The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation of Ca-Mg complex on the longevity and reproductive performance of sows. In total, seventy-two gilts ([Yorkshire × Landrace] × Duroc, average body weight 181 kg) were randomly allocated to 1 of 3 treatments during 4 successive parity in a 4 × 3 factorial arrangement. Treatments consisted of CON (basal diet), CM1 (basal diet -MgO - 0.3% limestone + 0.4% Ca-Mg complex), and CM2 (basal diet - MgO - 0.7% limestone + 0.4% Ca-Mg complex). A higher (p < 0.05) number of totals born and live piglets, and sows increased feed intake during gestation and lactation, increased backfat thickness, and increased estrus interval were observed (p < 0.05) during their third and fourth parity than during their first and second parity. Ca-Mg complex supplementation improved (p < 0.05) the number of total piglets during the first and second parity as well as live-born piglets during the first to third parity, reduction (p < 0.05) in backfat thickness during the third and fourth parity, a higher (p < 0.05) initial and final number of suckling piglets as well as higher weaning weight compared with sows fed CON diet during the first, second, and third parity. The average daily gain (ADG) was higher (p < 0.05) in piglets born to CM1 and CM2 sows regardless of parity. The treatment diets fed to sows lowered (p < 0.05) the duration of first to last piglet birth and placenta expulsion time compared with CON sows. A significant interactive effect (p = 0.042) between parities and treatment diets was observed for the first to last piglet birth. Thus, Ca-Mg complex supplementation by partially replacing limestone in the basal diet enhanced sow performance, specifically during their third and fourth parity, thereby improving sow longevity.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary addition of caprylic acid(CA)-cyclodextrin (CD) complex on in vitro fermentation characteristics, total gas and methane production. Experiment was done with six treatment groups; 1) no CA-CD complex(control), 2) CA 20 mg(T1), 3) CD 830 mg(T2), 4) CA-CD complex 425 mg(T3), CA-CD complex 850mg(T4), CA-CD complex 1,700 mg(T5). Ruminal pH, ammonia and total VFA concentrations of T2, T3, T4 and T5 were lower(P<0.05) than those of control and T1 for the 12h incubation. The increase in molar percentage of propionate was observed in T4 and T5 compared with control and T2 for the 8h incubation(P<0.05), however, the ratio of acetate to propionate was unchanged in all treatments. Total gas of T1 was lower than that of control, but T2, T3, T4 and T5 were higher compared with control for 12h incubation(P<0.05). If the methane ratio (as %) to total gas for all treatments was compared, T3, T4 and T5(CA-CD supplemented groups) averaged 2.7% whereas control, T1 and T2 showed 3.4, 2.8 and 5.1%, respectively. Therefore, according to these results, it might be concluded that supplementation of CA-CD complex could reduce methane production without disrupting ruminal fermentation.

In an effort to investigate the role of calmodulin (CaM) as a modulating molecule in the signal transduction system in plant cells, we established methods for introduction of purified CaM into cultured soybean cells. CaM was purified from bovine testis, and was labelled with fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC). Suspension -cultured cells were healed with saponin (0.1 mg/mL) to permeabilize the plasma membrane and coincubated with FITC-CaM complex. Saponin pretreatment was found to increase the fluorescence in the suspension cultured cells, indicating that the FITC-CaM complex could be incorporated into the cytoplasm. Optimal conditions for introducing FITC-CaM complex into protoplasts by electroporation were established with various electric pulses. With increasing field strength, the fluorescence in the protoplase was increased, while the viability of the protoplase decreased. FITC-CaM complex was successfully introduced into the protoplasts by electroporation and the amount of FITC-CaM complex in the protoplase was estimated.

