Effects of Ca content on the refinement of primary Si of Aluminum B390 alloy have been examined. Ca was found to have an effect on the refinement of primary Si particle. Primary Si particle size has been refined as Ca content of the melts decreased and cooling rate increased. A control of Ca content by the addition of $CuCl_2$ to the melt was the most efficient in the refinement of primary Si particles. The minimum size of primary Si particles in this study was $15.0\;{\mu}m$ when a residual content of Ca element in the alloy was 5ppm, Primary Si particle size was refined as primary Si crystallization temperature increased, which was attributed to the decrease of Ca content in the melts.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality characteristics of rice nutritional bars prepared by adding Chinese artichoke (CA) powder to the rice powder. Methods: CA rice nutritional bars were prepared with various levels of CA powder (0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%) and designated as CA0 (without CA powder), CA5, CA10, CA15, and CA20, respectively. The total phenolic content, DPPH free radical scavenging activity, moisture content, pH, baking loss rate, leavening rate, volume, color, texture analysis, and sensory evaluations of rice nutritional bars were performed. Results: The total phenolic content and DPPH free radical scavenging activity exhibited an increase with increase in the substitute amount of CA powder. The results showed that the pH of rice nutritional bars decreased in all sample groups as the content of CA powder increased. The volume of the sample group with CA powder was higher than that of CA0. As the content of CA powder increased, lightness of the rice nutritional bars crumbs decreased while redness and yellowness increased. The texture analysis of rice nutritional bars showed that hardness, gumminess, and chewiness were the highest in CA0 while springiness and cohesiveness were the lowest in CA0. With respect to characteristic intensity rating, the taste, flavor, and softness of rice nutritional bars increased with increasing amounts of CA powder. In terms of consumer acceptability, CA15 and CA20 received the highest scores with respect to texture. Conclusion: Therefore, the results of this study indicate that replacing 15% of the rice powder with CA led to an efficient enhancement in the antioxidant and nutritional values of rice nutritional bars as well as the sensory quality.

This experiment was carried out to determine the effect of CaCl2 foliar spraying on the inhibition of blossom-end rot (BER) in hot summer paprika (Capsicum annum L. 'Special') cultivation. The effect of CaCl2 application was examined by the foliar application based on different fruit size, frequency, and spraying time. Also, it was investigated the occurrence and alleviation effect of BER symptom. Foliar application of CaCl2 (Ca 0.4%) was conducted by treating a fruit and leaf at 4 to 9 nodes above the crown flowers of each plant with 350 mL per week from June 3 to July 1. When the CaCl2 was sprayed at 7-day intervals for 4 weeks, the Ca content was the lowest in the fruit harvested with BER symptom in 11 to 20 mm of fruit width (FW). Four different regions in both BER symptom and normal fruits showed significant differences of Ca content, the highest was in pedicel, followed by stem-end, middle, and blossom-end. The Ca content increased sharply in normal paprika with 31-40 mm FW, in which Ca content was 78% higher than that of BER. Ca content in the middle and blossom-end of paprika over 21 mm in FW ranged 19.8% to 28.8% in normal fruits and 15.7% to 18.5% in BER, respectively. The incidence of BER increased rapidly by more than 60% in fruits with 31-40 mm FW. While there was no difference in fruit weight among the FW treatment, marketable yield rate was highest in the 21-30 mm FW, and the sugar content was high in the 11-30mm FW. When CaCl2 was applied three times for 7 days to a paprika having a 21- 30 mm FW, the cell wall-bound (CWB) Ca content was the highest and the rate of BER was lowest with 6.3%. After 10 days of CaCl2 foliar spray treatment, the CWB Ca content of paprika increased by 2.9 to 3.5 times compared to the control in all treatments. At 7 days after the CaCl2 foliar spraying once a day at varying spraying time, the leaf burn observed from 9:30 a.m. to 17:00 p.m. and the proline content increased as the spraying time was delayed. Therefore, the CaCl2 foliar spraying method for reducing of BER occurrence during paprika summer cultivation seems to be appropriate to spray 2-3 times at intervals of 3 days and before 8 a.m. at the time when the FW is 21-30 mm.
Industrial-scale Ca-fortified Dangmyon was manufactured with added casein phosphopeptides (CPP) to increase Ca adsorption in the intestine. Very low P content in eggshell Ca (egg Ca) and Dangmyon could make it possible to indirectly measure CPP content in Dangmyon. Partitions of the whole P present in Dangmyon were made into sweet potato, egg Ca, and CPP. The CPP content was obtained by multiplying CPP per P by the amount of P partitioned into CPP. It was found that 88.46% of CPP was obtained. However, when milk Ca, which was much higher in P, was added to fortify Dangmyon with CPP, it was found that the CPP content was either under- or over-estimated. Care must be taken when a much higher content of P as a Ca source is selected using this method. It was discovered that the added Ca and CPP were retained after cooking at boiling temperature; therefore, Dangmyon could be an excellent Ca and CPP carrier for humans.
