In the previous paper, it was reported that formation of desirable calcium alunimate(CA) in clinker was considerably affected by sulfur-contaminated alumina which was prone to form a disadvantageous mineral, $C_4A_3S$. In this study, however, sulphate-free alumina cement was made from sulfur-free alumina refined from alunite and corresponding materials. The major minerals in the clinker were identified by X-ray diffraction patterns as calcium aluminate (CA), calcium dialuminate $(CA_2)$ and dicalcium alumino silicate $(C_2AS)$. The formation of CA was more effective with decreasing contents of silica to 2 per cent or less and sulfur in the refined alumina. Physical properties of prepared alumina cement such as setting time, stability and compressive strength were measured. The values were similar to those of commercial alumina cements.
Hydration processes of the rapid hardening cement clinkers, which were synthesized from domestic alunite for major alumina source, limestone, kaolin and fluorite, were investigated by means of x-ray diffraction analysis, thermal analysis and microscopic observation etc. The clinkers were composed mainly of alite, calcium fluroaluminate (C11A7.CaF2) minerals. While the hydratio processes of the clinkers are altered by concentration of SO3 in the paste, calcium aluminate hydrates such as C4AH13, CAH10 and calcium monosulfate hydrate (C3A.CaSO4.12H2O) are formed at first and then some of them are transformed into ettringite(C3A.3CaSO4.32H2O) within 30~60 min. when the concentration of SO3 in the paste are enough. However the formed ettringite are changed slowly into calcium monosulfate hydrate as the concentration of SO3 become lowered, and the paste is hardened with these close-packed minerals. When the content of SO3 in clinker is so enough, calcium sulfoaluminate hydrates are found without any addition of anhydrite or hemi-hydrite.
The hydration of $C_3A$ and $C_3A-CaSO_4$.$2H_2O$ was investigated with varying concentration (0.1-1.0%) of sodium gluconate solution. gluconate solution. Sodium gluconate accelerates cation dissolution from $C_3A$ for the first several minutes but depresses the rate of heat evolution in the course of $C_3A$ hydration. The hydration of $C_3A$ in the presence of sodium gluconate was modified such that the formation of the intermediate hydrate C4AH$\chi$ crystal was much reduced and most of the product became amorphous. The retardation of $C_3A-CaSO_4$.$2H_2O$ hydration in the presence of sodium gluconate was controlled by the competitive adsorption between gluconate anion and $SO_4^{-2}$ onto $C_3A$ surface.
In this paper, We have studied internal quality incluiding chemical compositions, microscopic structrue and nonmetalic inclusion of test materials. We have analyzed dynamic characteristics of cutting resistence including tensile strength value, hardeness value, impact value etcs. We have compared chip treatments of test materials. In analyzing internal quality, all of test materials have typical ferrite+pearlite structure. But, nonmetallic inclusion have oxide and sulfide inclusion in medium carbon steels, mainly sulfide inclusion is existed in S-free cutting steels. In Ca+S-free cutting steels, calcium aluminate and sulfide complex inclusion, had low-melting points, as deformation of sulfide and oxide inclusion is existed. machining characteristics, cutting resistence is maximum in Ca+S-free cutting steels, minimum in medium carbon steels. Chip treatements are excellent in S-free cutting steels, similar to the Ca+S free cutting steels and medium carbon steels.
This present study was carried out to find the effects of calcium aluminate cement($CaO\;{\cdot}\;Al_2O_3$, CAC), which has been developed with bio-compatibility and mechanical properties, in biological environments. Two different particle sizes of CAC - 3.5${\mu}m$ vs. 212${\sim}$250${\mu}m$ which is recommended in periodontal bone grafting procedures-were filled in 8mm calvarial defect in Sprague-Dawley rat. The specimens were examined histologically, especially the bone-cement interface and the response of surrounding tissues. The results are as follows; 1. In the control group, inflammatory cells were observed at 2 weeks. At 8 weeks, periosteum and dura mater were continuously joined together in the defect areas. But in the center of defect area were filled up with the loose connective tissues. 2. In the experimental group l($212{\mu}m{\sim}250{\mu}m$ particle), immature bone was formed and outermost layer was surrounded by osteoid layer at 2 weeks. Osteoblasts were arranged between immature bone and osteoid layer. And, osteoid layer was remained until 8 weeks after surgery. 3. In the experimental group 2, periosteum and dura mater lost its continuity at 2 weeks. Scattering of CAC particles and infiltration of inflammatory cells were observed, which this findings deepened at 8 weeks. The result of this study shows that when calvarial defects in white rats are filled with calcium aluminate cement of 212${\sim}$250${\mu}m$, the materials are to be bio-compatible in growth and healing on surrounding tissues. When further researches are fulfilled, such as direct bone adhesion and bone regeneration ability, it's possible that CAC could be applied to various periodontology fields in the future.
