.5{\pm}4.9~60.7{\pm}4.2$ Ma, repectively. Volcanic rocks in study area show well correlation to the Yucheon Group in terms of rock age dating and geochemcial data, and derived from andesitic calc-alkaline magma that undergone low pressure fractional crystallization dominated plagioclase at <30km.

When steel contaminated with Pb, produced by the decay of natural radionuclides, is remelted, Pb distributes among the metal, slag, and gas phases. In this study, 5 wt%Pb was added to Fe and melted with CaO-SiO2-Al2O3-MgO slag to investigate Pb's distribution in the metal/slag/gas. As slag basicity ((wt%CaO)/(wt%SiO2)) increased, Pb solubility in Fe slightly increased, while Pb in the slag tended to decrease. Consequently, the slag/metal distribution ratio of Pb decreased with increasing basicity. Thermodynamic calculations revealed that the slag/Fe phase distribution ratio of Pb remained very low irrespective of the activity coefficient of PbO in the slag, consistent with the experimental results. The calculated evaporation rate of Pb in Fe-Pb was approximately 22 times that of Fe; hence, most of the Pb evaporated into the gas phase.
This study was to investigate physical properties of the system $Ca(Mg_{1-x}Al_x) (Si_{2-x}Al_x)O_6$ by quenching method. This system $\chi$=0.1 to 0.3 had same crystal phase microstructure and similar properties. Bulk density microhardness thermal expansion coefficient and modulus of rupture of these solid solutions were 2.87~2.95g/cm3 850~900kg/$mm^2$, $7.5~7.8{\times}10^{-6}$/$^{\circ}C$ and 1950~1980kg/$cm^2$ respectively.
We smelted thc pellets made by mixing the distilled carbon from wlISte Lires, LD converter dust and slag with reduction process in the revcrberatory furnace. Thc obtained results are as follows 1) The removal mte of zinc appears above 97% after T reducing the pellets at $1300^{\circ}C$ for Ihr and the zinc content in the residue are 0.1~D.2%. 2) Under the mixing condition of 500 g LD dust. 150-200 g LD slag and 30-50 g distilled carbon of waste lires the removal raho of zinc shows above 95%, while t the 50-60% Fe remains in the residue. 3) After smelting at $1350^{\circ}C$ for 3hrs, the recovery ratio of pig iron reduced from lhe p pellets containing 15-20% LD slag and 4.1-7.2% distilled carbon of waste tires appears in the range of 89.3-92%. 4) Tbe c chemical composition of the recovered pig iron is 1.7%C, O.05%P, 0.05%S and balance Fe. 5) Tbe recovered dust from the d dust collcctor alter finishing the reduction rcaction appears as a crude zinc oxide conLaining 60% zinc.
The Weolaksan and Sokrisan granites yield high SiO2 and alkali (Na2O+K2O) contents and low CaO and P2O5 contents. The Al saturation index is ≥1.3, which indicates that the granites are peraluminous. The mean U and Th contents are 8.3 and 39.3 ppm, respectively, higher than typical Mesozoic granites in South Korea and about twice the global mean for granitic rocks. The causes of such high radioelement contents are related to high degrees of fractionation and the crustal origin of the granites. U- and Thbearing radioactive minerals occur in the granites include zircon, thorite, monazite, xenotime, fergusonite and uraninite. The fact that the mean Th/U ratio of the granites (5.4) is similar to the global average crustal value suggests that the radioelement contents of granite were controlled by the crustal source material. Given the correlation of Zr, Y, and heavy rare earth elements for U and Th, radioelements are more likely hosted by xenotime than zircon and monazite.
In order to find out the basic information for salt tolerance in vice (Oryza sativa L.), effects of NaCl treatment on absorption of inorganic components and growth were investigated in 6 japonica and 5 tongil varieties and compared to the salt tolerance variety, Annapurna. The absorption of N and $\textrm{P}_2\textrm{O}_5$ was less repressed than that of $\textrm{K}_2\textrm{O}$, MgO, CaO, and $\textrm{Si}\textrm{O}_2$ which were a little affected by NaCl treatment. $\textrm{K}_2\textrm{O}$ was the most highly repressed component in the absorption of inorganic components, followed by MgO, CaO, total-N, $\textrm{P}_2\textrm{O}_5$ and $\textrm{Si}\textrm{O}_2$. $\textrm{Na}_2\textrm{O}$ content was increased about twenty times to the control at 30days after NaCl treatment, and tonsil varieties more than absorbed japonica ones. Dry weight of japonica varieties by NaCl treatment was less reduced than that of tonsil varieties, followed by Seomjinbyeo, Sinseonchalbyeo, Nakdongbyeo, Daechoungbyeo, Dongjinbyeo and Chuchoungbyeo in japonica group, and Milyang30, Gayeabyeo, Jangseongbyeo, Chilseongbyeo and Taebackbyeo in tonsil group. The relationship between dry weight reduction and Na/K ratio showed positively significant correlation in rice.
The possible use of bioglass,, which is one of the surface active biomaterials, as implants materials has drawn great attention due to their ability to bond to human living tissue. In the present work, the investigation was carried out to find the bonding phenomena between alumina substrate and bioglass(45S5) or fluorine-containing bioglass(45S5$.$4F), and the properties of coated bioglass. The stable bonding between alumina and bioglass was formed when heat-treated at 1150$^{\circ}C$ for 120 minutes or at 1250$^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes for the 45S5, and at 1150$^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes for the 45S5$.$4F. When bioglass coated alumina was heat-treated, great amount of Al was diffused into bioglass from alumina substrate. More Al was diffused into fluorine-containing bioglass than into bioglass without fluorine. At early stage of heat-tretment, the diffused alumina content was increased with the square root of time and it was also increased with the thickness of coating layer and heat-treatment temperatures. The alumina content became constant after its saturation for longer heat-treatment time. Coated bioglasses were crystallized to Na2O$.$CaO$.$3SiO2 when heat-treated at lower temperature, and to CaO$.$SiO2 at higher temperature.
