  • The purpose of this paper is to propose a CSMA/CA protocol to reduce the delay time and increase the throughput of the original CSMA/CA protocol. In underwater environments, the efficiency of the protocol is reduced due to the increase of the propagation delay time, which results in increase of the collision possibility causing lowering of the transmission efficiency Considering this propagation delay, this paper propose to insert the STANDBY frame in a CTS packet in order to avoid the TimeOut status of the CSMA/CA protocol. According to the simulated test results, proposed protocol is increased about 20% throughput than original CSMA/CA protocol. And the more value of propagation per transmission delay 'a' is low, the more throughput of protocol is better.

  • In this paper, the performance of a Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol using stop-and-Wait automatic Repeat reQuest, which is adapted as a draft standard in IEEE 802.11, is analyzed using a mathematical method based on a renewal theory, and simulation checks are performed, which confirm the goodness of our anlysis. In order to anlayze of CSMA/CA, we model that network is composed of finite populationand channel is slotted. And, we consider the CSMA/CA protocol as a hybrid protocol of 1-persistent CSMA and p-persistent CSMA protocol. As resuls of analysis, we have found that the throughput is degraded and packet delay is increased as the number of stations, Acknowledgement (ACK) length and Distributed coordination function Inter Frame Space (DIFS) length are increased.

  • The performance of Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol adopted as a draft standard of IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN, is analyzed by using mathematical method based on renewal theory. We introdude three kinds of CSMA/CA protocols basic, stop-and-wait and 4-Way handshake CSMA/CA with their mathematical analysis. First, a network of finite population is considered and then expand to infinite population. We model the CSMA/CA protocol as a hybrid protocol of 1-persistent CSMA and p-persistent CSMA protocol, and verify analaytical results by computer simulation. We have found that 4-Way Handshake CAMA/CA shows better performance than those of other two types of CSMA/CA in case of high traffic load.

  • In this paper, IEEE 802.11 MAC layer protocol is modeled by p-persistent CSMA method. And We introduce performance analysis model based on Basic CSMA/CA protocol, CTS/RTS protocol and hidden node effect reflected Basic CSMA/CA Protocol, Which is mathematically assayed by renewal theory. In this throughput, the result shown that Basic CSMA/CA protocol is profitable when the number of active node is smaller, or the length of packet is shorter, and CTS/RTS protocol is lucrative when the number of active node is larger, or the length of packet is longer. Also the result shown that hidden node less affected when the active node has small one, rather than when the active node has larger one.

  • In this paper, we propose the enhanced CSMA/CA MAC protocol fir mobile multi-hop wireless Ad-hoc networks. In the conventional wireless Ad-hoc network such as WLAN using CSMA/CA MAC protocol, communications between terminals that fn connected within multi-hop node may degrade the transmission efficiencies as increasing the multi-hop nodes because of RTS-CTS-DATA-ACK message exchange between terminals. In this raper, we apply the ACK/RTS control message into multi-hop transmission between terminals for wireless ad-hoc networks and improve the data traffic transmission efficiencies compared with conventional CSMA/CA MAC protocol used in WLAN.

  • Because of MANET's dynamic characteristic, the hidden node problem can happen. Thus it must use with distributed channel access. In Ad hoc networks, carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance(CSMA/CA) is one of the most widely used medium access control(MAC) schemes for asynchronous data traffics. However, CSMA/CA could not guarantee the quality of multimedia traffics. CSMA is a contention based protocol. Therefor once a node gets a channel, it can momopolze. Thus the fairness problem with channel starvation will happen. We will propose a new MAC protocol to guarantee QoS for multimedia data in ad hoc networks.

  • Tag collection is one of the major concerns in radio frequency identification(RFID) system. All tags in RFID reader's transmission range send response message back to the reader in response to collection request message on the given rf channel. When multiple tags respond simultaneously, tag-collision may occur. Tag-collision problem is one of the most important issues in active RFID performance. To mitigate this problem, frame slotted ALOHA(FSA) anti-collision protocol is widely used in active RFID system. Several studies show that the maximum system efficiency of FSA anti-collision protocol is 36.8%. In this paper, we propose an efficient slotted CSMA/CA protocol to improve tag collection performance. We compare our protocol to the FSA anti-collision protocol. For the experiment, an 433MHz active RFID system is implemented, which is composed of an RFID reader and multiple tags. We evaluated the tag collection performance using one RFID reader and 40 tags in the real test bed. The experimental result shows that proposed protocol improves the tag collection time, round and collision probability by 18%, 37.4% and 77.8%, respectively.

  • In this paper, the performance of data communication function of military radio equipment P-999K is analyzed based on the standard CSMA/CA protocol which is DFWMAC standard protocol done by IEEE802.11 work group. Basic three standard protocols, i.e. Basic CSMA/CA, Stop & Wait ARQ and 4-Way Handshake CSMA/CA protocols are analyzed and compared with each other under the hidden terminal environment. The computer simulation is also done by using SIMSCRIPT II.5 which is popular software tool for an independent processing. The results show that p-persistent(with p=0.3) CSMA scheme is superior to non-persistent CSMA scheme with non-hidden terminal condition, but the performances of both schemes are almost same with hidden terminal situation. And the results of computer simulations are also showed that Basic CSMA/CA protocol is superior to the other protocols when the ratio of hidden terminals is below 10 % of total user population, however, with the above 20% hidden terminals environment and the higher offered traffic conditions the 4-Way Handshake CSMA/CA protocol shows the most superior performance.

  • In this paper, an algorithm that enhances the conventional directional CSMA/CA protocol in IEEE 802.15.3c is proposed under saturation environments. For the algorithm, a Markov chain model is presented and analyzed in no-ACK mode. The effects of directional antennas and the features of IEEE 802.15.3c MAC are considered in the model. The optimal sizes of contention window are derived from the numerical results. The numerical results show that the proposed directional CSMA/CA algorithm outperforms conventional one. The overall analysis is verified by simulation. The obtained results provide the criterion for selecting the optimal parameters and developing a MAC protocol that enhances the performance of mmWave WPANs.

  • The IEEE 802.11 wireless standard uses the carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) as its MAC protocol (during the distributed coordination function period). This protocol is an adaptation of the CSMA/CD of the wired networks. CSMA/CA mechanism cannot guarantee quality of service (QoS) required by the application because orits random access method. In this study, we propose a new MAC protocol that considers different types of traffic (e.g., voice and data) and for each traffic type different priority levels are assigned. To improve the QoS of IEEE 802.11 MAC protocols over a multi-channel CSMA/CA, we have developed a new admission policy for both voice and data traffics. This protocol can be performed in direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) or frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS). For voice traffic we reserve a channel, while for data traffic the access is random using a CSMA/CA mechanism, and in this case a selective reject and push-out mechanism is added to meet the quality of service required by data traffic. To study the performance of the proposed protocol and to show the benefits of our design, a mathematical model is built based on Markov chains. The system could be represented by a Markov chain which is difficult to solve as the state-space is too large. This is due to the resource management and user mobility. Thus, we propose to build an aggregated Markov chain with a smaller state-space that allows performance measures to be computed easily. We have used stochastic comparisons of Markov chains to prove that the proposed access protocol (with selective reject and push-out mechanisms) gives less loss rates of high priority connections (data and voices) than the traditional one (without admission policy and selective reject and push-out mechanisms). We give numerical results to confirm mathematical proofs.
