  • In this paper, a new MDAS-DR antenna structure designed to efficiently shape a flat-topped radiation pattern is proposed. The antenna structure is composed of a stacked micro-strip patch exciter and a multi-layered disk array structure(MDAS) surrounded by a dielectric ring. The MDAS, which was supplied by a stacked microstrip patch exciter with radiating power, can form a flat-topped radiation pattern in a far field by a mutual interaction with the surrounding dielectric ring. Therefore, the design parameters of the dielectric ring and the MDAS structure are important design parameters for shaping a flat-topped radiation pattern. The proposed antenna used twelve multi-layered disk array elements and a Teflon material with a dielectric constant of 2.05. An antenna operated at 10 GHz$(9.6\sim10.4\;GHz)$ was designed in order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed antenna structure. The commercial simulator of CST Microwave $Studio^{TM}$, which was adapted to a 3-D antenna structure analysis, was used for the simulation. The antenna breadboard was also fabricated and its electrical performance was measured in an anechoic antenna chamber. The measured results of the antenna breadboard with a flat-topped radiation pattern were found to be in good agreement with the simulated one. The MDAS-DR antenna gain measured at 10 GHz was 11.18 dBi, and the MDAS-DR antenna was capable of shaping a good flat-topped radiation pattern with a beam-width of about $40^{\circ}$, at least within a fractional bandwidth of 8.0 %.

  • In this paper, a MIMO antenna is proposed for LTE/DCSl800/USPCSl900 handset applications. The proposed antenna is based on the IFA and its wide bandwidth is obtained by using a stagger tuning technique. To improve the isolation, a suspended line is connected to the shorting points in two antennas, and capacitors and inductors are added to the connected suspended line. Two identical antennas of which dimension is 2.8cc($40{\times}10{\times}7mm$) are mounted on the two end lines of the system ground plane($40{\times}60mm$). Analysis of the antenna performance and optimization is performed using CST Microwave Studio. The bandwidths are satisfied for LTE band class 13(746-787MHz), class 14(758-798MHz) and DCSl800/USPCSl900 band (1710-1990MHz). The isolations between two antennas are about -12dB for LTE band and -10dB for DCSl800/USPCSl900 band. And the radiation efficiency of each antenna is about for LTE band 33% and 45% for DCSl800/USPCSl900 band respectively.

  • The hull material of a high-speed ship may cause erosion damage from fluid impact. When physical erosion and electrochemical corrosion combine, erosion corrosion damage occurs. The aluminum ship is vulnerable to erosion corrosion because it can be operated at high speed. Thus, in this study, Al5052-O and Al6061-T6 aluminum alloys for the marine environment were selected as experimental materials. The erosion corrosion resistance of Al5052-O and Al6061-T6 aluminum alloys in seawater was investigated by an erosion test and potentiodynamic polarization test at the various flow rate (0 m/s, 5 m/s, 10 m/s, 15 m/s, 20 m/s). Erosion corrosion characteristics were evaluated by surface analysis, 3D analysis, SEM analysis, and the Tafel extrapolation method. The results of surface damage analysis after the erosion test showed that Al6061-T6 presented better erosion resistance than Al5052-O. The results of the potentiodynamic polarization test at the various flow rate, corrosion current density by Tafel extrapolation presented lower values of Al6061-T6 than Al5052-O. Al5052-O showed more surface damage than Al6061-T6 at all flow rates. Consequently, Al6061-T6 presented better erosion corrosion resistance than Al5052-O. The results of this study are valuable data for selecting hull material for an aluminum alloy vessel.

  • A cutoff probe is the novel diagnostic method to get the absolute plasma density with simple system and less assumption. However, high density of ion flux from plasma on probe tip can make the error of plasma density measurement because the dielectric material of probe tip can be damaged by ion flux. We proposed a shielded cutoff probe using the ceramic tube for protection from ion flux. The ceramic tube on probe tip can intercept the ion flux from plasma. The transmitted spectrum using the shielded cutoff probe is good agreement with E/M wave simulation result (CST Microwave Studio) and previous circuit simulation of cutoff probe [1]. From the analysis of the measured transmitted spectrum base on the circuit modeling, the parallel resonance frequency is same as the unshielded cutoff probe case. The obtained results of electron density is presented and discussed in wide range of experimental conditions, together with comparison result with previous cutoff method.

  • This work is concerned with an evaluation of dynamic boric acid corrosion (BAC) of low alloy steel for reactor pressure vessel of a pressurized water reactor (PWR). Mockup test method was newly established to investigate dynamic BAC of the low alloy steel under various conditions simulating a primary water leakage incident. The average corrosion rate was measured from the weight loss of the low alloy steel specimen, and the maximum corrosion rate was obtained by the surface profilometry after the mockup test. The corrosion rates increased with the rise of the leakage rate of the primary water containing boric acid, and the presence of oxygen dissolved in the primary water also accelerated the corrosion. From the specimen surface analysis, it was found that typical flow-accelerated corrosion and jet-impingement occurred under two-phase fluid of water droplet and steam environment. The maximum corrosion rate was determined as 5.97 mm/year at the leakage rate of 20 cc/min of the primary water with a saturated content of oxygen within the range of experimental condition of this work.