Minerals is required small amounts among various nutrients, but it has a significant impact on sow longevity and reproduction performance. This study was carried out to see the beneficial effects of marine-derived Ca-Mg complex on the reproductive performance of sows during four-parity periods. Seventy-two gilts ([Yorkshire × Landrace] × Duroc), with an average body weight of 181 kg, were randomly allocated to three groups; CON (basal diet), 0.3LC (CON - MgO - 0.3% limestone + 0.4% Ca-Mg complex), and 0.7LC (CON - MgO - 0.7% limestone + 0.4% Ca-Mg complex). During parity 3 and 4, the expression level of SCD gene was lower in the umbilical cord of piglets born to 0.3LC and 0.7LC sows compared with the CON sows. During parity 2, 3 and 4, SLC2A2 and FABP4 gene expressions were higher in the umbilical cord of piglets born to 0.7LC sows and the placenta of sows from 0.3LC groups, respectively. Ca-Mg complex increased (p < 0.05) Ca and Mg concentrations in sows and their piglets' serum as well as in colostrum regardless of parities. The serum vitamin D concentration was higher (p < 0.05) in their first parity, whereas serum prolactin and estrogen concentrations were higher (p < 0.05) during the fourth and third parity, respectively. The growth hormone concentrations were higher (p < 0.05) in the piglets born to sows during the first and second parity. The fat and immunoglobulin A (IgA) concentrations in colostrum were higher (p < 0.05) during the third and fourth parity, respectively. A reduction (p < 0.05) in salivary cortisol, epinephrine, and norepinephrine concentrations was observed in 0.3LC and 0.7LC sow groups compared with CON after farrowing regardless of parity, however before farrowing, a reduction in norepinephrine was observed. Before farrowing, the epinephrine and norepinephrine concentrations were higher (p < 0.05) during the first and second parity. After farrowing, the concentration of these hormones was higher during the second parity. Taken together, sows' parity and dietary Ca-Mg complex supplementation influenced serum metabolites, colostrum nutrients, stress hormones as well as the gene expressions related to lipid and glucose metabolism.
In many instances phosphorus is a limiting factor for eutrophication in streams, and lakes. Because wastewater treatment plant itself may be the main phosphorus source in a natural water body, removal of phosphorus in final effluent of wastewater treatment processes is required. Amongst various technologies for phosphorus removal in wastewater, adsorption technology was investigated using activated Ca-loess complex. Ca was added in loess to enhance adsorption capacity and intensity of phosphorus. Ca added loess was activated at a high temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ which turned out to be the optimum temperature. Activated Ca-loess complex below $400^{\circ}C$ had not enough strength to be applied as an activated Ca-loess pallet column in wastewater treatment process. Ca-loess complex which activated above $400^{\circ}C$ lost its adsorption capacity as the loess surface was glassified when the activation temperature reached above $400^{\circ}C$20. Even if adsorption capacity of activated Ca-loess was not very high due to the lack of abundant pores on its surface, adsorption intensity was still high because it was activated with added Ca in loess. Activated loess was made by pallets. The activated loess pallets were filled in a column, and were applied in wastewater treatment process. Using an activated Ca-loess pallet column, total phosphorus (T-P) was reduced from about 0.5 mg/l to lower than 0.1 mg/l in wastewater treatment, and ionic phosphorus (phosphate) was completely removed for the four months of pilot plant operation.
Spectrophotometric investigation of the interaction of Cefpodoxime proxetil (CFP) with $Ca^{2+},\;Mg^{2+},\;Mn^{2+},\;Fe^{3+},\;Co^{2+},\;Ni^{2+},\;Cu^{2+}$ and $Zn^{2+}$ in acidic medium showed the formation of 1:1 complex. The absorption spectrum of pure drug exhibits two prominent peaks at 270 and 345 nm. Its spectra scanned at several pH exhibited two isosbestic points (305 and 330 nm) indicating the presence of zwitterionic condition of drug in solution phase. The fluorescence emission spectra of CFP in presence of different concentrations of metal ions showed enhancement in fluorescence intensity which is ascribed to chelating enhancement fluorescence effect (CHEF). The stoichiometry of the complexes was determined by Job’s and Benesi-Hildebrand method. The stability of the complexes follow the order $Ca^{2+}\;<\;Mg^{2+}\;<\;Co^{2+}\;<\;Ni^{2+}\;<\;Zn^{2+}\;<\;Mn^{2+}\;<\;Cu^{2+}\;<\;Fe^{3+}$.

Ionophore, which contains 5-membered heterocyclic compound, was prepared. $Mg^{2+}$ was determined by salting-out technique using ionophore as a chelating reagent. After $Mg^{2+}$ was extracted into the acetonitrile layer as a Mg-$(Ionophore)_2$ complex from acetate buffered aqueous solution by salting-out extraction technique, absorbance of complex was recorded by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Optimum pH was between 2.5 and 5.0 for extraction and 1:2([$Mg^{2+}$]/[ionophore]) complex were formed. The range of detection was 0.24ppm~2.4ppm and $Ca^{2+}$ and EDTA were interfered in the determination of $Mg^{2+}$.

