In this study, among chest CT examination conditions, the tube voltage was changed to 100 and 80 kVp and the reconstruction algorithm was changed to FBP, ASIR-V, and DLIR to compare and analyze changes in examination dose and image quality. As a result, when applying ASIR-V and DLIR at a tube voltage of 100 kVp, which is lower than the existing tube voltage, the dose is lowered while achieving image quality most similar to that when applying 120 kVp and FBP. especially, DLIR reconstructed images had excellent SNR and CNR at all tube voltages. In addition, the SSIM index was analyzed to be closest to 1, showing the highest similarity to the original image. Therefore, when performing repeated chest CT examinations, the application of DLIR can reduce the examination dose by about 29.7%, which is expected to help solve some of the biggest problems with CT examinations, namely radiation exposure due to the examination.
The purpose of this study is to derive a formula for calculating the effective energy of an X-ray beam generated by a CT simulator. Under 90, 120, and 140 kVp X-ray beams, the CT number calibration insert part of the AAPM CT performance phantom was scanned 5 times with a CT simulator. The CT numbers of polyethylene, polystyrene, water, nylon, polycarbonate, and acrylic were measured for each CT slice image. The average value of CT number measured under a single tube voltage and the linear attenuation coefficients corresponding to each photon energy calculated from the data of the National Institute of Standards and Technology were linearly fitted. Among the obtained correlation coefficients, the photon energy having the maximum value was determined as the effective energy. In this way, the effective energy of the X-ray beam generated at each tube voltage was determined. By linearly fitting the determined effective energies(y) and tube voltages(x), y=0.33026x+30.80263 as an effective energy calculation formula was induced.
The relationship between the dose calculated with a radiotherapy treatment planning system (RTPS) and CT number verses the relative electron density curve was investigated for various CT voltages and beam qualifies. We obtained the relationship between the CT numbers and electron densities of the tissue equivalent materials for various CT voltages and beam qualifies. At lower CT voltages, the higher density materials, like cortical bone, showed larger CT numbers and the soft tissues showed no variations. We peformed a phantom study in a RTPS, where a phantom consisted of lung and bone legions in water. We calculated the dose received behind the lung and bone regions for 6 MV photon beams, in which the regions below the lung, water and bone received higher doses in this listed order. The result was the same for 10 MV photon beams. For the clinical application, the doses were calculated for the lung and pelvis. No difference was observed when using different electron density conversion tables with various CT voltages from a same CT. A relative dose difference of 1.5% was obtained when the CT machine for the density conversion table was different from that for the CT image for planning.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of BMI application to Urography CT by applying different tube voltages in accordance with body mass index. Group A (n = 38) with body mass index of lower than 25 was examined with tube voltage of 100 kVp while Group B (n = 45) with a BMI of 25 and higher was examined with tube voltage of 120 kVp. C group (n = 37) with body mass index (BMI) of lower than 25 was examined with tube voltage of 120kVp. Although the difference in average dose between group A (100 kVp) and group C (120 kVp) with low body mass index (BMI) of lower than 25 was $214.8mGy{\cdot}cm$, there was no significant difference in qualitative evaluation and, compared with patient group with body mass index of 25 and higher, results obtained were rather good. Therefore, this study verified that the tube voltage of lower than 100 kVp does not have adverse effect on the quality of image for patients with body mass index (BMI) of lower than 25.
The dependence of CT scanning parameters on the CT number to physical density conversion from the CT image of CT and CBCT electron density phantom acquired by the CT scanner using in radiotherapy were analyzed by experiment. The CT numbers were independent of the tube current product exposure time, slice thickness, filter of image reconstruction, field of view and volume of phantom. But the CT numbers were dependent on the tube voltage and cross section of phantom. As a result, for physical density range above 0, the maximum CT number difference observed at the tube voltage between 90 and 120 kVp was 27%, and the maximum CT number difference observed between CT body and head electron density phantom was 15%.
Currently, the brain CT scan of the latest equipment lacks the study of parameter change and dose change and especially of noise, uniformity analysis and dose change. Therefore, this study attempted to study the phenomenon that occurs at this time by analyzing tube voltage, slice thickness, and pitch change in exposure parameters when using high specification CT. Experimental results show that uniformity is better when using high voltage, thick slice thickness selection, and minimum pitch. As a result of the combination, the most uniformity condition was 140 kVp, 10 mm and pitch 0.5. Noise was found to be improved regardless of pitch by increasing tube voltage and slice thickness. The radiation dose increased linearly with tube voltage and pitch. Therefore, the results of this study will serve as a reference for the use of High specification brain CT.
