A Study on the Characteristics of Thermit Welded Rail (테르밋 레일용접의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • CWR technology is generally believed to contribute to the increase of train speed and bring a variety of significant advantages, such as the decrease in track works, noise and vibration as well as the improvement of passenger comfort. In CWR technology, welding is considered to be one of the most important element technologies. Among the various welding methods, thermit welding is the most frequently used one for site welding since the operation is simple and the instruments are light as well as easy to deal with. However, it could cause interference with safety operation of trains since thermit welding points, are essentially made of castings and there are potentialities of defects according to the operation conditions, the environment of the site as well as the dexterity of the worker. This study tries to describe the characteristics of thermit welding, defect-causing factors and defect-detection methods at welding points.

  • In this study is presented a numerical method which assesses running safety of the freight car loading with loom CWR and structural safety of conventional railway track and fastening when passing over sharp curves and steel girder bridges. Optimal speed of the freight car is suggested based on the numerical reviews of the safety against derailment of the freight car and structural safety of track and fastening at vulnerable points of the conventional line.

  • 장대레일 궤도의 부동구간에서 발생되는 과도한 축력은 혹서기 궤도의 좌굴을 유발시켜 주행하는 열차의 안정성을 위협할 수 있다. 궤도 제원을 제외한 압축응력과 관련된 레일온도 인자, 궤도 강성과 관련된 도상저항력, 궤도의 초기결함인 궤도틀림과 같은 인자들은 기후조건, 궤도 운영조건, 유지관리조건 등에 의해 임의적으로 변동되는 불확실성이 높은 궤도 매개변수이다. 그러므로 장대레일 궤도의 좌굴은 불확실성이 높은 현상임을 알 수 있다. 따라서 궤도 매개변수들의 불확실성 및 임의성을 합리적으로 고려하기 위해서는 확률론적 접근방법의 적용이 필수적이라 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존 본 연구진에 의해 개발된 장대레일 궤도의 좌굴확률 평가시스템을 이용하여 장대레일 축력을 산정하기 위한 필수요소인 중립온도의 확률분포 특성에 따른 좌굴 안정성을 분석하였다.

  • In this paper, the main factors affect on the longitudinal rail force are discussed. Considering rail-bridge interaction, analytical and experimental evaluation of track behavior has been achieved. It is concluded that the horizontal ballast strength, the expansion length of the bridge span, and the stiffness of the bridge sub-structure are the significant parameters affecting the stability of the continuous welded rail (CWR) track. And, it is suggested that the ballast resistance forces should be maintained to ensure the track stability during the service.

Among the various welding methods, gas pressure welding is the most frequently used in vicinity of train line station since the operation is simple and the instruments are not heavy. The gas pressure welding is constructed exactly by good manual book on which simple and excellent welding methods is written and has the same performance as raw material. But this can be poor in the variety of the processing of rail end surface to be welded, the control of oxyacetylene flame and axil compressive force. Parametric Study of Thermal Stability on Continuous Welded Rail

  • The thermal buckling analysis of curved continuous welded rail (CWR) is studied for the lateral buckling prevention. This study includes a thermal buckling theory which accounts for both thermal and vehicle loading effects in the evaluation of track stability. The parameters include rail size, track lateral resistance, track longitudinal and torsional stiffnesses, initial misalignment amplitude and wavelength, track curvature, tie-ballast friction coefficient and truck center spacing. Parametric studies are performed to evaluate the effects of the individual parameters on the upper and lower critical buckling temperatures. The results show that the upper critical buckling temperature is highly affected by the uplift due to vehicle loads. This study provides a guideline for the improvement of stability for dynamic buckling in curved CWR track.

  • Recently, energy excessive consumption and environmental pollution are the social issued. The most efficient way to solve both energy excessive consumption and environmental pollution is existing combustion system improved. This study was part of the assume and commercial used existing waste heat recovery condensing boiler to low emission performance for exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) and thermal efficiency rise by applying the condensed water recirculation(CWR) conducted. The researchers applied the EGR and CWR develop a new concept for the condensed water recirculation waste heat recovery condensing boiler. Waste heat recovery condensing boiler applied to the condensed water recirculation thermal efficiency of the same conditions was increased by about 4.8~5.5% and pollution emission also decreased.

  • Recently, continuous welded rail (CWR) track has been adopted for railway track structure of great advantages of reducing maintenance costs, and of increasing life time of track components and the comfort of passengers. But, in this case, a temperature or mechanical load will result in high stress and the track breakage or buckling may occur Especially when the CWR is laying on the bridge structure, the relative displacement of these structure can be increased and this results in the instability of track. In this paper, the main factors affect on the longitudinal rail force are discussed and the computer program is developed for the analysis of rail force considering the interactions with sub-structure.

  • The demand of CWR is rapidly increasing because of the adaptation of concrete track, the need for rapid and comfortable ride, and the reduction of maintenance cost. Because of short applying period of the concrete track, there is not a case of CWR fracture in Korea caused by repeated load of the train, which makes it difficult to calculate replacement period of rail based on rail fatigue life using an actual field data. This study thus inspected the bending stress at rail bottom through analyzing the vehicle/track interaction, performed multiple regression analysis on the data, deducted the bending stress prediction equations by the speed and the surface irregularity. Finally, the fatigue life of CWR on the concrete track was predicted based on the prediction equations for bending stress at rail bottom.