The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of calcium levels(50, 100 and 200% of requirement) on metabolism of Ca, Na and K in Young and adult female rats for 3 weeks. There was no significant difference in feed intake, body weight gain and feed efficiency ratio among the groups of different Ca intake level. Serum Na level of high-Ca group was significantly lower than that of low-Ca or normal-Ca group in Young rats. There was no significant difference in liver Ca and K contents among the groups of different Ca intake levels. But, Na content in liver was decreased by the increase of dietary Ca intake. Ca content in kidney of high-Ca group in young rats and normal-Ca group in adult rats were significantly higher than those of other groups. Na content in kidney of low-Ca group was lower than those of normal-Ca and high-Ca groups. Urinary excretions of Na and K and fecal excretion of Ca were increased by the increase of dietary Ca intake. But, fecal excretions of Na and K were not affected by dietary Ca intake. According to this study, it was found that the high Ca consumption promotes excretions of fecal Ca and urinary Na and K in rats. The study verifies the need for more study on the interrelationship among Ca, Na and K metabolism and bood pressure.
To investigate the effect of dietary Ca levels on metabolic changes of Ca and skeleton in postmenopausal women, 10-month-old ovariectomized female rats were compared with 2 month old rats. The rats were fed either 0.2% or 1.2% Ca diets for 16 weeks. Food intake and weight gain as higher in rats fed high Ca diets and in ovariectomized rats. Apparent Ca absorption as higher, and Ca balance was lower in the low Ca groups. Vertebrae density was higher in old rats or those fed a high Ca diets. The old rats and ovariectomized rats showed decreased bone formation, increased bone resorption and kidney function deterioration resulting in increased urinary Ca excretion. Contradictory to the above observation, old rats and ovariectomized rats still showed higher bone mass and bone ash content. Therefore aging was not fully onging in 10-month-old rats. Bone weights, mineral contents, and mineral/wt ratio were lower in ovariectomized rats. Dietary Ca level did not affect urinary Ca excretion, urinary protein excretion, GFR, serum alkaline phosphatase, or urinary hydroxyporline excretion. This means that dietary Ca level did not influence kidney function or bone turnover. However Ca content and the ash content of femur, 4th vertebra, and scapula were increased in high Ca groups. Therefore, it is considered that decreased bone formation and accelerated bone resorption may account for the increased osteoporotic risk in women in menopause after middle age. However, Ca metabolism can be improved and bone components can be maintained if Ca is supplemented.

In this study, the effects of Ca content and processing variables on hot rolling properties of gravity cast AZ31-xCa alloys were evaluated systematically. The number and length of side crack were decreased with increasing preheating temperature and decreasing reduction ratio per pass and Ca content. The UTS and YS were not strongly dependent on the Ca content but the elongation decreased with increasing Ca content. The decrease of elongation in Ca containing alloys was least when the sheets were fabricated under preheating temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ and reduction ratio per pass of $15\%$. The sheets had the sound external features with little side cracks by homogenization of gravity cast AZ31-xCa alloys before hot rolling. In the cases of AZ31-xCa alloys containing under $1wt.\%$ Ca, the annealed sheets after homogenization and hot rolling had the similar tensile properties to those of AZ31 sheet.
The southern parts varieties have shown higher content of Oleic acid, Linoleic acid, Vitamin A, Alcaloid, Ca, P and Fe than northern parts Varieties. The $N.\;P_2O_5\;and\;K_2O content of narrow leaf were higher than wide leaf, on the other hand the Ca, Mg, Fe and $SiO_2$ content of wide leaf were higher than narrow leaf. The content of $N, \;P_2O_5, \;K_2O$ have shown higher in first yellow leaf date, the content of Ca has shown higher in first falling leaf date and the content of Mn and Cu content have shown higher in second new leaf date.
Soil environmental conditions can affect nutrient availability during growth stage of tree fruit. We investigated the cause of disorderd fruit by the influence of soil chemical properties in orchard soil, composition of mineral nutrient in leaves and fruit to occur physiological disorderd fruit at four locations (Ulsan, Gyeongju, Pyeongtaek, Ansung) compared to healthy. There were significantly different (P=0.05) in exchangeable Ca, K, Mg and total nitrogen content in orchard soil between physiological disordered fruit and healthy fruit. The exchangeable Ca content in orchard soil caused by physiological disordered fruit was statistically lower than that of healthy fruit. However, exchangeable K, Mg and total nitrogen contents were higher than that healthy (P=0.05). There was a significant difference (P=0.05) in Ca content between physiological disordered fruit and healthy. Ca content in fruit flesh of physiological disorderedfruit was statistically lower than that of healthy. The physiological disordered fruit was a higher ratio of Mg/Ca in fruit flesh and peel compared to healthy fruit and also the ratios of N/Ca and K/Ca in a leaf were higher. The negative correlation between Ca and K, and Ca and Mg was detected in the fruit flesh of physiological disordered fruit. Therefore, we concluded that insufficient Ca content in fruit may cause 'the physiological disorder' pomelo disease and high content of N, exchangeable K and Mg ion in the soil solution might be disturbs exchangeable Ca ion to be absorbed in fruit.
We have prepared 20 kinds of Mn-Zn ferrites as content of CaO(0.1 mol%), NiO(0.0~0.60 mol%) and CoO(0.0~0.8 mol%) adding by the coprecipitation method and studied the magnetic properties as content of CaO, NiO and CoO adding. Initial permeability decrease as the content of NiO and CoO adding increases, while Curie tem~ perature increase as the content of NiO and CoO adding increases. $(H_{c})$, $(B_{s})$ and $(W_{h})$ increase as content of NiO adding increases.