The purpose is reducing radiation dose while maintaining of image quality in liver dynamic CT(LDCT) scan, by protocols generally used and the tube voltage set at a low level protocol compared to the radiation dose and image quality. The target is body mass index, 18.5~24 patients out of 40 patients who underwent the ACT(abdominal CT). Group A(tube voltage : 120kVp, SAFIRE strength 1) of 20 people among 40 people, to apply the general abdominal CT scan protocol, group B(tube voltage : 100kVp, apply SAFIRE strength 0~5) was 20 people, set a lower tube voltage. Image quality evaluation was setting a region of interest(ROI) in the liver parenchyma, aorta, superior mesenteric artery (SMA), celiac trunk, visceral fat of arterial phase. In the ROI were compared by measuring the noise, signal to noise ratio(SNR), contrast to noise ratio(CNR), CT number. In addition, qualitative assessments to evaluate two people in the rich professional experience in Radiology by 0-3 points. We compared the total radiation dose, dose length product(DLP) and effective dose, volume computed tomography dose index(CTDIvol). The higher SAFIRE in the tube voltage 100 kVp, noise is reduced, CT number was increased. Thus, SNR and CNR was increased higher the SAFIRE step. Compared with the tube voltage 120kVp, noise, SNR, CNR was most similar in SAFIRE strength 2 and 3. Qualitative assessment SAFIRE strength 2 is the most common SAFIRE strength 2 the most common qualitative assessment, if the tube voltage of 100kVp when the quality of the images better evaluated was SAFIRE strength 1. Dose was reduced from 21.69%, in 100kVp than 120kVp. Purpose : The patients who visited this department for pulmonary disease and need CT scans for Follow-up to observe change of CT value, evaluation of image quality and decrease of radiation dose as change of kVp. Subjects and Methods : Subjects were the patients of 20 persons visited this department for pulmonary disease and Somatom Sensation 16(Semens, Enlarge, Germany) was used. Measurement of CT value as change of kVp was done by setting up ROI diameter of 1cm at the height of thyroid, aortic arch, right pulmonary artery in arterial phase image using 100 kVp, measuring 3 times, and recorded the average. CT value of phantom was measured by scanning phantoms which means contrast media diluted by normal saline by various ratio with tube voltage of 80 kVp, 100 kVp, 120 kVp, 140 kVp and recorded the average of 3 CT values of center of phantom image. In analysing radiation dose, CTDIVOL values of the latest arterial phase image of 120 kVp and as this research set that of 100 kVp were analyzed comparatively. 2 observers graded quality of chest images by 5 degrees (Unacceptable, Suboptimal, Adequate, Good, Excellent). Results : CT value of chest image increased at 100 kVp by 14.06%~27.26% in each ROI than 120 kVp. CT value of phantom increased as tube voltage lowered at various concentration of contrast media. CTDIVOL decreased at 100 kVp(5.00 mGy) by 36% than 120 kVp(7.80 mGy) in radiation dose analysis. here were 0 Unacceptable, 1 Suboptimal, 3 Adequate, 10 Good, 6 Excellent in totally 20 persons. Conclusion : Chest CT scanning with low kilo-voltage for patients who need CT scan repeatedly can bring images valuable for diagnose, and decrease radiation dose against patients.
Purpose : There is difference between PET and PET/CT method on their transmission image for attenuation correction. The CT image is used for attenuation correction on PET/CT and the parameters of CT may be affected on PET image. We performed the phantom study to evaluate whether the change of CT parameters(kilovolts peak and milliampere) affect standardized uptake value(SUV) on PET image. Material and Method: The data spectrum lung phantom containing diluted [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose ([18F]FDG) solution(1.909 mCi for phantom 1, $913\;{\mu}Ci$ for phantom 2) was used. The CT images of phantom were acquired with varying parameters (80, 100, 120, 140 for kVp, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 for mA). The PET images were reconstructed with the each CT images and SUVs were compared. Result : The SUVs of phantom 1 reconstructed with each 80, 100, 120 and 140 kVp showed $12.26{\pm}0.009$, $12.27{\pm}0.005$, $12.27{\pm}0.006$ and $12.27{\pm}0.009$, respectively. The SUVs of phantom 2 revealed $4.52{\pm}0.043$, $4.53{\pm}0.004$, $4.52{\pm}0.007$ and $4.52{\pm}0.005$ with elevation of voltage. There was no statistically significant difference of SUVs between groups based on various kVp. Also SUVs of phantom 1 and 2 showed no significant change with elevation of milliampere in CT parameter. Conclusion : The parameters of CT did not significantly affect SUV on PET image in our study. Therefore we can apply various parameters of CT appropriated for clinical conditions without significant change of SUV on PET CT image.
This study aims to evaluate CT (Computed Tomography) characteristics through the estimation of HU (Hounsfield Unit) and the corresponding variations using coefficient of variation values for various materials as a function of physical factor. HU values for various materials with varying densities as a function of physical factor were measured using MDCT (Siemens SOMATOM Sensation 4, Germany). The results showed that the HU values were decreased and increased as a function of kVp and material density, respectively. Especially, the HU values for bone and iodine at 140 kVp were 32% and 42% smaller than those at 80 kVp, respectively. In case of iodine, the HU values also decreased and increased as a function of kVp and concentration, respectively. While the HU values were fixed as a function of mAs. The decreased ratio of HU values between 80 keV and 140 keV was different at various concentration and maximum difference was shown as 1.73 at 3% concentration. These results indicated that it may be possible to separate composition of materials, e.g. iodine and bone, using single source CT. The results showed that dual energy techniques using single source CT can be applied to material separation and expand CT imaging techniques to other practical applications.
