A Distributed Medium Access Control Protocol Based on Adaptive Collision Detection in Dense Wireless Local Area Networks (밀집 무선랜 환경에서 적응적 충돌 검출 기반의 분산 매체접속제어 프로토콜)

  • Recently dense wireless local area networks (WLANs) emerge as the number of WLAN cells and stations increases. In such dense WLAN environment, this paper proposes a new distributed medium access control (MAC) protocol. The proposed MAC protocol extends the previous CSMA with collision resolution (CSMA/CR) that uses a single collision detection (CD) phase and employs multiple CD phases to resolve more collisions. It checks the collision detection in each CD phase and stops the CD phase if consecutive non-detected CD phases occur more than the threshold. Therefore, the proposed protocol can control the number of CD phases adaptively according to the number of accessing stations and increase the probability of collision resolution while decreasing the packet overhead. The simulation results show that the proposed adaptive CSMA/CR protocol employs a variable number of CD phases according to the number of stations and achieves a greater throughput than the previous CSMA/CR protocol using the fixed number of CD phases.

  • This paper proposes CSMA/CD-TDM/SD(carrier sense multiple access/collision detection-time division multiplexing/silence detection) control scheme in bus type integrated data/voice local area networks. Simulation results show that this control scheme satisfies the lossless real-time constraints of the voice traffic and improves the data throughput-delay characteristics as compared to those of the CSMA/CD/MPD and the CSMA/CD-TDMA.

  • Media access control(MAC) protocol that is used between aircraft and ground station now is non-persistent CSMA protocol, but this protocol hs defects to apply in the wireless mobile radio communication environment. In this paper, to solve this Problems, the modified ICMA/CD protocol which ban be applied in the wireless environment was proposed and analyzed. In the modified ICMA/CD protocol, instead of usig special control channel, control signal was inserted into the uplink message. After the analysis, simulation was performed to approve the analysis resutls. As a results, modified ICMA/CD protocol can solve the hidden termined effect of CSMA protocol and packet detection delay time problem of ICMA/CD protocol and acquired the same channel throughput as CSMA/CD protocol. This results shows the modified ICMA/CD protocol can be used in the aeronauical telecommunication.

  • In this paper we analyzed, using Markov modeling, the performance of CSMA/CD over the wireless channel which is characterized by near-far effect, shadowing and Rayleigh fading. The analysis shows that throughput of CSMA/CD is degraded by channel error. However, if capture effect which arises from the randomness of power level of received signal due to the fading phenomena of electromagnetic waves is taken into consideration, the system performance is much improved and the system stability is also made better.

  • 최근 인터넷의 급격한 성장의 일면에는 CSMA/CD 프로토콜에 기반을 둔 이더넷 네트워크 망의 중추적인 서비스 제공에 있다고 볼 수 있다. 사용자의 기하급수적 증가와 더불어 인터넷망의 복잡성은 이더넷 인터넷망에서의 각 호스트들간의 데이터 층들을 급속하게 야기시켜, 전체적인 서비스 지연을 초래하는 경우가 발생되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 전송예약을 통해 기존 CSMA/CD 프로토콜에서의 프레임 충돌횟수를 줄이고 전송효율 또한 높이는 방안을 제시한다.

Delay Analysis of Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Resolution

  • To improve the efficiency of carrier sense multiple access (CSMA)-based medium access control (MAC) protocols, CSMA with collision resolution (CSMA/CR) has been proposed. In the CSMA/CR, a transmitting station can detect a collision by employing additional sensing after the start of a data transmission and then resolve the next collision that might occur by broadcasting a jam signal during a collision detection (CD) period. In this paper, we analyze the delay of a CSMA/CR based on a generic p- persistent CSMA model and obtain the minimum achievable delay of the CSMA/CR by finding the optimal length of the CD period according to the number of contending stations. Through this delay analysis, we also investigate the throughput-delay characteristics of the CSMA/CR protocol according to various parameters. Analysis and simulation results show that the CSMA/CR has a considerably lower delay and its throughput-delay characteristic is significantly improved than the conventional CSMA/CA and wireless CSMA/CD protocols.

  • In this paper, we suggested a RS485 based CSMA/CD protocol that is available in low speed multi-node networks such as industry control communication network and home network etc. The suggested protocol was compared to widely used Master-Slave protocol, Modbus. We modeled realistic control network and showed that the average delay and throughput performance were significantly improved in the different transmission rates.

  • CSMA/CD 는 경쟁적 매체접근 제어방식으로 충돌현상은 필연적이다. 접속을 시도하는 스테이션의 수가 많아지면 충돌횟수도 증가하고 채널의 이용도가 저하된다. 본 논문에서는 CDMA/CD 방식에 충돌이 발생하였을 때 의도적으로 충돌현상을 지연하고 이를 활용하여 채널을 예약할 수 있는 기능을 포함하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 예약된 채널에는 예약에 성공한 스테이션만 경쟁에 참여하게 되고 채널을 확보찬 수 있다. 제안된 알고리즘은 실험결과 충돌이 반복적으로 발생하는 현상을 급격히 감소시키며 전체적으로 채널의 이용도가 향상되는 것을 확인하였다.

  • In this paper, we proposed an efficient medium access protocol to share single transmission medium for several stations. There are two well known types of medium access protocols: collision allowance and collision avoidance, and each of them is adopted to their own suitable network with advantage. Our proposed protocol have channel reservation facility based on collision allow medium access protocol, CSMA/CD. In a collision, the stations delay collision with generating pseudo collision signal to reserve channel. Then, the collision terminates and the stations, which reserve channel successfully, participate the next competition with higher medium access probability. We show that the proposed protocol reduced collision times and improved utilization of the channel.

  • This study is on the development of an engine monitoring system which can be applied not only for mid-size vessels but also small vessels less than 20 gross tonnage. Monitoring system consists of a set LMU(Local Monitoring Unit) that collect data from local machinery, a host computer that controls LMU and a stable communication system which adopts CSMA/CD protocol. The LMU is composed of 80C196KC microprocessor, which consists of CPU, digital input/output, analog input/output and communication module. Communication system between the host computer(compatible IBM PC) and LMUs is the multidrop configuration using RS-485 method and confirmed high performance communication by the aid of polling method as well as carrier sense multiple access with collision detection(CSMA/CD) protocol.