A converter slag has been heat-treated above melting point at reduced condition by cokes. As the result, most iron was separated. To make hydraulic compounds, calcium oxide was added to the reduced converter slag and the mixtures were sintered. This modified converter slag clinker mainly contained tricalcium silicate and calcium aluminates, and have a great potential to be a good hydraulic cement. The hydrates of the hydraulic compounds and gypsum with and without granulated slags, were mainly C-S-H, ettringite, calcium monosulfoaluminate hydrate, calcium aluminate hydrate, and $Ca(OH)_2$
This paper presents the synthesis results of CaO-Al2O3 system clinker using the CaCO3 and the Al2O3 according to the synthesis methods dependent on the temperature. The purpose of this study is the formation of the CaO-Al2O3 system clinker containing high ratio of CaO·2Al2O3 (CA2). The maximum sintering temperature for the synthesis of CaO-Al2O3 compounds was 1250℃, 1300℃ and 1400℃. The CaO-Al2O3 compounds was sintered at the maximum sintering temperature for three hours. After sintering, the compounds was analyzed using X-ray diffraction method. The 12CaO·7Al2O3 (C12A7) and CaO·Al2O3 (CA) increased as elevating the maximum sintering temperature whereas the CA2 decreased. Especially, at the 1250℃ of maximum sintering temperature, the un-reacted CaO and Al2O3 was identified.
The castable refractory, CaO.$2Al_2O_3$ is a useful alumina cement for iron, steel and cement for iron, steel and cement industries, however it is difficult to produce CaO.$2Al_2O_3$because of its high melting point(180$0^{\circ}C$) and narrow firing range. In this study, the coprecipitation method was used to produce CaO.$2Al_2O_3$ for lower temperature firing . This method involved the titration of mixed solution of calicum and aluminate which extracted from domestic kaolin with $NH4_OH$ solution under blowing $CO_2$ gas into the solution. The coprecipitate and its clacined products were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and DTA. The calcined products fired between 400 and 90$0^{\circ}C$ were amorphous, but at 100$0^{\circ}C$ the coprecipitate was converted into one compound, CaO$2Al_2O_3$. From those experimental results, it was found that we could synthesizze CaO.$2Al_2O_3$ at about 100$0^{\circ}C$ which is lower than conventional firing temperature by around 80$0^{\circ}C$. The refractoriness of this alumina cement was SK 34 and the compressive strength ( 1 day) was about 250kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$.
Soft marine clay deposits pose several foundation problems. Generally, lime stabilization is used worldwide for solidifying of soft marine clay deposits. In this paper, a series of laboratory tests were conducted to verify clay-lime reaction. A clay was collected from Pusan, which was mixed with various quantities of quick lime and slaked lime. Various compounds produced by clay-lime reaction were identified by X-ray diffraction analysis. The physico-chemical properties of the clay were also investigated. Compounds such as calcium silicate hydrate (CSH), calcium aluminate hydrate (CAH), calcium aluminate (CA), hillebrandite, and gehlenite were identified. It is likely that such compounds were mainly produced by pozzolanic reaction. Based on the change of physico-chemical properties obtained by the reaction, the water content was considerably decreased when lime was added to the clay. In addition, unconfined strength was increased. In the other hand, quick lime was more effective than slaked lime in decreasing and increasing of the water content and unconfined strength, respectively. Fewer cracks were produced when the clay was mixed with quick lime. It is suggested that these beneficial changes produced by the mixing of the clay and lime depend on the properties of compounds obtained by chemical reaction.
In this study, a cobalt sulfate ceramic coating was sintered on various clays at $1250^{\circ}C$. The specimen characteristics were investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), TG-DTA, UV-vis spectrophotometer, and HRDPM. The ceramic coating had a constant thickness of thousands ${\mu}m$, and the surface was confirmed to be densely fused. Other new compounds were produced by the cobalt sulfate sintering process and reactions. These compounds were a $CoAl_2O_4$ phase, $Co_2SiO_4$ phase, anorthite($CaAl_2Si_2O_8$) phase, and $FeAl_2O_4$ phase, respectively. UV properties of the coated specimen were investigated, celadon clay specimen in 530-550 nm band is showing a dark gray color. The white clay and white mix clay specimen in 460-500 nm band is showing a blue color. The cobalt-aluminate($CoAl_2O_4$) spinel and the cobalt-silicate olivine($Co_2SiO_4$) were the strongest of the ceramic pigments, producing a very pure, navy blue color.