  • A number of components installed in the secondary system of nuclear power plants are exposed to aging mechanisms such as FAC (Flow-Accelerated Corrosion), Cavitation, Flashing, and LDIE (Liquid Droplet Impingement Erosion). Those aging mechanisms can lead to thinning of the components. In April 2013, one (1) inch small bore piping branched from the main steam line experienced leakage resulting from wall thinning in a 1,000 MWe Korean PWR nuclear power plant. During the normal operation, extracted steam from the main steam line goes to condenser through the small bore piping. The leak occurred in the downstream of an orifice. A control valve with vertical flow path was placed on in front of the orifice. This paper deals with UT (Ultrasonic Test) thickness data, SEM images, and numerical simulation results in order to analyze the extent of damage and the cause of leakage in the small bore piping. As a result, it is concluded that the main cause of the small bore pipe wall thinning is liquid droplet impingement erosion. Moreover, it is observed that the leak occurred at the reattachment point of the vortex flow in the downstream side of the orifice.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the corrosion behavior of aluminum (AA1100) in a mixed solution of 0 ~ 0.1 g/L Na2S + 0.3 ~ 3 g/L NaCl + 0 ~ 10 mL/L H2O2. Potentiodynamic polarization tests were performed. Effects of solution compositions on corrosion potential, corrosion rate, and pitting potential of aluminum were statistically analyzed with a regression model. Results suggested that localized corrosion susceptibility of aluminum was increased in the solution with increasing concentration of NaCl because the pitting potential was lowered linearly with increasing NaCl concentration. On the contrary, H2O2 mitigated the galvanic corrosion of aluminum by increasing the corrosion potential. It also mitigated localized corrosion by increasing the pitting potential of aluminum. Na2S did not exert a noticeable effect on the corrosion of aluminum. These effects of different chemical species at various concentrations were independent of each other. Synergy or offset effect was not observed.

  • Martensitic high-strength steels revealed superior mechanical properties of high tensile strength exceeding 1000 Mpa, and have been applied in a variety of industries. When the steels are exposed to corrosive environments, however, they are susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement (HE), resulting in catastrophic cracking failure. To improve resistance to HE, it is crucial to obtain significant insight into the exact physical nature associated with hydrogen diffusion behavior in the steel. For martensitic steels, tempering condition should be adjusted carefully to improve toughness. The tempering process involves microstructural modifications, that provide changes in hydrogen diffusion/trapping behavior in the steels. From this perspective, this study examined the relationship between tempering condition and hydrogen diffusion behavior in the steels. Results based on glycerin measurements and hydrogen permeation evaluations indicated that hydrogen diffusion/trapping behavior was strongly affected by the characteristics of precipitates, as well as by metallurgical defects such as dislocation. Tempering condition should be adjusted properly by considering required mechanical properties and resistance to HE.

  • The major purpose of the present study is to evaluate the performance of various galvanized (GI) or galvannealed (GA) mild steels and AHSS in stamping applications. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of selected stamping operations was conducted to estimate the critical pressure boundary conditions that exist in practice. Using this information, laboratory tribotests, e.g. Twist Compression (TCT), Deep Drawing (DDT) and Strip Drawing (SDT) Tests, were developed to evaluate the performance of selected lubricants and die materials/coatings in forming galvanized steels of interest. The sheet materials investigated included mild steels and AHSS (e.g. DP600 GI/GA, DP780 GI/GA, TRIP780 GA and DP980 GI/GA). Experimental results showed that galvanized material resulted in more galling, while galvannealed material showed more powdering and flaking. The surface roughness and chemical composition of galvanized sheet materials affected the severity of galling under the same testing conditions, i.e. lubricants and die materials/coatings. The results of this study helped to determine the critical interface pressure that initiates lubricant failure and galling in stamping selected galvanized sheet materials. Thus, to prevent or postpone the critical interface conditions, the results of this study can be used to select the optimum combination of galvanized sheet, die material, die coating and lubricant for forming structural automotive components.

  • The greatest purpose of chromate treatment is to improve anti-corrosion by stabilizing a metal surface. Because metal surface forms a compound by absorbing oxygen or water in the air by being generally unstable, it is necessary to improve anti-corrosion of the metal by forming the metal surface with a stable film. When considering the economical efficiency and requirements together because the film of the metal surface treated with chromate has good anti-corrosion and the stability also in the air by being compact and strong, Chromate treatment has been used most up to the electronics industry from the auto industry. However, these days, because hexavalent chromium is both a toxic agent to be able to cause cancers and deadly poisonous environmental pollutant, the strong legal controls on its use is being imposed all over the world. Because of this reason, a new anti-corrosion method is being required. Also, by users' various demands, the passivations that have recently been developed require various characteristics such as conductivity, chemical resistance, alkali cleaning resistance as well as anti-corrosion. We could confirm the results such as excellent anti-corrosion compared to chromate, conductivity, chemical resistance and detergent resistance as the result of analysis of various characteristics of the galvannealed sheet steels coated with Cr-Free solution developed in this research.