This study was undertaken to assess the effectiveness of magnesium-and boron-enriched complex fertilizer(CF, N-P$_2$O$_{5}$-K$_2$O-MgO-B$_2$O$_3$: 14-10-12-3-0.2) on the maintenance and management of hilly pasture. The effectiveness of CF was compared to those of some straight fertilizers (SF). This first part of the study was concerned with the soil chemical properties and the mutural balances of mineral nutrients in the soils of a mixed grass-clover and a pure grass swards. The results of a two-year field experiment are summarized as follows: 1. The Mg contents in the soils of the CF plots were higher than those of the SF plots. On the other hand, the Ca contents were higher in the SF plots than in the CF plots. The contents of Mg and Ca, and CEC, except K, in both the CF and SF plots were considerably below the optimum levels. At the normal application rate of NPK, the contents of available P$_2$O$_{5}$ were close to the optimum level in both the CF and SF plots. 2. The contents of exchangeable Mg were lower than the K contents in soils of all the plots. At the normal application rate of NPK, the Mg contents in the CF plots, but not in the SF plots, were close to the critical level for general crops (0.29me Mg/100g soil). The Mg contents in soils of all the plots, however, were considerably below the critical level for pasture forages and grazing cows (0.41me/100g). 3. Considering the desirable base saturation level of soil, the saturation levels of Ca and Mg were insufficient in both the CF and SF plots. The saturation levels of Mg in the CF plots, however, were relatively good compared with the SF plots. The equivalent ratios or Mg/K, Ca/Mg. Ca:Mg:K, and %Mg of CEC in soils were generally unfavorable in all the plots. These ratios of the CF plots, however, were relatively better than those of the SF plots. 4. Considering the contents of exchangeable Ca and Mg in soils, it is suggested that the application of slaked magnesium lime as a soil amelioration might be desirable for the fundamental increment of those contents at pasture establishment.

On the bases of the results from "Additive Coating of BaTiO$_3$ Powder using Sol Coating Method I", experimental condition was defined. Representative additives for BaTiO$_3$, that is to say, Mg, Ca and Mn were experimented. The sources of the metal ion were used by organometal complex. As added it, the stability of BaTiO$_3$ sol was evaluated. Mg and Ca were stable, however, The solubility limit of Mn-ATH was 0.05 mol ratio in Mn-ATH/sol. The solubility limit of Mg ion in BaTiO$_3$ was lower than 2 mol%. From the x Ray diffraction patterns, lattice parameters were different with temperature and additives, because the solubility of metal ion was varied in BaTiO$_3$. The dielectric constant of BaTiO$_3$ powders which coated with the 1.5 mol% Mg and calcined at 1200$^{\circ}C$ was increased with 20%.
Geochemical characteristics of groundwater in the different kinds of various lithology such as Haman formation, Panyaweol formation, Jusan andesitic formation and Palgongsan granite is distinguished by mineralogical and chemical compositions. The Concentration of the majority of solutes in groundwaters of Haman and Panyaweol formation is higher than in that of andesite and granite. Higher concentration of $HCO_3^{-}{\;}and{\;}SO_4^{2-}$ anions in the groundwater is peculiar. High concentrations of $Ca^{2+},{\;}Mg^{2+},{\;}HCO_3^{-}$ in the groundwaters of the sedimentary rocks result mainly from reaction of $CO^{2-}$ charged water with calcite and weathered feldspars. With the Piper diagram, the groundwaters of Haman formations are mainly plotted in $CaSO_4-CaCl_2$ type, whereas those of Panyaweol formations are plotted in the bothside of $Ca(HCO_3)_2{\;}and{\;}CaSO_4-CaCl_2$ type. Thses two different types of $Ca(HCO_3)_2{\;}and{\;}CaSO_4-CaCl_2$ groundwater were originated from dissolution of calcite($Ca(HCO_3)_2)$ and the oxidation of pyrite($CaSO_4-CaCl_2$), respectively. And it also is influenced by anthropogenic contamination. Three factors were extracted from the factor analysis for chemical data. Factor 1, controlled by $SO_4^{2-},{\;}Na^{+},{\;}Ca^{2+}$ and Fe, explains the dissolution of calcite, plagioclase and oxidation of pyrite. Factor 2, controlled by $HCO_3^{-}{\;}and{\;}Mg^{2+}$, mainly explains the dissolution of Mg-carbonates and dolomitization. Factor 3, controlled by $Cl^{-},{\;}K^{+}{\;}and{\;}NO_3^{-}$, is subject to the influence of artificial pollution including industrial waste water disposal. In this study area, some industrial complex which is close to Keumho river show the higher score of factor 3.
